NCSU c/o 2018 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
👍 Thanks, Wulfpack. This is what I suspected. Man, I feel so sorry for you ISers when it comes to NCSU. SUCH a long wait when it comes to hearing anything 🙁 My heart goes out to you.
Thanks! Figures that the school I care most about will take the longest 🙄

Ok, I admit it. I started to freak out about NCSU because I hadn't yet heard anything from them. I contacted Jessica Aycock from admissions today. She told me that Student Services is slowly working through the OOS pile. There are over 800 applicants for 20 OOS slots. OOS applicants will receive their 'Receipt of Credentials' notifications in alphabetical order. I'm at the back end of the alphabet, so I've got a bit of a wait. That's totally fine, I just wanted to be sure my file hadn't gotten lost. Just figured I'd post this for any NCSU OOS folks who may be waiting/wondering.

Good luck to you! I'm excited to see how the OOS spots pan out.

Yeah being an IS applicant sucks. I think I did not hear until late March last time 🙁

Glad to hear that they are chugging along on the OOS apps.

The worst part -- I'll be gone almost the entire month of March, between spring break and various symposia. I'm going to have to get the letter read to me more than likely -- which will be nerve wracking no matter what it says!

I'm Out of State and received my receipt of credentials on October 28. My last name starts with an F just to give everyone a little more info timeline-wise.

I don't really remember when I got mine last year, but I do remember the jolt of epinephrine when I saw the email said that due to an incomplete application, I was no longer under consideration. Fortunately I had a receipt from ordering my transcript and after a LOT of back and forth, it was sorted out. NCSU was by far the biggest pain in my neck during the application process...the site is badly organized, the electronic transcripts never went through, it just never seemed to end. I remember being so frustrated! But it's really a great school and everyone here is kind and awesome. Just got back from teching my first colic surgery. Keep your chin up, y'all.

One thing to keep in mind is that Student Services is an office of about 5 people. They have just spent the last couple of weeks scheduling our 4th year rotations, which required a lot of deconflicting the various requirements that people have for externships and vacations. I remember visiting in Feb prior to applying and Jeff Huckle had a 6" stack of OOS applications sitting on his desk. There's 100 seats to fill and a lot more than that applying for them.

I received an email 10/21 as an OOS applicant saying I was rejected based on my last 45 credit hours GPA. 🙁

The timeline on NCSU website states OOS will receive emails January 31st with decisions since they do not interview. I will be taking off work that day and starring at my email all day! NCSU is my #1 choice 20/800 isn't the best odds but good luck to all applicants!!

I am in IS and just received my receipt of credentials email. Now I have another 3 months to wait...

Y'all get emails this year?

Just an FYI it says decisions letters not emails..... NCSU usually does letters by mail not email.

I just checked on the NCSU c/o 2017's thread, and they MAIL them out ON January 31st... Meaning we don't actually get them until a few days later 🙁 So it won't do you any good to take off work that day!

And all letters (rejections and acceptances) came in small envelopes last year, so don't be discouraged if you get a small envelope... It could be either.

Hoping these next two months fly by!

Yep- I definitely got a letter last year in the mail (though a rejection) so check your mailboxes!

Any previous applicants know if they send the letters to our permanent or current address?

Thanks for the info!!! I still may just have to take off work for that whole week and sit by the mailbox! 🙂

Applying here OOS for the class of 2018. It is incredibly competitive to be accepted to NCSU as an OOS applicant, but I've got high hopes. This is one of the few (if not the only) veterinary school in the US which has a specific track for laboratory animal medicine. I made a trip out to Raleigh specifically to visit the school and fell in love. I've got all my fingers and toes crossed! Go Wolfpack!!

Good luck to all NCSU applicants! I am an out of state student who was vey surprised when I was accepted. I do feel very lucky of completing my degree at this veterinary school! Every time I travel to a conference or another school I always hear good things about NCSU, the research and the new hospital (Terry Center). I am currently doing my clinical year (senior year) and soon to graduate in May.
If anyone is visiting Raleigh this spring and need to stay close to the vet school or find a place to live, my apartment is temporary available. I will be out for a sea turtle medicine externship in Georgia for 1 month. You can go to Airbnb--> https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1288866 see pictures of the apartment and see the calendar for availability. See you soon!

Hi Joanne! Congrats on finishing up your final year at NCSU! The heat is certainly on for us 'hopefuls' here as we eagerly await our admissions decisions, slated to arrive by snail mail somewhere around the first week of February. Thank you for alerting us as to the availability of your apartment. The Sea Turtle externship that you mentioned sounds amazing! Are you planning to specialize in exotic animal medicine, or is this an opportunity that you are pursuing 'just for fun' 😉 NCSU is a fabulous institution. I visited the school in the mid 2000s (can't recall the exact year off the top of my head- I believe it was '05 or '06), and absolutely fell in love with the place. As far as lab animal opportunities go (my area of interest), NCSU really can't be beat. With RTP right around the block, opportunities for clinical exposure during veterinary school abound. Although obtaining admission to NCSU as an OOS student is a long shot (for any applicant, given the fierce competition for the small quantity of seats available), it's a shot worth taking. Here's hoping for some very happy news come February :xf:

Me, me!! NCSU is a slim chance for any OOS applicant, but here's hoping. There's nothing lost by throwing one's hat in the ring and giving it a shot! 😉

Same, I'm keeping my expectations very very low!

Like a 3% chance for OOS but hey the answer is always no if you don't try! Fingers crossed for everyone!! And seriously I think January must be the longest month EVER!!!!

Sorry if this question was already answered but will NCSU send us our acceptances/rejections to our permanent address or our current address? For me this would mean the letter going to my parents house vs. my apartment where I go to school..

Jeff Huckel said that it depends on timing (projected date on their timeline is Jan. 31st), but if they feel that we are all still in school then they will be sent to our school addresses. So yes, they should be sent directly to us.

So wait we may not hear the week of the 31st?? Will they update us so we don't go crazy?!?! Lol

Now mid-February for OOS...at least they let us know!! 🙂

Ahhhh I am taking calculus this semester on the off chance I get accepted here. Now I have to take it a few more weeks! Rawwwwrrrr

You'll survive. We just started planning accepted students day.

Spring Break is going to suck for me and my fellow in-staters 😵 Might actually have to go somewhere this year and have my boyfriend take away my phone or I am going to be obsessing.

My friends invited me on a spring break trip, and I told them I would go as long as they were fully aware of the possibility of me obsessing/crying a lot :nailbiting:

Has anyone heard any updates?
The last update NCSU emailed us was in January, that they'll send out letters in the middle of February. No emails have been sent since then. I doubt anything has changed if you haven't received any additional emails from the school.

Yea that's last I heard. Didn't know if there had been any brave souls to call admissions for an update. I'll just kept compulsively checking my mail lol

State is notorious for running behind 🙁

So sad we won't be finding out next week 🙁

Last year applicants found out early February; the year before that they found out mid-late January; the year before that (c/o 2015) it was late December. The increasing number of applicants doesn't help, I'm sure.

2 more weeks...

(I haven't gone through previous NCSU threads or anything. *twitchy eye*)

It's so competitive!! I feel like they just have to start throwing darts in order to make admission decisions -- there has to be so many qualified applicants! I'm certainly not expecting anything, but you can't help hoping!
