MPH Fall 2015: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Guys!!!! I don't know what this means but I checked OPUS today and there was a new link under View Admission Decison that says Pay Admission Deposit!!!! There's still no decision when I click the decision letter but this is a good sign right?? Ahhhh freaking out!
UPDATE: just called RSPH and they said I've been accepted!!!!! And that the decision letter will be made available later today!!

Congratulations!!!! I've seen people in older threads saying that the pay admissions deposit link was pretty much a guarantee for an in. I hope I get to see that link soon!

All this Emory talk is putting me on edge!!!! I'm severely jealous of everyone who's had any contact with them recently. What is your concentration again?

On edge? Dude, I am straight up freaking out.

I applied to UMD also! I'm not a MD resident unfortunately, though. Not super relishing the idea of a commute from where I am in DC up to College Park, but I do have some fond memories of the 83 bus line to IKEA from where I used to live. 😀
ahhh gotta love that IKEA. have u had any contact with them? Its not a popular school for public health so I have absolutely no idea when they send out their decisions. I know the deadline is approaching so I guess I'll call in the weeks following to ask a rough estimate. but the wait is killing me !! and cant u take the green line in to college park, or is that the commute u were talking about that you hated lol

Yeah...the longer it keeps going that I don't hear from them, the more I'm freaking out. It's pretty much torture that they are releasing decisions staggered like this!

Oh my ****. I just got the "Pay Admission Deposit" thing. What a relief. EDIT: Checked just to be sure and the admission decision has already been posted. Definitely accepted.

Anybody else? IntriguedStudent?

That's awesome! Congrats! What concentration are you again?

Nothing for me yet. I assume you're finding it under the "View Online Admissions" link in OPUS? I'm hoping that my decision just hasn't come yet due to my application having to process through both the Global Health and Epidemiology Depts. We'll see though. I don't have the best stats to begin with :help:.

I applied for MPH in GH, Infectious Disease. No second choice.

You know, I really don't think you should read much into not hearing something yet. My app was verified in SOPHAS on like November 10, I think. You were a few days after that, right? Also, lest you get down in the dumps over your supposedly not-so-good stats, I majored in graphic design. Could anything be more unrelated? I looked up your stats post and you have great stats. Don't despair. You'll hear from them soon, I know it!

P.S.- Thanks!

Congrats!!! Where does the pay admissions deposit link show up?

Sounds like GH is sending out some admissions decisions today. I would definitely think that having to go to two departments would take longer IntriguedStudent!

Yeah, mine was verified a few days after that I believe. I'm trying not to, I know there are lots of different factors that go into all of this. You may have an unrelated undergrad major, but you had excellent stats! Where does Emory fall in your rankings right now? I think I recall you saying Columbia is your top choice?

Yeah, I'm sure it must. Nobody here has posted an acceptance to GLEPI dept. yet, so I'm going to try not to worry. At least there is movement in both the epidemiology and GH departments right now, though!

Oh I applied to GLEPI too, but didn't realize that it has to go to both epi and GH!

I could be wrong about that. It's what I assumed based on how the environmental epidemiology admissions is handled and what I read on their website (the concentration is a collaboration between the global health and epidemiology concentrations).

I'm glad to see there is another GLEPI person posting here!

I'm a GLEPI person too! And I am just as anxious as you! Emory is far and away my top choice!!

Yeah that makes sense! Are you trying for the MPH or MSPH?

Thanks for the compliments!

As for where Emory ranks to me, I'm honestly not sure. Applying to Emory was a last-minute decision, not because I don't think it's an absolutely stellar school (which it is), but because I didn't think I'd have a chance/be a good fit. Even though I got my design degree at a full-fledged university, it was very much an art school experience. We had no science requirements and I think we only had to take one semester of math. I fully expected Emory to take one look at my transcripts and trash my application, hence why I didn't even try for Epi.

I went into this experience hoping for the best, but prepared to only get an acceptance from Ohio State. Now, even if I do get into Columbia (and now I'm psyching myself out, thinking that my three acceptances mean I won't get in there), I think I'll have to visit each school just to make sure I'm making the right decision.

Another one! I feel like there are quite a few of us, but not many post here.

I ended up applying to the MPH. I felt that it was a better fit for my interests. What about you?

Well the GH concentration at Emory is quite competitive, so you should feel very good about that! You have been accepted to great schools so far. Your experiences are outstanding, so I don't see you having an issue going anywhere, really.

I agree that making a decision is going to be difficult. I ended up applying pretty broadly. Assuming I get a few more acceptances, I'm definitely going to have to find a way to fit in some school visits.

Thanks, man!

Yeah, you applied to quite a lot of places, right? Which ones would be hard for you to choose between? Or do you have one standout school that you're already sure you'd attend?

My tops would be Emory, Columbia, and Harvard ( this is a huge reach). I'd have a really difficult time choosing between those three. UNT is also in my top because the program is pretty good and the location is ideal as my wife has a very good job and could immediately transfer there. Then of course I already live in Atlanta, so GSU is the best option financially. Lots of things to consider.

Just checked my OPUS account for Emory and saw the "Pay Admission Deposit" link!! I clicked on "View Decision Letter" and it said I was accepted!! Emory is definitely one of my top choices and Atlanta is one of my favorite cities in the world (I've traveled to over 10 countries), so I'm totally excited!

