MPH / MSPH 2022: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My Michigan portal updated to include a new 'View Admission Recommendation' link!

The admission recommendation page says, "You have been recommended for admission ... Your admittance will become official upon certification by the School of Public Health's Office for Student Engagement and Practice."

No email yet, hoping it comes soon so I can be sure!

Ahhh, congrats! Where in the portal did you see that? And which program did you apply to, if you don't mind sharing? Thanks!

Hey! What's your profile like?
I applied in November too. Haven't heard back yet. Just wondering if my profile wasn't up to the mark!
I’m an international medical graduate working as a second year resident at a major teaching hospital. GPA 3.65 I’ve done work with ethnic minorities (like myself) in my community, and I have published a paper in psychology in primary care (not first author). I didn’t end up taking the GRE since most of my schools didn’t require it. Feel free to PM me if you want any more details 🙂

Also, I think they did mention something about the verification date being more important than the application date, so if you were verified later than me that might also be a reason why you haven’t heard back yet. It might just be coming out in batches and not related to the strength of your profile, so I think give it a couple more weeks since someone did mention earlier in this thread that they usually give out offers 6-8 weeks after verification. Hang in there!

When is the earliest you could hear back from Hopkins regarding scholarships assuming you didn’t apply for the Bloomberg scholarship.

I noticed a couple of you mentioning your SOPHAS calculated GPA, so I went to check and SOPHAS calculated my law school GPA in conjunction with my undergrad GPA because I went to the same school for both. Unfortunately, they listed them as one average "GPA score" instead of noting the separate entries. (I had a 3.98 in undergrad and a 3.37 in law school.)

Should I be worried about how this looks? Should I email SOPHAS? Am I being anxious over nothing? Thoughts/advice appreciated! 🙂
Personally, I'd follow up with SOPHAS for clarification. My law school and undergrad GPAs were calculated separately (though I did go to different schools). Also, as I'm sure you know, law school grades are very different than grades in undergrad. Your undergrad GPA is awesome! Don't let your law school GPA drag that down 🙂

Accepted to JHU!!

Anyone waiting for Harvard MPH ? I wonder if being accepted to JHU means I have a good chance in getting into Harvard as well...can't tolerate the anxiety 🙁

Nice to see someone in the same situation haha

which field of study did you apply to? I applied to global health (45 cred)

Hello all, new poster here but I have been following the thread for a few weeks. I've been accepted to Emory (Opus portal and official email on1/10). Had my interview with Dartmouth last week as well and thought it went very well. Still have not heard back though. Anxiously waiting on word back from JHU, Harvard, and Dartmouth. The four programs l chose to apply to are online or partially online/on-campus programs. Hoping for some more good news this week.

Had my interview with columbia, has anyone in HPM gotten acceptances yet? its so nervewracking to be back to waiting again 😵

Lol there’s so much anxiety on this thread lately. Relax. You will all do great. 🙂

Hi everyone! Congrats on your acceptances so far! I found SDN to be really helpful while I was going through the process last year. I'm currently at Yale SPH. As a first-gen student, I wish there were a few things I knew going through the process and my first semester. I'm starting to document them through a public health newsletter for MPH students. Hope you find it helpful. Example post here. And the general welcome post is here. Also happy to answer any questions about choosing and about Yale's program. It's been a great experience so far.

They still have not finished interviews for all the students, so I guess they will start releasing the decisions by the end of this week or next week. and yeah waiting sucks!!

Did anyone hear from UW?
I haven't. On my application portal, it says "The program to which you applied expects to make their admissions decisions by late February." I applied to epi.

Hi, I applied for the accelerated professional Columbia HPM program but I didn't get any interview call. Should I be worried? I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't been contacted :/ but could it be it's because I applied for the APP HPM?

Ive read a mix of things but unclear to me which is correct.. do you know if they only interview shortlisted applicants or all HPM applicants before sending out decisions?

On the website, they mentioned that the interview is a part of the application process so I'm guessing they do interview most of the students. Also, I don't think the interview weighs in much because the questions asked are not student-centered and there is no way they can assess the student based on that. It is my opinion that your overall application matters the most and through informal interviews, they just want to know more about how much the candidate wants to go to Columbia. Hope this helps!!

When did you hear back from GW (esp PHCM)?
I found out on March 16 (very late) because of a system error. I was accepted, but I was never notified. I applied well before the deadline. I should have been more persistent with follow up with the admissions office earlier on. Don't be afraid to send a check in email if you hear others are getting notified about PHCM and you're not. Good luck!

How are you liking being at Yale as an older/more experienced student? I haven't gotten in yet, but definitely will be on of my top choices if I get in. I'm wondering as the program/student profiles I've seen from them tend to be younger/less experienced students (but may just be selection bias on who does those profiles? I'm not sure haha) so wasn't sure if it would be a good fit due to that! I'd have about 6 years of public health experience.

Is it okay to email the admission office and ask for an update on the application status? I have not received any application under review email from Yale, GW, and UMich. It’s been almost six weeks since I applied
