MPH / MSPH 2022: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hi! this is an oddly specific question but for some schools I applied to, I included my undergraduate senior thesis as a writing sample. However I guess when I downloaded my thesis from word to a pdf, some of the formatting got messed up and I didn't even realized it until I randomly opened it today on accident. Now there are some random indents and spaces throughout my thesis, making it look a little messy. Should I contact the schools I have applied to letting them know of this error or is not a big deal? ( i wonder if schools even have time to read it?)
Thank you!

In my SOP, I misspelled Johns Hopkins (forgot the S in Johns) and emailed the admission offices of my mistake. They told me it was no big deal and that grammar and formatting errors happen all the time. So, it probably isn't a big deal, but you can always contact the school if you are a big worrier like me.

I would recommend calling the admissions office, they are extremely kind and helpful! If you call operations and ask for Amanda at admissions, she is so kind!
haha! Thanks for your reply and congrats! Finger crossed for my Mon. interview..

I'm filling out the CSS for George Washington - for those of you that have filled it out, I just want to confirm it looks like there isn't any way to fill it out without submitting a parent's financial information?
Correct. You have to put in your parents' financial info even if they are not funding your graduate education at all. I'm pretty sure this is why I almost didn't even bother submitting the CSS for GW because it was a hassle and it's really difficult to get any need-based aid from GW.

GW's reasoning is that students with well-off parents (even if they aren't funding the MPH) will likely have children (the students) who don't need any need-based aid.

Here's info copied word-for-word from an email exchange I had with GW Financial Aid in early 2020: "Congratulations on your admission to GWU. I understand that your parents are not comfortable sharing their financial information on the CSS Profile, but that is the only way that we can determine financial need. There are several factors that go into the process of "affording" graduate school. Some students who have had significant help from their families during undergrad often will not have student loans to repay, will own a car debt free, and even might be on their parent's cell phone plan. This is very different from other students who took out significant college loans for undergrad and may not have had any parental support. We will not and can not provide need-based aid solely on the information on the FAFSA."

and then two months later: "We have reviewed your CCS Profile, and unfortunately are not able to offer you any need-based aid."

Applied to Harvard MPH 45-credit programme. Application verified by SOPHAS on 29 Nov 2021. It is still too early for the results but so anxious!

Thanks!! Yes I ended up not submitting it - I haven’t lived with my parents in over 10 years and have been fully supporting myself for that long! We really aren’t close enough for me to ask for their financial information - I wish they didn’t require it for students over a certain age. Like it seems like would they make a 50 year old student submit their parents info! haha

OMG I got into UNC Chapel Hill for Health Behavior!!! Got a FAFSA notification on Friday and the official acceptance this morning. First gen, Latinx, former college dropout. So excited! Waiting on 2 more before making a decision.

Congrats! Did you ever get an email that your application was under review? I also applied to CAPDIE in November but haven't heard anything from them since then.

Congrats! What program did you apply for?
Thank you so much! Health Policy!
Congratulations!! I got in too
Do we have to fill that decision form on the portal now or later? Sorry if that’s a stupid question 😬
Thank you so much and congratulations! No such thing as a stupid question! 😊

When I click on "view update" my letter says I have until April 15th to decide so I'm waiting until I hear back from all schools! (I assume that date is the same for everyone but not sure!)

Thanks! So, I actually received an email saying my application was complete and forwarded for review on 1/13. On the email, it said it would take 5-6 weeks but with me getting my decision yesterday, it actually took 1.5 weeks.
Congrats! When did you submit your application and are you starting in the Spring or Fall of 2022?
Thank you! I submitted my app on 11/30 for the fall 2022 semester.

Is it too late for me to apply? I have had very little help in this process and have just discovered this thread. Any (kind) advice is appreciated! I know that my chances for scholarship are low, but am unsure if any seats will even be available. If I end up applying, I can have my apps in either this weekend or next.

It is not too late. Most places you can apply until late spring and some even into the summer months. The only potential problem is that the priority deadline has passed for most schools, meaning you won’t have priority acceptance or priority access to funding. Based on your stats I don’t think you would have any issues getting accepted, it’s just a matter of $$ if that is an issue for you! Good luck!

There are still some schools accepting applications. You can make an account with SOPHAS and click "Add Program" and search through all those programs to see which have upcoming deadlines. It looks like you'll have a pretty strong application so there's a good chance you can get in somewhere! If you waited to apply next cycle, you could do more research on which schools would be a good fit for you and get into a top program of your choice, and potentially some merit scholarships. The best advice I ever got was to not rush into grad school, so just passing that advice on 🙂 Good luck with whatever you choose!

Edit: Wanted to add I'd be happy to read your statements/any part of your application if you want some additional eyes!

Off the top of my head, I believe GW and Dartmouth are accepting applications until Feb. 1st! You have a competitive resume so the only catch would be that you may have missed out on scholarships you had a solid shot at receiving if you were to wait until next round, but, that being said, I missed the priority deadline for Dartmouth and still got a scholarship. (nothing crazy, but every bit helps!) It may be worth taking the leap and seeing what your options are! Best of luck to you! 🙂

Has any ones application been denied/ redirected at Emory? Since they give you multiple options to have you first second and third choice. Any insight on this or does anyone know someone whos actually gotten into their second or even third choice program?
