New Jersey Schools Part II

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
these nj schools are being wayy too quiet for me :scared: rwj when oh when will you make a decision for me?

Nope, nothing yet. (Though I was recently accepted by UMDNJ-SOM)

congratulations on SOM! at least that's something 🙂

it is a bit scary as to how quite this thread/nj schools are at the moment. isn't anyone even interviewing right now? i find that hard to believe. oh well, what can you do about it.

i think i might just called the admissions offices today to see how far along they are, maybe at least find out a little info if i can. i'll post with anything when i find out.

Hey guys, I interviewed there yesterday at 10:00 am along with two other students. To be honest, I was a little surprised that there weren't more applicants. However, it's possible that there may have been more earlier in the morning. Either way, interviewing this early is good news no matter how you spin it. I know we're all anxious to get that phone call, but be patient and keep hoping. :luck:

oh yay, new info 🙂

wakkoyh, did you interview at rwj or njms? hope it went well. i wonder if they (rwj) have interviews everyday. that might explain why there were so few applicants when we were there. oh well.

scrubsrfun, the info about your friend is helpful, because at least we know that the admissions office is alive haha. also, i forgot about this earlier on, but when we hear would also depend on how soon our interviewer gets the review back to the committee.

:luck::luck::luck:

does any one know if RWJ is true past fail or do they keep track of grades for ranking for the first two years?

Were you at NJSOM? If so, I was there with you!
I saw about 6 or 7 different applicants in the course of the day, they stagger the interview times so not everyone was on the tour. They told us to expect to hear in 4-6 weeks. Does anyone know if that's accurate? About how quickly do people get called?

i think they do keep track of grades, except they're just covered. i was talking about this pass/fail thing with my interviewer at njms, and he said that you need to have a ranking in the end, so even if some schools are pass/fail, someone is keeping a tally of your grades. i came to the conclusion that this whole pass/fail thing that everyone is harping about is really nothing that spectacular.

Not necessarily true. Some schools have no AOA or class rank at all [mayo for one].

it is only pass fail for the first and second years. You get grades the third year so they could base your rank on that. Does anyone know if RWJ uses just the clincal years for rank?

oops. sorry guys, clearly i was ill-informed.

So...all of you guys who are waiting to hear, you might try calling. I just called RWJ to check my status and the lady said I was in the committee. When I asked how long it would be, she was like "you'll get an invite...wait...hold on...we can schedule it right now"

I'm instate, was complete 8/28, interview is 11/14 at Camden campus.

that's awesome, congratulations! good luck to everyone else who calls.

Hey guys, sorry the reply is coming so late. I was at NJMS. Unfortunately, I have still yet to hear anything from RWJ. I think it's time to give them a call.

I am currently a first year student at RWJ. They use your third and fourth years for "ranking," but we have had a lot of residency program directors come speak to us and they told us that all they look at from your first two years is how you do on the boards.

Also- pass/fail is the best system that could have ever been invented. You cannot imagine the workload students are given, and if we weren't stressed enough and would have to deal with the competitiveness of getting "high pass, pass, etc" grades, I would have dropped out the first week!

Hey everyone,

I am a new member here, but started reading these posts recently. I have an interview with UMDNJ this week. I am IS so I figured I would start with the New Jersey posts....How's eveyone holding up? FYI I was complete mid September.

Welcome to the forums, and congrats on the interview. 🙂

So I got my RWJ rejection in the mail. I knew it was a rejection when I saw that it was in a small envelope.

Oh well, this just makes it easier for me to choose which UMDNJ I'll be attending. 😛

NJMS Class of 2012, here I come! I already cancelled all my other interviews, so I'm officially done with the whole application process.

Does NJMS C/o 2012 have a thread in the allo forums yet?

Congratulations man!....I have about the same stats as you and I'm hoping for UMDNJ over RWJ....I don't know about the NJMS c/o 2012 thread, but hopefully I'll be joining you there...Do you have any advice for the UMDNJ interview?

Nope, I don't have any advice. You don't need any advice for the NJMS interviews. Just be yourself. It will feel like any ordinary conversation. No stress.

I wrote a detailed account of my NJMS interview in this post:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=5647083&postcount=515

If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them. :luck:

No questions, the detailed account was definitely thorough enough..lol...I'm excited to go there though...I have a friend there in her third year and she loves it...I'll let ya know how it goes...

hey, too bad about the rwj rejection. it definitely seemed like you liked njms better though from your posts, so maybe that just goes to prove that njms it was meant to be. you're very lucky to be done with the application process. enjoy the rest of the year!

Yay, this week I got an interview at RWJ (out-of-state but I have family ties to NJ)! It's on the Piscataway campus at the end of Nov. Does anyone know if the campus you interview at is randomly assigned based on availability?

Thanks, you're right. I do, in fact, like NJMS better (and no, I'm not just saying that because I'll be going there next year). I'm definitely enjoying my senior year; my grades can attest to that. Don't worry, you'll be hearing from them soon enough. 🙂

The lady on the phone assigned me to the Camden campus just because it's closer to my home/school. I think it's just based on availability/preference.

so all my fellow nj residents, i need someone to calm me down...i feel like i know so many ppl who have already gotten into njms, and im only one person...so i can imagine that there's so many ppl who have already been accepted which is awesome for them but (and i know im being ridiculous so just bear with me) but are they gonna have any spots left for me?? rwj and njms are my two top choices are this point in the game and i just REALLY wanna get into them. ahh i know im being crazy but somebody calm me down please! 😕:scared:😱😛
it doesnt help that i havent heard from rwj yet and i interviewed there over a month ago, more like a month and a half ago EEEEK

well, if it makes you feel any better, i'm in the exact same situation. the only difference is that i just interviewed about three weeks ago. but that isn't stopping me from being anxious. honestly, i can't really say anything that will calm you, because nothing will till you get in somewhere. i am sounding a lot calmer than i really am. just let's keep hoping that we hear some good news from at least one of the two schools :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

:luck::luck::luck:

yeah, the committee's kept me out lol

 It's cool you have a sense of humor about it. 👍

scrubsrfun - You already have an acceptance! Even if you don't get into one of the NJ schools, you're set! Although, to be honest, if the NJ schools reject you with your great stats, it would be their loss. Don't worry, you should have an acceptance coming your way real soon. Keep your cell phone charged, and answer every call (Dr. H calls your cell phone about the good news). 😉

got the call at 10 pm sunday night!
njms acceptance!!
it hasn't even been 3 wks since my interview.

thanks for the support guys. yes, keeping fingers crossed for everyone. when did you interview, njmed? i was there about three weeks ago, first week of october. scrubs, have you heard anything from rwj? it seems like they're really really quite. oh well. i keep telling myself that there's no point in speculating, because it doesn't change what the adcom decides. on that note, i think i will go and distract myself from sdn and applications for sometime now. (but still subconciously hoping and wishing for good news) :luck::luck::luck:
