I have a decent looking resume, but I would only be 20 when I started, and a lot of the program's seem to want you to have several years of experience. Do you think that my age would be a big factor? I've applied to mostly top tier schools, and I may add another "safety." I'll probably do a public health related internship over the summer. This whole thing is just super anxiety provoking. Anyways, good luck to everyone!

I guess the wait is going to be prolonged. I don't expect to hear back from Hopkins and BU till after the holidays
If you are planning to stay in the Midwest then you might want to avoid the debt, however a more widely recognized named may open up more opportunities down the road.Hi all! I'm trying to decide whether it would be worth it to choose a higher ranked program if it costs a lot more. I was accepted to GWU and that program would cost $67,000 plus living costs, which is ranked #14. My other option is the University of Iowa, which would cost around $30,000 plus any financial aid I might get (they don't send those until March), which is ranked #17. I also applied to Emory but haven't heard back, though that would cost a ton between tuition and living expenses. I went to Iowa for my undergrad and loved my experience there, but if it's worth it to go to a more well known school, would it be worth the extra debt? Really stuck right now. :/
Got my Boston university packet in the mail!! 12,000 merit scholarship award of excellence! (Don't know if it's per year or total, per year would be awesome lmao)
Now I don't know whether to choose UPenn or BU lol
I'm fairly certain from what I've read of other years that it's a one time thing.Got my Boston university packet in the mail!! 12,000 merit scholarship award of excellence! (Don't know if it's per year or total, per year would be awesome lmao)

Did you get anything from Penn?

I work with several people who got their M.P.H's from GW (I work in the DC area), and my colleague (who I believe is very level-headed and whose judgement I trust immensely) said that she wouldn't attend GW if she had to do it over again. Not hating on GW, nor anyone here who holds a degree from the Milken School, but I haven't heard the greatest things. In my opinion, the extra debt is not worth it unless you attend the following five schools, in no particular order: Michigan - Ann Arbor, Emory, Harvard, Hopkins, and Columbia. The average starting salary from even the best MPH programs (without work experience) are in the $60,000 - $75,000 range.
Any advice for Columbia's phone interviews? What type of questions do they usually ask?
When were you complete/submitted at Columbia?Hey, I just finished up with my interview. It was very relaxed. We essentially had a brief conversation about my background, a little about theirs, and some of what is going on in policy and management at Mailman. Wishing you the best!
I submitted on 11/30. I think I was verified by SOPHAS on 12/2. I believe the interviews were for HPM applicants.
You have outstanding experience! Without your exact GRE scores, it is a little more difficult to be certain, but based on everything else I would say that GWU is NOT a reach school for you. You can get in if your GRE scores are around the average for those admitted.**UNC and GWU are the only reach schools I believe, any other suggestions? My GRE/GPA does not account for everything on my CV**

I had a similar GPA and your GRE scores are much better than mine so you likely have a shot at Columbia. They really value relevant work experience and how it ties into the curriculum and opportunities they offer, so try to work that into your application if you haven't already. I think you'll get into at least BU and GWU since your stats are good!Hi, I've been lurking here for a bit and am finishing up applications soon (hopefully) Can someone chance me for my schools? Anything is helpful

* Considering by GPA and GRE are low - what are my chances? I'm hoping that having over a year of full-time work experience in healthcare and strong LORs from professionals in the field will help make up for my low stats.
Thank you and good luck!!
I got an 18000 dollar APEX scholarship at BU. Does anyone know if you qualify for additional scholarships after you apply for financial aid? I haven't submitted my FAFSA yet.
Someone above got 12k. So far it's been 12-20k...so significant variation.Did everyone get ~20 from BU (via various sources) or was there significant variation?

I'm fairly certain its total. That is what it seemed like from last year and the year before.Okay and is that per year or total?
When I'm adding my transcript on SOPHAS, I'm confused what to put for the subject. For example, I took Epidemiology, so should the course be under the subject Epidemiology or Public Health? I have the same issue with other courses such as Health Policy.
Mine is 20k over the first three semesters...Okay and is that per year or total?
Thank you!! How has your time been at Columbia thus far? It's weird, but SOPHAS does not verify transcripts until after you have submitted. If you're ready, go ahead and submit. Most of the programs I have talked to say as long as you e-submit by the date the application is due, they are ok with waiting a few days to have everything arrive and verified. Is it ok to submit an application when your Sophas Transcript has not yet been verified? My transcript was delivered on 12/9 (late I know) and I want to meet the 1/5 deadlines. According to the SOPHAS website, it takes up the four weeks to verify the transcript, so by my delivery date, it would be as late as 1/6. Any help on this would be helpful!
