Hi everyone whose appearing for the nbde part 1 for jan or feb (or anytime early next year).. Im starting this thread so that we can all motivate each other, and keep each other updated on our progress. so that we dont get lazy, but rather stick to schedule and stay focussed.

**Please dont ask for books, or material or study partners in this thread.

Lets keep it solely for
1. Motivating each other
2. Sharing any mistakes or tips to study better
3. Asking questions during preparation
4. Anything you wish to share with others while you are studying
5. Review or questions regarding books, decks, tests that you are using during this study period

Thanks, and i wish good luck to my fellow test takers 🙂

goodluck Being human in your micro.
i'm still stuck with Biochem, a lot to remeber and i hated.

By the way, no one answers the question yet?!!!!!
is it that much difficult?

All the best to all of us.

thanx haam..by the way i got to study biochem next...from where are u studying it at present...oh i just wish i get over with this and then finish biochem..thats the last big subject left and then rev..oh i stilll have to study occlusion also....but that can be done in the last...back to studying.....wish me luck ppl....happy studying...

Amanda11: goodluck in your exam.
I do recommend that you have enough time for study in order to get a good result and don't forget that there is no other chance, once you take it , it is over!!
However, if you still insisting, go with your plan , I think it is enough as long as you have a solid basic knowledge.

thanx Haam..for the encouraging ...i'll try my best...how much in ur opinion the physiology would take if going on my way in studying as i told u before??taking in consideration that i don't have only the NBDE to look for.....

For Biochem , i'm studying mainly from Lippincot Review book " the blue one" it is comprehensive and covers a lot not to mention that I studied from it during school time. On the other hand, I have the decks which is also good.
BTW , how's the decks in Micro/ Path!!

Actually that is a tough question!!
To be honest, my study scheme is slightly different than the others; I usually study and revise at the same time. For example, if I’m going to study the endocrinology form physiology point of view, I must read and revise the endocrine anatomy first!

It took time but make me comfort that I don’t lose any information especially with dental decks that give you the information directly without any back round information.

In summary, I can finish more than 20 cards/day, without using my technique. It won’t take long. God be with us all!!!

ok....thanx and good luck then ...

hi Haam,i did the same way of study like u,thanks God i found anyone do the same,i think it's more concentrated&easier to collect all stuff related to any subject,i did the endocrine system, the related items of cell structure,i did with decks ,what about u?

hi haam..
presently i am at the end of studying micro minus the immunology part which i will do today and tomorrow...i couldnt study yesterday because of a marriage i had to attend..bad luck...to be frank i find the decks too disjointed in their information so i left in for the last..like to revise from them when i am done with the basic study from books...i dont know whether its the best way but works for me...back to studying...got to cover up for the day i wasted yesterday...

miro123: ooooh god, we are alike.regarding your question, i do like decks too much but the problem with them is the disjoining of the information. it is really difficult to connect all the information from the decks only. i read endocrine from both Snell and Kaplan with addition of the decks.

N.B: Study the Bold and italic in decks very well because most of the question in the reall exam is related to them.

dear Being human, i'm completely like you. i have a lot of personal invitation that i must cover. it is really difficult to combine study and the personal life😕

i'm like you, although i love decks but it is difficult to connect the information fromall of the decks.

i'm still fighting with biochem, but i have only a little left behind. i'll finish themand go directly to Patho/Micro, which Ido like a lot.

By the way, None answer the question yet. it is important because it is from the released questions. try to help me i have a lot ofthem👍

This is a question for all of you. Please try to find the answer.

When both dentition of the human are considered, which of the following represents,in years, the life span of the dental lamina?
A- 1
B- 3
C- 5
D- 9
E- 12

Hi Haam,

Sorry that no one answered the question till now. Let me try.
Well I came across the same question during my studies and I know the answer is not given in the key. I did some research and I believe the answer is C. 5 years. I think thats what is also given in Orban's Histology.
You can also check this link

Another very good link, with your answer.

Good luck!

thanx gotaf for the help....that site for oral histology is really cool.....I still have got this last day for micro and tomorrow start with biochem...i hope it gets over in 10days...dont wanna spare more than that for it...and then switch to revision...i feel like this revision is the most frustrating part of my studies..one day i feel i can do it and i remember every thing and then after a few hours i feel i have to start all over again...got to study now...i hope haam u are able to go as per ur schedule....all the best everyone...back to books...enjoy

hi,
i was following ur post ...seems u r done with micro.actually i've also completed micro a couple of days back.
source:clinical microbiology made simple and decks.
just wanted to know any good source for reading immunology.

