Why Elephants Don't Get Cancer—And What That Means For Humans

I thought you might be interested in knowing that Dr. Matthew Breen is quoted in the cover feature of Newsweek magazine out today. The article, "Elephants Don't Get Cancer And Scientists Think They Know Why," is about comparative medicine, oncology research, and the connection between animal and human health.

I understand that there will be a discussion about the article tomorrow on "Good Morning, America." In addition, Newsweek is promoting a Twitter question and answer with Dr. Breen and Dr. Joshua Schiffman, an associate professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah. Questions are being accepted now and will be posted and answered tomorrow.

Background:
The partnership between Breen and Schiffman goes back to when Dr. Schiffman was trying to learn more about the cancer that killed his Bernese Mountain dog and came across Dr. Breen's work. We reported on this collaboration in the CVM Magazine article, "A Researcher's Best Friend."

Has anyone received their receipt of credentials email yet? Particularly OOSers?

We are still receiving applications from VMCAS as the verification process continues. Approximately 70% of the applicant pool applied during the last three days of the cycle.

Roughly 2/3 of the 1200 designated applications have been received at this point.

Unfortunately, I can't provide a reliable estimate as to when applicants will hear from the Student Services Office.

The CVM Student Services Office will send notification to applicants as soon as applications are processed. E-mail notifications were sent to some disqualified applicants this week.
 
I received my receipt of credentials email earlier today.

I have not received my receipt of credentials email yet - is this something that we should be concerned about?
 
Glad it isn't just me!!🙂 I'm sure they are just working their way through the list.
 
I just got mine! I submitted aug 13, so I don't know that date matters. I'm sure yours is coming! It's hard being patient though!
 
OOS and got mine this morning too!
 
Oh wow, everyone is getting their emails now! Still anxiously waiting for mine - I submitted on 8/12. I did check with NCSU in September and they said that they received my GRE scores, so hopefully everything else made it too. I'm resisting the urge to send them an email because I know they're probably busy, but the waiting is hard! 🤔

Submitted on 8/9 and still waiting as well! I'm sure we'll get the email eventually!!
 
I'm OOS and got the receipt of credentials email yesterday! If you haven't gotten it yet, I bet it'll be very soon. 🙂

Now to sit back and wait very patiently** until early February...

Hmm I still haven't gotten this receipt of credentials email... Am I being neurotic or should I email NCSU to make sure they got all of my stuff?
 
I didn't recieve mine either, but VMCAS delayed my application super late. The schools are reporting that it took a while for VMCAS to get everything out to them this year, so I'm gonna sit tight for the time being.
 
Whelp, got the email today. I am out of state, last name 'M' if this helps!
 
Congrats, TotesMahGoats! Hrgh, I'm getting so anxious. I'm out of state for NC, but I finally did hear back that they received all of my information! My last name is far down in the alphabet, so it may be awhile, if I hear anything.
 
Should we still expect decision letters on January 31st for OOS applicants?
 
I got a disqualification/rejection from NCSU today. Just thought I'd let you guys know. I am OOS. Best of luck to the rest of you still in the running!

Last name begins with an R, and I'm an in-state applicant who just got notification that they need one more transcript from me.
 
Does anybody know when invitations for interviews will begin?
 
There are no interviews for NC state, but OOS decision letters are supposed to go out Jan 31st and IS goes out Mar 1st.
 
I also got an e-mail saying my application is moving on! It said decision letters with be released in mid to late Feb. I am OOS so I'm guessing that's the date range for all OOS.
