MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Applied to Emory 11/6 for Epi, confirmed 12/15 and denied/rerouted 1/27 to HPM.

My undergrad was in economics, and I was honestly torn between Epi and HPM when I applied. Thinking this will be a stronger fit if I get accepted though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm super bummed, but I figure with an econ background epi was a longshot anyway.

Quick question for y'all, what is your purpose for undertaking a MPH, what main things do you expect to learn during a MPH?
I'm from a town with large public health crises and never learned about preventive or promotive health factors. I attended UC Berkeley, top public health program, and professors constantly talked about their research in my hometown ... realized disconnect between research and community outreach.

May as well post my stats!

I am most worried about my GPA (physics and chem were rough lol-but still had an upward trend in those courses)-I have had an upward trend and have had above a 3.5 the last two semesters. Columbia is a reach for sure but it is my dream program and I am hoping for a miracle.

If you're the founder of Camp Kesem (I am assuming) and president of THE Relay for Life ACS with UNICEF and WHO experience, then you can get into anywhere...Columbia, JH, Harvard would NOT be a reach. GPA isn't everything as evident by a wide variety of candidates' numbers getting into various schools. Shoot your shot!

Yeah I was gonna say, you're experience/extracurriculars are spectacular!! I think if you conveyed your passion for public health in your SOP, you have a really great chance at all of the programs you applied to.

This exact happened to me too yesterday. I am also bummed but also like the idea of health policy as well. Is it bad that your post makes me feel slightly better that I'm not the only one lol?

Honestly? I think its great to know that there are other people sharing a common experience! Lets put our hope in HPM and hopefully come Fall we'll be classmates!

Hey. I didn't submit my GRE score to any programs, and now I'm second guessing because I haven't heard back from any programs either. I got 154 V 150 Q and 4.5 AWA. Does this score suck? Or is it good, should I have submitted it? My GPA wasn't too hot (3.1/3.2 ish) but I think I had a strong SOP and decent experience. ALso, I'm applying to PopFam department at columbia and global health elsewhere (NYU, Brown) , so not Epi or EH where these scores may be uhhh worse. Can anyone give me some ~honest insight~? It might be too late to send to some places, but I'm still thinking of submitting some applications. Thank you!

My scores were low in Quant compared to a lot of people in Epi and I'm not sure they even batted an eye at my scores! I think either way you play it, you'll be okay.

I have a similar GPA and didn't submit GRE scores and it's going OK so far!

Hey,
I recently learned about administrative fellowships, does anyone plan on doing this or have more information?

How did anyone accepted to BU receive their acceptance? I went on my personalized page and it says "Congrats on your acceptance!" but I can't find an acceptance letter anywhere?

We have a personalized page? Lolllll #behind

Hey,

From what I've read, administrative fellowships are typically after the program and are geared towards health administration (mostly MHA students, sometimes MPH in HPM, etc.). They pay well and set you up for a career in hospital administration afterwards. They're also competitive from what I've seen.

Woah, I am also just now hearing about the personalized page. When did you receive this? 😬 😳 🤯

I just tried this out with the link you posted and it seems I have an acceptance at well??! But no email? I'm so confused because I've never seen this link before. Going to email BU and see what's up

Woah, I am also just now hearing about the personalized page. When did you receive this? 😬 😳 🤯
It was in one of the first emails I received from BU, I think once I added it in SOPHAS, back in November? The email subject was "Welcome to Boston University School of Public Health".

Can someone tell me what to click once I click on the personalized page link? For some reason, a general page with MPH news comes up and no login or personalized info.

for me i just put in https://exploresph.bu.edu/FirstnameLastname/landing and my acceptance immediately came up with nothing to click on - tbh it seems like BU is a little bit disorganized right now 😳
