MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! Congratulations on all your acceptances! I am a full-time JHU MPH student concentrating in Child and Adolescent Health and pursuing a certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequalities. I've received quite a bit of PMs regarding writing a letter to appeal to the Office of Financial Aid for a merit scholarship since I was able to do so successfully ($25k). COVID-19 has put many people in rough financial situations and I thought I could offer my assistance to help you obtain some assistance from your top institution. Feel free to PM me questions about Hopkins or scholarship reevaluations. Take care!
How were you able to afford to attend? Even with the MTS scholarship and potential 25k or other aid such as the public health grant, the cost is still insane to me. I haven't heard back from finaid yet but I'm wondering if you (or anyone else) have gotten grants from federal aid too

I felt so stupid seeing everybody saying the "Columbia portal". I was like, what portal??? Did everyone else use something else to apply instead of SOPHAS? Did I miss anything??? WT.....
Then I realized I had completely missed seeing the email asking me to "set up your student portal" this whole time. LOL
So I set it up, and click it, and boom, nothing happens. No ribbons, no bold Congratulations. I was like, oh, so where do I see the status now? Then I saw the tiny little print on top of the webpage: "Congratulations and Welcome to Columbia Public Health! Below you will find additional information on upcoming events, department information and next steps. Begin by completing your decision reply form!"
IS THAT IT?!?
WHY IS COLUMBIA IS BEING SO RIDICULOUS? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyways. I'm accepted!!!! The 4th acceptance within 2 two days!! WOOHOO!

Congrats! Is your name listed at the top and do you have the ability to view your decision letter? We’re not sure if the updated portal page is a glitch for some of us 😳

I don't! hahaha. It's just a comma.

But obviously even if it was a glitch they can't take their words back now. hahahaha
They'll have to take us. lololo

I’ve been lurking here for the past week and I finally decided to post today because I checked my UMich portal and saw that there was a new “View admission recommendation” link available. I didn’t receive an email, I just checked and it said I had been recommended for admission. Just passing this on to see if any of your statuses changed. Does that mean I was accepted? I’m so confused lol and can’t seem to get excited about it until I see an official letter or email! I applied to Health Behavior and Health Education MPH.
Congratulations! When did your application go in for review?

I am a JHU MPH student (11-month program). One of the requirements for the program is to have 2+ years of public health-related experiences. For me, I worked as a Staff Research Associate at UC Berkeley and made about ~$50-$60k ($20/hr) for the two years after taxes. Tuition for the 2020-2021 academic school year is $71,820. I barely make it by.

For those of you who are confused about your Columbia portal. I was accepted to Columbia MPH accelerated (HPM) on 02/02/21 and I can view my acceptance letter under “view your decision here” which takes me to my acceptance letter. This link only became available after my acceptance.

Also to note, I did not interview for HPM accelerated program (so those who didn’t get an interview I wouldn’t count yourself out)

Yeah our page looks nothing like this lol. Seems pretty certain that this is a mistake / glitch. Given that they made a similar error in 2017, this would be a HUGE mistake. Very bad look lol

I noticed @Geo1234 's post and I realize that my portal is not like the attachement.
As @midomashakil says this could be their mistake.... My dream was broken within few seconds lol

I didn’t interview for HPM and was accepted (this was for the accelerated though but I doubt that makes a difference)

My portal looks like that except I have nothing after “Begin by completing your decision reply form!” Just blank space. Was yours blank beneath that at one point or was that information always there?

Unfortunately not. I was claimed as a dependent on my parents' tax returns.
if you file independent than you get priority. Your parents would need to correct their taxes. Tax season does not start until Feb. 12, 2021. Since you are an adult then filing independent would most likely funnel more money as a whole since the tax breaks on dependents may not be as high as student or adult under 24 filing independent. My mother wanted to mark me as dependent so she could get the standard $500 tax deduction but if I file independent (I did) then I get a refund of $3,000. we could split that refund and both make money (I won't lmao)

EDIT: I read your post. If you made $50k then your parents are not allowed to claim you as a dependent. That is tax fraud lol

I feel ya. We messed up our taxes big time. I usually leave this business to them and a tax agent, but that's gonna change this year. Missed out on the COVID-19 stimulus checks which would have been great help for my education.

Those links were not there before and my portal just had "application complete ready for review" (or something along those lines)

I just checked my portal and have gotten into health policy and management at Columbia, but received no acceptance through my email. when i click connect with your department it says click here to view the full letter. its a bit fishy that It says 'dear admitted student' as opposed to my name? UGh the stress is killing me

on a serious note, do u guys really think this is a glitch?!
Yeah my portal just went back to the applicant one. I can still access the admit page by changing the URL but when I log in it takes me to applicant