Thanks

that's great but which kaplan u read?i use the notes of kaplan, sometimes i feel them very long,u use the notes or question?

yes, it is too long, but i want to have a solid medical informations in order to answer the questions in the real exam. you know sometime we have to guess, so i want to exclude answers with knowledge at least!

the problem of this exam is that they asking about information with a little detail ( not always) for example the dental anatomy question, i really hate it when to ask me about the shape of the occlusal table, the shape of the whole occlusal view. sorry but i think , this is stupid

hi everybody..
i hav started studyin jus a monthe back..
can pls anybody tel me how to go abt micro/patho decks..?
as in they giv a pt's age, their symptoms n path findings...n then we r suppose to mark the disease/disorder...

pls help..

dds4mb4u: yeah i have just completed micro...and all those viruses are still buzzing in my head....for immuno i wud go with kaplan lec notes...i think thats more than enough if u wish for a detailed explaination...actualy i was searching for a book which is more dental oriented in terms of micro organisms..do let me know if u find one...gudluck

Does anyone know from where i can get the previous exams?from ebay, amazon or ADA?and what's the title of them because i found many things i dunno which one's the suitable

Hi Guys,

I'm also new here, started studying 2 months ago. Finished Gross Anatomy and working on Physiology. I'm from Egypt too. It's great that we all encourage each other. I'm planning to take my exam mid-April! I would appreciate any advice or study material recommendations, thanks!

hey vkgbpl....i wud say start study the theory first..i wud recommend goljan audio if u can get ur hands on it....it really gives u the hang of how pathology really works in ur body...supplement it with path nbde review or goljan notes and u are all set to go....oh and i forgot to add practice as many questions as possible after u are done with the theory....gud luck...

hey ppl..
Its been a long time that somebody updated on this thread about their studies...i have started with biochem now and done with the molecular biology part...now gonna start with the metabolism part of biochemm...so how is ur study going haam..havent heard from u...are u done with ur biochem and started micro/path...gud luck everyone and back to my books

Hello Being human.
thank you for asking.
i've just finished the Lipid Biochem and will start in Vitamin. this will be the last part in biochem/physio.

by the way, don't forget to study from lippincot " the blue one" and solve the questions at the end of each chapter.

goodluck to all of us.

Hello Haam,
Will do that....I too have the same edition..its the 4th one...found it pretty good especially the tables....they condense everything so well....anyway gudluck with the vitamin study..its a very high yield topic..i wish i cud get over with this soon too...are u done with molecular biology also??

Yeaaaaah i've finished the molecular biology.it is interesting chapter.
the decks don't cover it very well so read it from lippincot.
goodluck

Hi! everyone..count me in..even i m planning to give NBDE nxt yr....i have started with patho..but m finding it very difficult to retain. i m following kaplan but they are not helpful...shoul i buy usmle notes for that..pls suggest.

hi IMFdoc...welcome to the group..thats gud u have started with ur prep but if i were in ur place i wud study patho after studying physio..coz patho as u know is the study of something not normal in our body and unless u know the normal how can we study the patho part....hopefully then u will be able to retain more stuff..gudluck..

THAnkyou Being Human...i m doing phsio and patho side by side but i m finding it difficult to retain the info....shud i refer other books( except kaplan)

IMFdoc: As Beinghuman replied, i'll go with his advice.
in addition, you may refer to Robins Book for the pathology or the pathology recall book " red one".
i don't know about Kaplan pathology and i have no attempt to read it.

GoodLuck

back again with this not scored item.
please try to solve it, this time is easier.

4-Flouride,Lead

Thanks for the tip man I went through the head and neck videos and they're really cool! I finished biochemistry too and now working on anatomy. The usmle videos are life savers for old timers like me ( graduated in 2000, so you can call me an old fart 😛 )

I'm planning on April for the exam if anyone is interested in a study partner.
Good luck everyone!

Hi, I am khushboo even i plan to take my exam early nxt yr..
Can you tell me wht videos you are talkin about??
do they really hlp??

dds4mBU: thank you so much.
yup true. the answer is flouride and phosphate.

N.B: Selenium is cariogenic, lead and copper has nothing to do with caries.

