MPH Fall 2016: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you click on someone's username, you can go back through their posts and find their original one with their stats! Most people here seem to post only on this thread, so there isn't much content to sift through.

Hope this helps!

Similarly, including your stats in a signature is really convenient for both the poster and people reading the responses.

Has anyone heard from Columbia yet? I know that their final deadline isn't until 1/15 but I was just wondering if anyone has heard regarding admissions.
I asked them and they said that they would send out decisions Mid-Feb and Mid-March.

Congrats! If you don't mind, could you answer when your application was submitted/verified and some of your basic credentials (GPA, GRE, etc.)

I just received an invitation to interview at UNC Chapel Hill, however I live in India and to travel to the US on such short notice ( before the end of the month ) might not be feasible for me. What should I do ?

Did everyone put a lot of identifying information (name, program applying to, year, etc.) on each page of their personal statement?

Or did some people just have their name ?

I'm starting to freak out because I only had my name and a title...
I put my name in the header section for each page, but that's about it. I did mention the name of the program I'm applying to within the SoP (on Page 2) but that was to explain the rationale behind why I'm applying for it.

Congrats on the interview! Email them and ask them if it's possible to have the interview over Skype. I'm sure it's possible!

Didn't get the chance to post but I got accepted via email on 1/8 for UMich HBHE!

Congrats!! I'm hoping to hear from them soon, that's the program I applied to! I applied on 12/13 and was already verified, but got the email that they had received my application on 12/18. Their priority deadline was 12/15...should I be worried even though I submitted it before the deadline and it was verified before the deadline?

As someone also suggested, ask for a skype interview? Or even ask if they can schedule you for an interview at a time that you can fly to the US?

Congrats on the interview invite!

Thank you! I submitted and verified on 11/13 and found out 1/8

And here are my credentials: (Which I included in my signature, great idea Montreux!). My more in-depth post is somewhere on page 2 of this thread....

GPA: 3.33
GRE: 151V, 158Q, 4AW
Accepted: Tulane, BU, UNT, UMich

I don't think you should worry too much. If you got your app in before the deadline, it's just a matter of waiting. I'm still waiting on some other schools and it's really a pain...

Does anyone know the answer to this..

I was wait listed at UMich for Global Epi, but they said I am a great fit for Epi. If I say that I would like to be considered for Epi, does that mean that I am taken off of the wait list for Global Epi?

I think it just depends on if you want to be at UMich regardless of program. If you really want to be there, then ask to be considered for Epi. If you really want specifically global epi then just stick with the waitlist but I believe that UMich is a school that has an enormous waitlist (at least for undergrad it was like 10k+ kids). I'm assuming you can't be considered for both programs at once but worth emailing

Did anyone participate in the virtual fair on Wednesday? I missed out because I was called in to work, but going through the UTexas chat transcript, most of their decisions won't be made until mid- to late-February.
(There wasn't a ton of information for US-based students--a majority in there seemed to be international students asking about TOEFL scores and tuition.)

I was accepted to Tulane on 1/8 for epidemiology and received an interview for UNC child and maternal health last night. I also work/live overseas so I hope they let me do a Skype interview...

For those who have gotten acceptances already, what is the time period that you have to respond? Do they give you a set number of weeks like 6 weeks from your acceptance, or is it a set date like April 1st?

Rejected from UT, I'm pretty shocked to tbh. I was in-state as well.

Maybe the GPA did me in? Not enough experience?

Undergrad School: George Mason University (Virginia)

Major/Minor: Community Health/Biology (took all pre-med classes except chemistry)

Accepted: USF (1/7)

Waitlisted:

We have similar stats! I'm also apply epi and hoping to get into GW as my first choice. When were your apps verified? I've been completely crazy and tried to figure out a pattern of which applications they're currently reviewing and how long they're currently taking to release admissions. It's safe to say I've found no pattern. 😏

For Tufts I have until Apr 15th. I think around then is pretty typical because most people don't get all their decisions/finaid packages until March

A lot of people on this thread have received decisions from GW within 2 weeks of their complete notification.

I did see that as well. I'm concerned if the general two week timeline applies to me because people also had their apps submitted well before the priority/scholarship deadline it seems. I'm not sure if the department got backed up with applications during the 2 week break (christmas/new years) and have even more to get through? Tomorrow will be 10 days since I'm verified.

I also saw on this thread that people who applied earlier in december are still waiting for decisions and people who applied around dec 18th have already heard back. I'm just generally confused.

I just emailed GWU about my application submitted 12/14 and they said, "At this time, your application is still in department review. Normally, we ask that you allow 6-8 weeks to hear back with our decision. Your application is currently at the 4 week mark so you should be hearing back soon!" So I just think it's a general slow down. :/

For anyone who has already been accepted, about how long did it take you to hear back from Boston University?

& Yale if anyone can answer!

Thanks 🙂
Yale will not be out until Feb-March.

Can you link me to the said transcripts? It'll help a lot. And by decisions do you mean scholarship decisions, because they've already been sending out acceptances since like a month ago? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Just got in to UT Houston, at 3:08 am. A tad strange!

