Anybody else applied to Yale and University of Illinois at Chicago and heard back from them? Those are the only two schools that haven't even acknowledged that I applied! Should I email them about it?
Awesome, thanks for the info! It's a great place to work, I love it here, but I'm not really passionate about the research I'm doing. The division I'm in isn't really the best fit for my interests. I would love to work for CDC's NCEZID (National Center for Emerging Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases) someday as a veterinary epidemiologist. That's why I decided to apply to infectious disease/EPI programs.
I recommend applying to the Pathways summer internships on USAJOBS.GOV. That's how I got the internship which turned into a fellowship. There are CDC locations all over the country, too.
Some schools release decisions as early as November. The ones that sometimes start giving out early decisions are Yale, UMichigan, and Tulane. I'm sure there are others but these are the ones I've seen giving out early decisions this year and in past years. Also heard from them yesterday.
Does anyone have a list of schools that release admissions in December?
I wish I would have applied to those schools just so I could hear something sooner, ha!Some schools release decisions as early as November. Is anyone applying to Harvard for the SM in epi? I keep getting their e-mails, but I decided not to apply because I asked them what backgrounds are successful and they said they are looking for strong science backgrounds. But I keep getting the stock e-mails encouraging me to apply by the deadline and I'm reconsidering... Does anyone have additional perspective on what types of students get into that program?
I applied to the Harvard SM in Epi a few weeks ago but I did not know that they were looking for strong science backgrounds... I think you have great experience as well as an awesome GPA and GRE so I wouldn't let what they said deter you!! There's always exceptions 🙂 Good luck!!!!

I have my B.S. and was planning to post-bacc this year but then I got the job offer so I took it. You do have to be a current student to get the Pathways internship, at least half-time and working towards a degree. You could do this during your graduate degree program in the summers (you don't have to be enrolled in classes). We had several students do that this past summer.
I'm planning on going for my PhD in EPI because I'm more interested in research, but I have thought about doing a DVM. I just don't think I would get accepted for a DVM program because I have zero clinical experience with animals and it's also super competitive. I might apply after getting my MPH/MSPH if I feel like my research can't progress into a PhD.

You're better off than me. I applied in mid-November and haven't even received a confirmation email from them. I was a biological anthropology major which puts me in a strange grey area since it's an odd combination of the usual social science with a bunch of biology thrown in. I'm never sure if physical anthropology is "sciencey" enough. Although, the majority of my core classes focused on genetics and human biology/origins. But we'll see. I felt that I might as well try.
I applied to Harvard's SM Epi. Although mostly as a reach school. I wasn't originally planning on applying, but I looked at their program and really liked it. Figured I didn't really have anything to lose if I wasn't accepted! However, I do have a pretty strong scientific background. I do know that their epi and biostats SMs are the only two public health masters that you don't need work experience for, though.
Um, freaking out a bit - I imagine I shouldn't read into this at all but Columbia just emailed me saying:
Dear catinnat,
We were recently made aware of an outside scholarship opportunity. The details are listed below.
DOES THIS MEAN SOMETHING?! DOES IT?! On the other hand, maybe it means they didn't read my app yet since it's only eligible for Los Angeles residents...I've never even been to Los Angeles. BUT WHY ARE THEY TIPPING ME OFF - ARE THEY JUST BEING NICE OMG😱

I just received that email too. Unfortunately, I suspect we all did. 🤔

Yep. I received the email too. I almost had a heart attack before opening it. I had to remind myself that Columbia has stated they don't give out acceptances until February 😏.
Got accepted to Michigan this morning! So excited! Hope you all hear some good news soon 🙂

It's so weird too that it's such a specific scholarship so I imagine most people (including myself) aren't eligible for it...
Hey! I was just wondering when your application was verified by SOPHAS? Also, does UMichigan send a confirmation email / how do they inform you of their decision?Got accepted to Michigan this morning! So excited! Hope you all hear some good news soon 🙂
Hey! I was just wondering if you've received a confirmation from Oregon yet? I applied right before the deadline and I'm worried!Hey everyone! To anyone who can reply, I would love some advice on my chances...I am interested in only Health Promotion, Community Health, etc. programs and I hope I can get in somewhere because I have a pretty low GPA. I had some health problems sophomore year and my grades show it. However, I have a positive trend in my grades, with my last semester of senior year being a Deans List student. I have not calculated by SOPHAS yet, that GPA below is from my university transcript. Let me know what you guys think! Am I reaching too much?

Hey! My SOPHAS was verified on 11/13. I got a confirmation email about a week and half ago saying that they had begun reviewing my application. And then this morning I got an email saying I was recommended for admission that was shortly followed by an official acceptance email! Good luck!

Wow that was QUICK! Congrats!!
Hi volleyball93, I got the same email this morning saying that I was recommended for admission. About how long after did you get an official acceptance email? My first thought was that to get an official offer of admission I have to attend the Admitted Students Day that they have, but then I saw your post!
Yeah it was! Thank you!
I think it was only 3 or 4 hours after the first email! If you haven't gotten it yet it should be coming soon. Congrats on your acceptance! 🙂

Congrats to the people who just heard good news!!
I just got the Yale confirmation of receipt email (but I submitted later...actually, I submitted on Monday but I was verified at the end of October). I didn't get that official GW acceptance email yet though they said it should be coming my way this week...hmmmm...not anxious or anything, nope. Not like a school's never sent out acceptance emails in error or anything.![]()
I'm sure it wasn't in error! That's still a LOT sooner than a lot of other schools. I finally got my confirm from Columbia today and I submitted to them first.
I had to email Columbia before I got a confirmation email. Also the staff that answers their phones is sort of rude and doesn't seem to know much (especially compared to other schools) so keep that in mind if you call.Okay, so this is like that time I had so much coffee but this time it's Dr. Pepper. AGHHHH and I'm typing really fast. Sort of. Thank you - calming down now...
Yeah, hmm...I never got a real confirm from Columbia. Even after submitting and verification (submitted before verification). After verification, though, I did get another email saying my application was still incomplete with SOPHAS because I was missing a rec. letter. It was kind of odd; I'd already turned in three and so it should have been considered complete? I did end up adding another rec. letter because I was finally able to locate my supervisor from my one public health internship. (He doesn't have much of a web presence and switched to physician practice.) I don't think he's submitted it yet, but I was only able to locate him, like, two weeks ago - so that's fair and I already have three anyways.

Also for anyone who applied to Emory I called yesterday and they said that they hoped to send log ins to their system either this week or next week.
Has anyone heard from Dartmouth or Wash U? Or know when they usually start sending out acceptances?
Woo hoo! Congrats!!!Just got accepted to University of Texas Health and Sciences Houston!

Got e-mails from UCI and Columbia saying that my applications were received! Columbia said decisions will start coming out in mid February. How are my chances and did anyone receive confirmation from UTSPH???