I hope that you like it. and now back to study:laugh:

hi all
i'm new here..a foreign trained dentist .planning to take in 2011 ...is it only for test takers in jan feb mar or for whole 2011..just started reading...have a kid...so takes time to give nbde...
good luck all...👍

hi everyone planing to give xame in feb last........much confused about anatomy:scared:

decks are a must source for anatomy.
if u are from india make b d chaurasia your reference book.there is no need to go into intricate details of each and every chapter.
for histology section u can have a look at usmle lecture notes.
kaplan nbde review is a bit vast esp for anatomy.(it's my personal opinion esp for histo and embryo)
last but not the least first aid nbde is good for anatomy though there r some errors.
don't forget to keep an atlas side by side.
if u have some extra time go through acland video esp head and neck.it is a bit exhausting but goes well with a cup of coffee!!

good luck!

last 2 days of biochem left and i am frustrated of it though i like the subject....thankfully i am retaining it pretty well this time....cheers..

haam...i just wanted to know whether u have solved asda ques..i tried a few...i am scoring 80 in all leaving dadh....but still i need to do my revision in the subjects...hopefully i can drag this to >90 after revisions and decks...i remember when i had started studing i was not even scoring a proper 60 and i had freaked out literally..but now i am feeling a lot better thinking about this exam...gud luck to everybody...do let me know about ur experience with these tests

thanks a lot yup im frm india..
but wat u mean by keep an atlas side by side.??
nd fr biochem im doing satyanarayana is dat ok wid kaplan??

Dear Beinghuman, well done with your 2 days left. amazing👍
what do you still have to study in Biochem/ Physio?

yes i read the ASDA Questions, i'm scoring around 85 in each division i studied. I hope this is OK.

my advice is to complete your studying from all the sources you have and the go and solve some of these exam.

by the way, i just started with Micro/ Path. wish me luck

hi haam,
Gud luck with ur micro path...how far did u reach in it...i still got to revise patho which i shall do in the end of dec...had read it once but still not confident enough..as i said i am scoring around 80 to 82 only...i am loosing in those silly mistakes which i really hate doing...inspite of knowing the answer...anyway i guess practice is the key to stop doing that too...and most probably once i am done with the revision of these sub might be i can score a lot better..i hate the revision part completely
coming to my biochem i am in the lipids and nucleo proteins part...i then have to start physio which i had done 2 months back pretty well but will refresh it and then jump to biochem rev and decks..i havent touched them till now and that might be the reason of me missong out some points in asda..as for now thats my plan..

About ur score its gud enough but given the fact that u have gone thru all ur sources and still geting the score i wud say revision is the key and try to get ur score till 90...gudluck..i know we can do it...just a bit of patience is what i need only at present and we will rock the exam...

hi guys

help me out guys..not able to find kaplan nbde part 1lecture note book anywhere...any advice??

all the best guys

thank you

aimsky: check Kaplan website or forum in this website.

beinghuman: I Know you totally right , i've to score more than this but you know i need to practice more in the selection of the best answer because i usually rush my dicisions while chosing.😱

by the way, don't concentrate in lipid biochem that much, i wasted a lot of time on it. take the basic priciples and reaction of the basic components. pay meticulous attention to carbs.

in micro/path: i just started with virology and i'm in good progress. reading mainly from microbiology recall / decks and lippincot " green" as a reference.
goodluck to all of us, and study hard in the weekend👍

Do anyone can tell me how can i reach to ASDA released exams, buy them from ebay or amazon or how to get them?

haam: i do hope the weekend stays productive...i am still in biochem...and i might have to take a break for 2 to 3 days coz i wont be in town...then start of with physio...

miro123: i would say dont go for buying this stuff as it turns out to be too expensive...try to download it from somewhere...keep searching and u will find it...i wud give the same advise to aimsky too

hi .. i m new to this forum .. i m planning to write my nbde part 1 somewhere in april ...i just started dental decks ..can anyone plz guide me that where should i focus first ..do i need to read the theory of each and every subject before starting objectives.. if yes then which books should i follow... n what do u feel for 2012 changes ?that would make easier to get through or not..
thanx in advance

I am still stuck in biochem...but just 2hr worth of study left..and then rev and rev of biochem till 15th....this time want to cross the 90 in asda any how....

dr 2008: welcome to the nbde study group and this is going to be a bumpy ride ahead for all ftd especially..regarding ur ques i wud recommend to do a bit of reseach on the topic..there are many threads here where ppl are discussing what they are studying for the exam..u can decide what works for u...but one thing is for sure nobody knows the 100 percent formula...it just depends on how strong ur basics are and how much u need to clear ur concepts..sources are many for all of them..decks, kaplan, first aid etc.....gudluck
