Hi everyone whose appearing for the nbde part 1 for jan or feb (or anytime early next year).. Im starting this thread so that we can all motivate each other, and keep each other updated on our progress. so that we dont get lazy, but rather stick to schedule and stay focussed.

**Please dont ask for books, or material or study partners in this thread.

Lets keep it solely for

2. Sharing any mistakes or tips to study better
3. Asking questions during preparation
4. Anything you wish to share with others while you are studying
5. Review or questions regarding books, decks, tests that you are using during this study period

however, i've 2 questions:

1- according to my knowledge, you can't retake the exam!🙄

2- could you tell us what the most difficult part was? and how was your study scheme? i mean did you revise very well and got prepared before the exam or you just went to the exam trying your luck!

haam: i think cranialnerves can give the exam again coz he has not completed the exam so obviously he wont pass it that is score above 75 thereby making him eligible for a retake for the exam though i wont recommend anybody trying this for their exam....only cranialnerves can answer what made him take such a desperate measure...anyway thats nice u are into bacteria now...my studies have come to a standstill all of a sudden...i was not well and moreover now i have to go out of station....ihate these personal commitments which take up my time..but i have to oblige..and i am happy with a break to refresh myself...

cranialnerves: all the best for ur exam and welcome to the group..do keep us updatet as to whats going on in ur studies..but i wud also like to know as to what material did u prepare from for the exam and what changes are u making into ur preparation which u think can help us in succeeding this time...i am asking this to know which sub or topics u think we must stress on coz u have given the exam recently..thanx ...

I studied from Dental desks, USMLE First Aid, Dental Busters, Question Papers, and at the end I was toooo exhausted to take the test on the test day.......i did not wanted to take the test as I was so exhausted......there were many questions on the exam that I had done but due to burnout my whole body was aching and was having a very acute and sharp headache......may it was not my day.......
There were many questions that I had done but not able to recall......was getting confused......and I didn't wanted to take any risk......so thats why quited......But now I WOULD SUGGEST ONE THING..........Have to do KAPLAN REVIEW..........Which I didn't do last time....its must........and biochem was vast ....must vast of what I expected....and questions on prostho, endo, perio were also asked ......which I had not prepared.......I am old graduate of year 2005

dear cranial nerve: DA is one of the most contaversial subject in NBDE1😱.
just kidding!!!

for me i read the DA from Decks, Kaplan and the internet.
the problem of the decks and kaplan is that they ,sometime, provide diffrent information regarding the same subject and that's why i use the internet to resolve the problem.

for tooth embryology, i read from Ten Cate's Oral histology.

BTW, What happend with TOFEL?

yaah me preparing for toefl.........but smtimes mind wanders and get struck into dentistry...... last time I studied from Dental Busters ....which I think was not enough ....no doubt its good but doesnot cover everything.......will do from wheelers also .........

hey , i got my course by course evaluation report today,but thing is they hav given 2 grade averages like one is comprehensive and other best result.
i dont understand which one i shd consider??whats the difference in both.

HI everyone...finally i am back..i know it was a long break but i think i had to take it coz i had to get some paper work done for my exam...so back to my studies...i had though i wud give a revision for the biochem but sadly cudnt do it...so i am running behind schedule..but its fine..this is my life which can nevr be perfect..so back to studying from tomorrow morning...all the best everyone...

hi, i got one score report.. But i got my ece evaluation done last year, so i dont know if the scoring has a changedto two this year though...u could try calling ada and asking what u should do

thats gud that u also took a break...it really is refreshing...for immuno i am still not that gud on it coz i have still a lot to read in it..i am planning to study it from kaplan immuno lec notes....but then i feel that it is too extensiv.i kept it for later on coz i have a soft copy of it and not the book and i hate to study on a pc...so i will get a printout of it made and then study from it...i am dying to switch to physio at present but still not done with revision of biochem..will try to complete it today...gudluck..

I had already taken the boards in oct..but after the first half of the exam I knew I was doing well..good..but not great..so I walked out. I have already invested 5 months of studying into this exam to give myself a score in the mid80s. So I gave myself an idea of how the test will be and questions, and am now starting to study again soon, within a few days. Which I hope will be more like reviewing.

I also took toefl already and scored a 104😕
Is that a good score for unis? or should I retake it and aim higher?
after I take the boards of course

My answer wud be minor calyces because the renal papilla contains medullary pyramids(histologically have collecting ducts in them) which empty their urine into the minor calyx and any block their would block their flow into the minor calyces..

the exam was good...it wont be difficult if you study for it
alot of the questions are like the asda paper questions. simple and to the point. Dont do the kaplan question bank. its so hard and not even relate-able to how the test is going to be... a friend had told me to look at that a few days before my exam and I freaked out thinking that I wasnt going to do well
I was so demoralized and didn't know what to do and thats why I didnt end up using my last 3 days so well.
I was disappointed in myself for not being confident
The test is not that bad! I swear!
now I know exactly what kind of questions they are going to ask, and I can also work more on subjects that are a bit more difficult for me.

It def isnt a choice everyone can make.
But I thought about it like this: Should I continue and take the test to the best of my abilities and stick with the score?
or should I give myself an opp to retake it since I already had studied so hard for it.
If I had stuck with it, I know i would have scored around the mid 80s...then I would have needed to prepare for Boards 2 as we all know thats not a competitive enough score.
And now I can going to review for the boards 1 and expect myself to do extremely well
and take the exam and move on with my life? haha we all want that
but I want to move on with confidence and after I've given all my best
and knowing that score you have will get you into one university.

I know so many people who have not used it and scored well..
its upto you! I personally wont look at that ever again!
I liked using the decks, wikipedia, boardbusters and asda question bank! and thats it! stick to the basics and know them really really well! its more than enough!
but if you personally want to do kaplan qbank then its totally upto you! 🙂

the decks don't cover it very well so read it from lippincot.

you know it needs to be very brave to do such a choice leaving the exam that way I think you will do so well..but guys I do not think that it is that hard as some people scoring that means it is not impossible to do so but we should e prepared properly and do our best..we should understand every word we read cz if we missed a little thing we will not get it well during revision..that is my opinion..good luck all

I plan on giving my dental boards sometime in May-June of 2011.
I hope to make it for the 2012 intake, if everything happens as planned.

haam, my guess is 3-pyrophosphatase.... its an anti-calculus agent used in toothpastes and mouthrinses

Hey... neva really saw this topic.. so consider me new on this forum .. i actually use nbdeforum more ... am giving exam on feb 16th .. and am actually already kinda freaking out ... am still on second round.. dunno wud that much revision be enuff... and am unable to pick up speed.. i really thought that as the date wud get close , i ll pace up.. but its not happening.. coz everything still takes time ... consider me in this topic for motivation and dosage of inspiration ... and haam .. i think answer to that i s acid phosphatase.. dunno y .. but i think it is.. what is it??
