If that's the case are you sure you even need this program? Why not just pay for the mcat prep and reapply since your GPA is solid for both undergrad and grad? I'm sure with those scores if you got a 504 you could get into meharry without the program

I strugged wit the MCAT, I made a 409 the last time. So I am just looking at all avenues. But I only had MCAT once, so I think I will do a lot better. taking it next week

Everybody I’ve talked to said I needed to basically “reinvent” myself via grad school. Let’s just say undergrad was bad for me lol. My MCAT is a 495. I feel I can crack 505 and get a 3.8+ in grad school.

I just need someone to take a chance on me is all. I know I can kill it.

Same for me with the undergrad situation.
 
Similar. Alot of y'all are in good situations. Better than me lol. So don't stress. My highest MCAT was 494.

Same. I'm reinventing, too. Trash grades undergrad, huge improvement in my diy post bac. MCAT was not good but I took it under horrible conditions. But i could definitely crack a 505. So i just need someone to take a chance on me

My situation isn’t good if I haven’t been accepted anywhere and I’m old as hell.

Lol I feel like your situation is good if you only have MCAT to worry about. Metrics are always attainable.

As far as age. You know it don't crack so you'll be good LoL

In the same boat. I feel with the right opportunity i can get the MCAT score and gpa needed for medical school.

You and me both ! It’s been a JOURNEY and hurdle after hurdle after hurdle. My GPA isn’t the problem at all. My MCAT is my main whole in my app. I’ve done prep programs and tutors etc. Practice tests go well and test day doesn’t turn out as good as I felt...That test just isn’t my friend !!! Smh. So I’m an older non traditional student as well who just wants to start medical school already. lol. It’s definitely frustrating when you have students who want to excel in the field and give back etc and its just thing after thing.

Y’all hang in there ! The medical field, URMs and admissions committees needs ppl like us to make the change we wanna see !!

Keep the faith ! !

I definitely would have an interesting and inspiring story if I actually made it to med school. Old as in I’d be a 40+ yr old resident.

Oh OK I get that but you have to retake the mcat anyway. But I guess this is a guaranteed providing that the mcat is reasonable and you get that score (I think it's still that way)
 
OK so for everyone the mcat seems to be the biggest hurdle. Maybe we all need to look into some test anxiety strategy/stuff. I mean regardless if the GPA is solid in this program or not the mcat still needs to be met

Kinda depends on where you apply and your app. I have friends right now that got into SLU and Wright State with 499 MCAT. And they are both crushing med school. So I would say strategically pick the schools that fit you but always have accepted students in your range.

I feel like a large part of ppl who don't get in but have competitive stats is b/c they apply to schools that they aren't competitive to. It happens lol
 
I just called and they told me this week as well! And for the reqs closer to orientation !!
 
So I just called on my lunch break and they said they’re finalizing decisions and that they will be emailed this week.
 
After reading yalls comment , all I have to say LOL . This is why I love PWI schools

Lol ehh somewhat true. But idk about you but this is the first school that is a Hbcu that has gone back on their word several times. To me if you can’t even communicate and honor your own words, everything else that person has to offer is gibberish / ass to me.

The way I describe my PWI experience is I met some great people and made tons of memories but I felt like a number in my classes. I also didn't connect with my professors the way I did at Howard and I felt like my HU prof looked out big time because we were all POC. But I'm glad I got to experience both

Lemme tell you. The undergraduate library at HU closed years ago and was supposed been renovated. It's still closed. It probably will be open in 25 years lol Not the same thing nor is there any good excuse for it but hey. Once we're in, get through the program and do well we'll look back and just laugh and be proud of how far we came.

Lol Howard is so close to me as well but I have no love for them since they rejected me flat out ! Meharry at least told me about this program so I’m thankful!

I can respect that but I don’t feel the same. Meharry makes a huge impact on the community and actually walks according to their mission statement unlike a lot of schools I know. It’s a historic school that has made a way for black people to become doctors where few others have and given even those on the lower spectrum of the academic scale a chance to compete for a spot in medical school where other schools write them off. I have a lot of respect for meharry despite the aggravation of this process.

Very true !! I’ve always respected their impact on their community as well ! And the fact that they also gave those students a chance that didn’t have the numbers but have the heart and passion. So I really hope they continue to hold onto and now allow quantity and class size and metrics to overtake their quality and legacy and reputation

It happens. I don't think Howard has a program like this. I mean I didn't do a secondary because because my 493 meat was way below their minimum. It's why I'm going to take 6 months to study and reapply in June 2020