Recap of stats and other school info:

GPA 3.72 from a small private college that I attended during high school; 3.3 from UNC-Chapel Hill
Psychology Major
GRE: V 154, Q 158, W 4.5

Applied: Berkeley, Boston, Columbia, Emory, GW, Tulane, UNC
Accepted: Tulane (12/12) for MCH and Emory for GH

😀 😀 😀 😀

For those of you who applied to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, how long did it take for you to hear back?

Thanks! I'm getting so anxious!

Hi! I applied mid-October and was accepted 12/3, it seems like that was the first round of acceptances. Stay positive--I was fully not expecting to hear from them until later this month based on anecdotal evidence from last year's posts on this forum and in GradCafe!

Thanks for the info! I think I have awhile to wait still haha

Same here, it took less than 2 weeks to hear back. I submitted on 11/22 and heard back on 12/4! It seems they make decisions in multiple rounds, so don't worry!

I am too! I feel like a lot of people have heard back already.

Oh man that's so fast! They must have loved your app! I feel like it could be tomorrow or a month from now =P

Seriously! I saw so many acceptances throughout this thread I really want to hear back!

I applied for the MSPH, want to do research.

@IntriguedStudent, by chance, and I know this is going to sound nuts, but did you go to Agnes Scott? I know you said you've been in Atlanta a while, and I thought, as an ASC alum, maybe that was why. If not, just ignore my insanity.

I applied to Emory a few days ago, maybe 1/3. I got my OPUS stuff Monday, and just now at 8PM was told my file was complete and being forwarded to the Epi dept. They said 3-6 weeks. My sister lives in Atlanta, I went to UG there, and I know Emory/CDC well, as my cousin is a medical officer with them (he just left Liberia, as US Director of Ebola Response). Unfortunately, that isn't going to get me in. Congrats to everyone that's in so far, and hang in there to everyone waiting on pins and needles!

Aww, I was rejected by Emory. Oh well. Congratulations to everyone else 🙂!

I did not. I did my undergrad about an hour north of Atlanta. I believe there are quite a few Agnes Scott alums on here though!

Got accepted to Mt Sinai today for Epi 🙂

Congrats! I got accepted into their Epi program as well. It seems to be pretty nice.

It is definitely expensive for those looking for their own place. If you're OK with having roommates (shared house, own room situation), it will definitely bring those costs down. For example, $1,500 (cheapest listed rent for Columbia Plaza Apartments) is more than double what I pay for rent a month - and I live in a pretty awesome area in DC.

OH, and I'm adding a note - my situation is a bit more unique; I rent from an older alumna of my college. My college has a very active "young" alumnae listserv and very active Facebook pages as well. I seem to get emails about open spots in group houses or full apartments, even a whole rowhouse, fairly regularly - at least once a week. If your alumnae are anything like ours, they can be a BIG help in, if not directly advertising their own places to you, hooking you up with housing ads from their friends.

Ahh, never thought of doing this. When I lived in DC I think I did try to contact my alumnae, I'm not sure what happened afterwards, LOL. I think most of them are still in California. I'll have to see if I can set something up. I wouldn't mind renting a room in VA and commuting to DC. You'll always find the most interesting characters on the train. Occasionally, I thought I was hallucinating because I believe I saw a man selling oils? Very strange.

I would love to be back in DC again! Working for the government is my number one goal, and so far that seems like the best option school wise (compared to the other schools I applied to).

I went to check my OPUS to see if I had that option. Instead, I noticed that I have the 'View Online Admission' link under Admissions. Clicked on it to see this:

Your admission decision is not available at this time. Please check your Admission To Do list for remaining application requirements. If all application materials have been received, check your school's website for decision release dates or for decision timeframes. Thank you for your interest in Emory University.

UGH :rage:

This describes how I feel every time I log into OPUS. So about 100 times today alone.

Did you get an e-mail?

Nope! It was on Opus. When I clicked the view decision link, there was an additional link to open a PDF for the decision letter. I knew it was a rejection letter since I was missing the 'pay deposit' link that a lot of folks tend to get (I've noticed it in the '14 thread too).

My feelings were a bit hurt because I was rejected, but I'll admit that I did not necessarily want to go there so it was for the best. Now I'm super nervous to hear back from my top picks! :cyclops:

Yeah, you have a pretty big decision ahead of you, especially since you're married. Best of luck to you, I'm really hoping you hear some good news from Emory soon!

I'm sorry to hear that! If I remember correctly, you've received some acceptances to other nice programs though. What are your top picks?

Yes, it definitely does make the decision more complicated. We went through the list together when I was preparing to apply and only chose schools in locations that we would both be happy moving to. It would definitely make it easier to have an idea of where I'll be ASAP. I hope so too!

I was invited to interview at Ohio State University! I applied to the Veterinary Public Health program and I've heard from friends who are currently in the program that the interview is basically just an orientation into the program and that I've pretty much been accepted! OSU is tied as my second choice with Pittsburgh. Emory is my top choice, but that's a long shot. Congrats to everyone who has gotten in or even just heard a decision at all!
