MPH Fall 2017: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to everyone on the acceptances!
To those who applied to Columbia: was there a confirmation letter on recieving the application?
I submitted in November but haven't heard from them at all 🙁

That's the email that said the admissions office is assigning university IDs, right?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

So, I received the email stating that the admissions office is assigning university IDs on 11/21. On 12/2, I received another email stating that my UCLA graduate application on Decision Desk had been received. The Department of Epidemiology then sent the email on 12/7 to tell me that my application is under review.

Got it. Thanks for telling me! I got the first two emails but not the third. I applied to a different department though, so I'll email them to ensure all is well. Thank you!

I submitted in November but haven't heard from them at all 🙁

I received the email below on the 18th of November:
"Thank you for submitting your application to the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health masters program. Your application is complete and has been forwarded to the department for review..."

I've been following this thread for weeks but I didn't really get around to posting due to general laziness and work. I feel like I've probably applied to too many schools ( Around 10), it's probably due to my unfamiliarity with the system in the U.S. and the sort of application it takes to get into MPH programs.

Plus, my AWA score is god awful 🙁

I started my application pretty late - so I don't think I'll be hearing back for at least a month. My lack of research and an okay but not great GPA is probably going to hurt me.

Any tips on the University of Michigan Interview? I'd imagine a few of you have had your interviews for the HPM program?

Good luck, everyone!

Got an email JHSPH today that my application has been waitlisted and that a decision will be made after April 16. I applied for MSPH International Health on 01/12. They reviewed my application in a week. That was pretty quick. Anybody else got similar email? Don't know how I feel about my chances of acceptance after being waitlisted.

I also got that email today! The best mediocre new I have ever received...I didn't think I had a shot at Hopkins. Did the wording in the email throw you off? I was under the impression the waitlist was simply a list you moved up so what decision is there to make?

I did find the email a little off. Ideally you move up a waitlist and a decision would have been already made. Well, it will be waiting for another 3 months to find out. Which date did you submit your application and for which program?

If anyone applied to Davis, I emailed and asked about decisions: they are made between January and May. The adcom will begin meeting this week.

Got into UIC (the MCH program in their community health dept) yesterday! They didn't really mention funding and I looove Chicago but have already gotten more enticing offers elsewhere... will see if I can find anything to move them up my list! Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear from them and other schools too!

Thanks for doing that. I'm also waiting on Davis.

What are your other options? Have you heard back from anywhere?

Of course! I haven't heard from anyone, so I'm getting really antsy, haha. Did you apply to Davis by their priority deadline? I didn't. :/

I applied to a few other CA schools: UCLA, Berkeley, UCI, SDSU.

Does Columbia interview all HPM applicants? Or is the interview a good sign? 😉

My application was in, but I think a rec letter arrived late. Idk how they're dealing with that.

I've gotten into UPenn so I'm not that worried about Davis. That said, finances may end up dictating what happens.

Oh, okay. I did ask about my app and they said that I may not get a decision right away, but submitting late wouldn't reduce chances for admission. Not sure how that works, but I'm sure your app is fine!

Congratulations on the acceptance and good luck with the rest!!

Hmmm. I applied 12/31 for International Health and haven't heard back from JSPH since. In the portal, it says my app was sent for review, but nothing else yet. Dunno if that's a good or bad sign :x I really don't think I have a shot there either

Anyone heard from JHSPH who applied for the MSPH in health education and health communication? It's the last school I'm waiting on and I'm getting antsy! 😕

In @ Yale! This is for the Health Care Management program.

Anyone know about financial aid/merit awards for Yale? Seems like you have to fill out their applications first.
Congratulations!!! Out of curiosity, when did you submit your application and when was it deemed complete?

What concentration? And when did you submit?
I submitted 10/28 for epi! The acceptance letter was weird it didn't mention epi or the department at all. Letter was just from the dean of graduate studies and mentioned a department letter which I haven't actually seen yet

Congrats! You have to fill out their financial aid application to get aid (the app is more of a form than anything else). There should be a link when you get your welcome letter from the financial aid office today/tomorrow. So far they've been super helpful answering questions through email!

What are people's thoughts on the thesis versus capstone final projects? Is one better than the other?
