MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Quick question for y'all, what is your purpose for undertaking a MPH, what main things do you expect to learn during a MPH?
For me, an MPH will help me to bridge the gap between all of the knowledge I know and the solutions I can implement to help communities. It wasn’t always my goal to get an MPH, and I really didn’t know what public health was until a professor brought it up to me, but it was always my goal to deal with health and research. I study kinesiology, and the professors I have talked to in that field all agree that public health research is so desperately needed, especially right now and especially in the US. I sort of sat with all of the research I’ve done and knowledge I’ve learned in undergrad and was like, what can I do with this? You know, like, what is the practical application of all of this and what are the skills I need and haven’t learned yet? An MPH is a step I felt I needed to take to get the practical skills to implement research findings and prepare me for a public health profession. I purposefully applied to research-centered programs to prepare me to go into a research-driven career in public health.

Emailed BU about my application not being reviewed yet even though it was submitted 12/9 and I received the review email this morning. I recommend those who are still waiting for BU to review their application to email them about it

Highly second this! Not sure what is going on with their systems but better safe than sorry 🙂

Agree.

For those who have a strong app with good stats, if you wait too long to inquire about your app's status, scholarship money will likely drain out, which translates into no or less money for you.

What's the email address I should email? 🙂

omg thank you so much! I am also doing more work for my clinic in the coming months, should I also include that as well and continue to update them?

You have tons of public health experiences. Those free CE trainings from the CDC will enhance your knowledge in the field. What you need is certified knowledge in the field, as I assume that you might have not taken many, if any, classes related directly to your public health concentration of interest. The CEs will nicely supplement this for your case at this stage. They are certified CE trainings by our one and only CDC.

How do I inquire about scholarship?
Accepted to JHU MPH part-time/online on 1/14, waited over 10 days and no news about financial aid or any scholarship.

Should I send an email about this? If so should I direct to the financial aid department or admissions office?

I would do both because online programs are different. Some online programs' admissions are handled by an extensions center that is separate from the university's grad admissions.

By contacting both offices, you will have a complete answer. Some programs have their admissions office handles all the scholarships, and their financial aid office handles the rest of the aid package.

I had to sign back into my Personal URL which doesn't usually happen when I click on it. I think I got denied by Yale :/ (Anyone have a similar experience?) Maybe I'm just overthinking.

Welp just got denied from my alma mater UNC 😞 but good luck to those who’ve applied and congrats to those who get acceptances!!! It’s a great program!
I'm sorry to hear! I'm sure you'll get in somewhere great 💙
would you mind sharing what concentration you applied for? Either way, sending good vibes your direction

BU update for anyone else worried about the radio silence: I emailed Victoria Durst, the Assistant Admissions Director, yesterday morning and she just got back to me saying, "It looks like your application is in line to be reviewed soon and you should be getting an update before the end of the week." So hopefully some good news soon! For context, my app was verified 10/20 and supplemental done 11/22 with absolute silence from the school since then (not even an "under review" email).

I had the same happen to me (also with my BU personal link), and I was accepted last week! It even happens to me when I go to it now. I wouldn't look into it too much, sometimes it's just the computer/system being weird 🙂

I didn't know that one had to login into the personal url? Is it this one you are referring to - go.publichealth.yale.edu/[NAME]

I applied for the maternal and child health program 🙂 applied 12/1 and thank you! Trying not to feel discouraged and looking forward to my current options!

Yeah, that's the one I'm referring to. Usually, I click it on and my page pops up, but this time I had to personally sign in. I don't know, I may be overthinking it. The same thing happened to BlueCoffee.

welp just gave in and shot an email to UMich for when I can expect to hear back. Will keep y'all updated with their response, if anyone is still waiting on them...

Ok so that was useless. Here is the response:

"Thanks for reaching out. Your application is currently under faculty review in the Epid department. You'll be hearing the admission decision from our team in the near future. Thank you for your patience!"

Uhhh define near future???

I'm sorry for laughing but that is such a comical response. Hoping you hear good news very soon!

do you all think Columbus SMS will still be sending out acceptances? I'm starting to prepare myself for a rejection 🙁

does anyone know anything about the jhu msph health policy interview? have one coming up and very nervous

Hey all, are there others that applied to Hopkins before or on the priority deadline date (12/1) and are still waiting? Figured based on the previous year's timelines that I would have heard back by now, but I am sure I'm not the only one. For those that did hear back, when did you submit, and was it for the MSPH or MPH? Thanks!