Applied 12/1, verified 12/4.

Now all that's left for this month, maybe, is Emory...

Congratulations on finally getting your UTH acceptance. 🙂

10 days since verification or 10 days since GW's complete notification e-mail :/? It's been 8 days since I got the complete notification and I'm going mildly insane waiting for a decision!

I just got my admissions decisions for GW (Health Promotion MPH) -- accepted! Application verified on 11/24, complete notification from GW on 12/4. So it appears their proclaimed 6-8 weeks for a decision is indeed accurate (at least for my application).

I e-submitted my GW app on 12/15. But, one of my professors submitted my last LOR late and I was verified early on in the morning on 1/5. I received a complete email from GW that same afternoon on 1/5. So I believe tomorrow will be day 10 since the complete email.

I was even a bit crazy and considered if people count weekends as "days" in the whole hearing back within "10 days" timeline lol but from my research on this thread-- yes, they do. Either how, I think I need to probably chill out and be patient. Here's to hoping!

Wow...if you got rejected with those stats/experience, I should just forget about even getting a shot. (SOPHAS GPA breakdown is horrid.)
Congrats to the UTH acceptances! Apparently the adcom likes to get up super early in the AM...

It's not always about stats and experience (also don't forget SOP and recs play a role)! Sometimes it just comes down to the fit between your interests and the program's. Something to keep in mind

I'm sure you will be fine. I do have acceptances from UAB and Tulane thus far.

Just got my BU acceptance!

Guys I'm so excited!!! When I was first applying to mph programs I prayed every night hoping that at least one school could see that I was worth it and accept me into their program... Today I'm so proud to say that I have been accepted to 3 programs so far: Tufts 12/18, Tulane 12/18, and Boston University 1/14! Thank you everyone who has posted on this thread, you have kept my spirits up during this time of immense patience! Best of luck to everyone, the best is yet to come!

For anyone that applied to Emory:

So I logged into OPUS and it says on my to do list FAFSA 16-17 and it's in the initiated status which means "outstanding item, required to forward application for review". I can't fill out my FAFSA for 16-17 until the end of February when I file my taxes. Does this mean my application not be considered until that time? HELP!

You can submit your FAFSA before filing your taxes. Just select the option that says "Will File" for 2015. Submit the FAFSA, get the EFC, forward report to schools, then edit the FAFSA after you file!

We do! How funny. I applied I think the last week of November to epi, and I found out recently that I am under department review at GW and since I'm coming up on the end of that time period I assume I'll hear back in the next week or two! I noticed the same thing about some people getting their decisions in like two weeks - crazy! I have no idea what the basis for that was or why they were different, mine's taking pretty much the whole timeline.

Not going to lie - I'm super jealous! I applied 11/23 to epi so I'm hoping that doesn't mean anything negative

I'm getting so nervous for UTH! My app was verified 11/13 and haven't heard anything from UTSPH :/

And for those still waiting on it, BU sent their financial package within four days, in my case. 18k. Was hoping for 20 but I'll take it!

Did you receive that in an e-mail/online or was that paper mail?

Did you receive that in an e-mail/online or was that paper mail?
Paper mail. A folder with a few papers and a sort of look-book thing. I'm on the other side of the country, so I'm surprised it came in so quickly!

Ahhh I'm on break for school (out-of-state) and I don't go back until the first week of February and I opted to have all of my admissions related stuff mailed to school so I suppose I'll be waiting a little while longer.

I think you have a very good chance of getting into at least Pitt and GW, but no one on this forum can say where you will get in for sure. As far as program recommendations, I believe you are the only person who is able to answer that question. Research other schools and pick places where you truly think you will fit based on location, jobs, and the specific program you are interested in.

Thank you for your feedback! Best of luck with your applications!

You have a good chance of getting into U of M., Indiana, GW, and Emory. Columbia and Boston might be a tougher competition, but you'd clearly get into at least half of those on your list. Good luck.

I hope you are right about U of M and Emory. They're tied for my top program! Thank you for the feedback. Best of luck to you on you as well. Did you end up applying anywhere else?

Ok! Now that I did that part (phew) I have a question! Do we know if the Pitt Epi Department sends out rolling decisions or are they a lump decision type of place? It said it varies by department and I am just very curious about when to look for a response! I've been verified since late November. Also, big thanks to everyone who has posted for informing me about so much!

Hey guys! I've been a long time lurker but since so many of you gave me the confidence to apply to certain schools I decided to post my stats in hopes that it might help similar applicants like me!

Honestly BU and UT were two of my dream schools and I never thought I would get in! I think my strong letters of rec and personal statement (my grades may be rough but I'm confident in my writing) really helped me out! Every application has its strengths and weaknesses 🙂

Still waiting to hear back from everywhere else I applied - especially Columbia and Emory!

For anyone applying straight out of undergrad, have you had any of your programs ask for your fall grades? I have had a couple ask for mine as I submitted before the end of the semester and I am just wondering if it is common or due to my low gpa

I'm not sure yet. I'm waiting to receive the email that my application has been forwarded for review.

How long did it take Emory to email you with information on OPUS once your application was verified?
