Hi!

Does doing Match increase a student's chances of acceptance? Or is it better to do non-match to have more liberty of choice?

Overall, what's the recommended strategy?

Thanks for input! Hope this thread will help others as well!

For GPRs, I applied to mostly match programs but two non match programs which interviewed early. I ended up taking the first position I received and did not attend any further interviews. Of course, if I'd hated the program I would have declined the offer. But since it had enough pros it was hard to say no and risk matching a program I felt much more negatively about in an attempt to find somewhere I felt even more positively about.

If you accept a non-match program you will have to drop from the match. That is part of the contract regulations.
