Happy Labor Day! I guess it’s not just the SDN crowd doing well….

And all the replies are from actual podiatrists who are saying this data is fake. Are all those disgruntled podiatrists posting behind their real name on SDN too?

Maybe the hospital employed jobs. The rare few that hundreds of new grads apply to for single spots. This is a poor indicator of the health of the profession as a whole.
Private practice where most others end up are not seeing those increases lol..

Didn’t see where they got the data, but there are a slowly increasing number of employed positions where a sub $200k per year goes to a $300k salaried hospital or large MSG employee. The large % increase is easy to explain in a profession where the floor was so low to begin with and you have people reporting their shift from associate compensation to hospital employed (for example). For me to get a 22% raise it would take going from $60 per wRVU to $73. Which obviously isn’t happening. This is equivalent to garbage med student research slop.

I’ve seen PE employment contracts where they subtract billing fees and malpractice insurance from a collections percentage for their associates. The field is so saturated employers are shifting cost of doing business onto their workers because they can.
Cute of you to come post a screenshot with zero context behind it.

WTF. Isn't the whole point of it being a percentage of collections is that the percentage that has been removed from the total reimbursement is covering the overhead.....as in is already covering the billing fees and malpractice insurance.
Also, the salaries probably rose because with all these private equity takeovers, the base salaries went from $80 to $100K up to $120 to $150K. None of that's really a win, lol.
You should NOT be covering overhead if you aren't a partner/owner my friend. If they are making you cover overhead as an associate, they probably never had the money to employ you to begin with.WTF. That's what I'm saying.
The previous poster said private equity companies are making their associates cover billing and Malpractice costs. Which should already come out of the 60 to 65% that they don't get from their collections.
My employers are predatory, but not THAT predatory.
You all are overcomplicating your arguments. You are employees. You aren't owners. You don't truly share in the profits. You don't truly make the financial decisions for the business. You deserve an uncomplicated compensation structure that connects your collections to your paycheck. Imagine if I told my receptionists that their hourly wages were dependent on the success of my business. It would be wrong, just like it would be wrong to tell you that I had to buy a bunch of new podiatry chairs so I can't pay you your collections.
Boba, my bad, here’s your context. Have to assume you’ve heard of “the white coat investor”…maybe not.😂😂

White coat investor is for actual doctors not podiatry.
Aka the fields that can pay off their 400k debt easily after graduation where pslf begs them to work for them but they have better options out there and 100+ people aren’t applying for the only good jobs.
We are the only field that falls over each other applying for VA/IHS jobs for the sake of grinding out loan forgiveness or just basic benefits which is crazy considering any MD/DO field is literally begging for applicants for those spots and they sit unfilled. You should know this.

Come on, man.
You and everyone else here knows that we got lumped into the "facing genuine physician shortages" because those OTHER fields they have in the parantheses actually have shortages. We have nothing to do with them, nor are we facing any shortages.
The 22.7% salary gain is just because the salary was already on the floor as it was, and now it's a little bit above the floor since PE firms aren't offering 90-110K like their previous owners did. So yes, the average has gone up even if we look at BLS data from 2016 vs 2026; I'll concur on that.
But the physician shortage thing has nothing to do with us. It's just easier for them to type it all in one paragraph when making that post.
He interviewed one of his top Pi Delta students who went to one of the top residencies in the country, and that person still ended up taking a $150k PE job in one of the highest COL areas in the Bay Area.I'm glad you think it's hilarious that your students end up signing awful contracts. You seem like you really have their best interests at heart /s.
Even that new grad admitted that every decent job gets 100–150+ applicants within a week.
He knows. We know. New grads looking for jobs know.
Pre-pods don’t know. Pod students usually don’t know. Some naive pod residents still think they’re going to graduate and make $446k because that’s what they saw in an ACFAS survey.
Meanwhile, he has his own incentive to fill his seats and sell low MCAT or GPA students the dream of becoming a “surgeon.”
Friendly reminder
Yep, the same 5-10 of you every time. Can’t post anything positive about our profession. 🤷♂️.
Here's your periodic reminder from Dr Smasher: pre-health students aren't stupid. They can figure out bad career moves from good ones without our help. And I don't believe any of this discussion makes a difference.

Hi Dean, I was just wondering how the unfilled seats affect your bonus structure?

If 5-10 people are the reason for APMA recruitment podcast is failing to get new students, I think APMA should re-invest its money elsewhere before the FTC comes knocking like they did with Law Schools, Devry and other schools. Arizona posting those on their website is wild. Temple, NYCPM and Scholl were the most upfront and honest. All said around 200-275k, but can get more.Yep, the same 5-10 of you every time. NYCPM tells their students they can make around $200K–$275K!?If 5-10 people are the reason for APMA recruitment podcast is failing to get new students, I think APMA should re-invest its money elsewhere before the FTC comes knocking like they did with Law Schools, Devry and other schools. Have they seen what NYCPM itself is paying a board certified podiatric foot and ankle surgeon to become an assistant professor?
$136K.
To live in New York City.
Hmm the math is not adding up.

Thanks for the highly interesting and generous offer, but I will have to pass on this opportunity.

Podiatry can be lucrative. A lot of podiatrists are happy. We only have one life. If you aren’t happy you should do something else.
But in general it’s not easy or guaranteed and it will be a grind and medicine in general is really becoming less and less worth it…….. I think the biggest gripe posters have here are fake salary numbers and too much optimism from the organizations when a lot of our profession don’t see those numbers or have good situations
Let’s get back to the memes

Yes, for real....Let’s get back to the memes
Clear attempt by dingle to derail the thread (that gets 10x more views than promo/propagada thread).
Sad part is so many ppl fell for it... next time, report it as being in wrong thread, and/or just ignore it.
It worked hook line and sinker... and that was his point all along. Too bad.
This is one of the best threads on SDN... and needs to be preserved as such.
Then stop being so easily baited.

seriously, we may be giving SDN too much credit
All because I posted that podiatrists are successful! Great work all!
If one podiatrist suffers....we all suffer regardless of the our individual success. Right comrade? Podiatrists UNITE!All because I posted that podiatrists are successful! Great work all!
J/k we would all pull up the ladder/cut the rope/insert saying if it would benefit us.....because of..... OVERSATURATION
Job openings don’t reflect the statistics that are touted by schools and such for the income in our profession. All because I posted that podiatrists are successful! Great work all!
Check out PM News. Mostly job offers for 100-120k in super high cost of living areas.
There is too much word of mouth/connections/create your own job type of activity for decent jobs for me to say podiatry has good pay across the board.
Until job listings are flat out saying 200k+ and those job listings are everywhere I’m going to be a curmudgeon. No other MD/DO speciality has this issue.
Im really not trying to be a jerk. I like your posts and your sense of humor and the fact you’re the only Dean out there that interacts with the public and is willing to talk about stuff and banter. It’s moreso just the fact job listings don’t reflect “statistics” for us. The VA for example will post job listings because they’re required to, even though they’re already internally filled. There’s a lot of bs out there.

Roger Marshall Sued 700 Patients for Debts; 81 Were Arrested. Now He’s a Senator.
Patients sued by Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas were routinely charged 18 percent interest, The Times found. Some had bank accounts garnished.
This story sent me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I don't think people should be arrested for not paying their medical bills, but when they interviewed the guy who said he was "going to pay" all I could think was ...liar. 😉

To be clear - I meant for this to be comedically ridiculous. I was going to have AI make a promotional poster for it and call it NY Nail Jail, but I got interrupted.
