I called NJMS Admissions today and it seems they are still accepting students. Don't lose hope yet! 🙂

Congrats! 🙂 I know you've been waiting FOREVER to hear back from RWJ!!

thanks and thanks...definitely have been waiting wayyyy too long! but worth it for the good news.

First I would like to say ....congratssss surferdoccccc!!! ...lol...you know we will be study buddies....even though you are a little south of newark we still have the same classes!...

To anyone waiting on NJMS..I thought I could at least provide a little hope...The table I sat at for the luncheon (and VoiceofReason could prob verify this) didn't have all definites that were attending the class..It seemed like at least 2 of the ppl at my table were leaning towards RWJ....and the other ppl said they were still deciding between their choices...I took the train with someone who was at the luncheon on the way home and he said that he was definitely going to RWJ..now I can only talk for one table out of all of the tables that were there, but this would mean that some seats will open up at some point..so don't lose all hope!!

yea... most of the people i spoke with at the luncheon were not njms definites and actually most were leaning towards not going there.

anyone still waiting for an interview??

I was complete with RWJ in late September. On January 13th they sent me an email that said they'd like to interview me but that they didn't currently have any open spots. Still good news to me!

yeah our table at least didn't have many definites. Some were thinkin' about cornell, bethesda, RWJ.. I would have liked to meet more definite future classmates, but oh well.

the rwj 2012 class thread is boringgggg

Anyone know if the NJMS's class is full yet???? or if it's not full does someone know approximately how many spots are still left???

Also those that were accepted to NJMS, how did they notify you???

Cortana comes to you in your sleep.

I just found my interview invite to NJMS...holy crap my heart is beating a mile a minute. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

It was in my spam folder...eek.

somebody just said a few posts earlier that dean H did say the class was pretty much full but that many students at the accepted students luncheon were not definitely going there and many seemed to be leaning towards other schools. i have to agree with that...most ppl i met said they werent sure about njms...hope that helps calm you down a bit 😳

when you are accepted to rwj or njms dean T or dean H call you up to give you the good news 🙂

I agree! Where are all our classmates?

Any one signed up for cooper? The dean said there were 17 signed up by the time of the open house. That sounds low considering 50 will end up there, but he said it was actually high.

When do people usually find housing? I know there are events in the summer to help students meet other students but that seems a little late since there are already apartments online with June 1st leases.

phenol when was your secondary complete? I'm a little confused as to why I still haven't heard a thing yet.

No idea...If I had to venture a guess I would say mid Sept only because my committee letter took so long to get out.

RWJ sent me a small parcel via snail mail. And I got waitlisted. Then I withdrew my application.

NJMS here I come!! I liked the campus a lot better than RWJs anyway. I'm glad it all worked out for the best. 😀

Congrats Dizzy orange! Has anyone else heard? Its been over 7 weeks for me... and still nada. 🙁🙁🙁

Anyone care to share their interview experiences at NJMS? Is it really a "low-stress" interview?

I'm an interview virgin so if anyone has any useful info on what to expect with NJMS I'd appreciate it. :luck:

Mine was super low stress... just like chatting... best interview i had so far. I only have 3 interview sooo this is the best one out of 3

Mine was also stress free. It was more of like having a conversation with someone interesting. Of course there is the usual, why medicine, why NJMS, and an ethical question or two, but other then that, they are just trying to get to know you as a person. It is open file (the interviewer has your application in front of you), so I guess be prepared for questions about your application, but it will probably only take up a few minutes of your interview. Have fun!

what is the turnaround time these days for RWJ between interview and hear about decision?

i called both RWJ and NJMS admissions office to ask about my application status and both offices told me that i would hear something by February. I asked what that meant but the response was, "it's our school policy to not say what it is" or something along those lines...

do both NJ medical schools finish screening on February?? do i have a slim chance at these two schools?

Im on this February shinnanigans too at RWJ. I dont know about NJMS but at RWJ they looked at your application and didn't make a decision the first time around. In February they go back to these applications (which is when you and I will hear)

Maybe Dr. H will be making some more calls tonight... it is Sunday!

So, I just called NJMS admissions. They said no decision has been made. Could that mean that I have been put on a waitlist or rejected, and they just can't say that over the phone??

Ughhhh....

im starting to panick..its been just over 5 weeks since my interview at rwj...and no word. oh well!

It could be that your interviewer took a while to return his/her assessment. Contact them.

Yeah, one of my friends who was also accepted didn't hear for about 7 weeks after her interview. And it was because her interviewer took a really long time to hand in her assessment.

Had my interview on monday and it didnt go so hot. Unlike from what I've heard about other interviewers mine was late, read my application in front of me and didnt take a single note the whole time. He was a pretty unfriendly guy. Totally, didnt seem like he wanted to be there. Also my interview only lasted an hour compared to others ~1.5. When it came time to ask him questions I asked him "what kind of changes can i expect from NJMS during the next four years?" he went on for about 20 minutes non stop about how he was brought in to handle the corruption issues at NJMS. It was absurd.

On top of that my student interview was a no show but I was fortunate to start a conversation in the waiting room with a second year student who was waiting for his candidate to come out of faculty interview. He looked into the matter for me and said if i was up for it he would interview me after the tour. I took him up on his offer and the student interview could not have gone better. Although his opinion doesn't count for much he said that he thought that I would make an excellent addition to the student body and that he would like having someone like me as a classmate. I've been pondering if this was a preprogrammed response or just out of pity...he seemed like he was being sincere, but again it probably wont help me when the axe falls. It's a shame I really liked the school and what it had to offer.

On the bright side at least I got an interview under my belt now...I'm just going to start looking at next year now.

you never know, at some schools the studentds are tougher (opinion wise) than the faculty. In some places they hold a lot of weight. Here's hoping!

G'luck!

994.. and we were so close to making a New Jersey Schools Part III. Damn improved servers, its all the donors faults 🙄.

Im sorry to hear that, Phenol. But you had a student interview at NJMS? Is this something new that NJMS is doing?

I heard that they were piloting student interviewers this year. They have had students sit on the admissions committee for a while (usually 2 per cycle), but the student interviewer is a new thing.

anyone know if Robert Wood is still interviewing OOS applicants?

Did anyone else find the interview process at NJMS to be a little wierd? I just felt like I had no idea what was going on...and the structure of the school itself made me feel like I was on a huge spaceship! Its a great school and I would love to go there, but did anyone else have these thought? 😎

They sent an e-mail to me in very early january saying I am invited to an interview but they have a huge backlog. I called recently and the woman apologized and said to just wait for an e-mail to schedule an interview. I know some people who have already been accepted and have interviewed. Are they still interviewing for open spots or are the remaining people (like myself) more likely for the waitlist. Also was curious if there are any posts discussing how the interview went and what kind of things have been discussed. Have had alot of varying experiences in my interviews so far. I have heard RWJ's interviews are very laid back.

hey did anyone here participate in the NJMS or startford masters in biomedical scicnes? If so how did/didn't it help?

thanks!

I still ahevn't heard either way, but I'm trying to prepare for plan B which would likely include the 1 year masters especially since I acn get in state res (once I move before I matric) and some of my MPH courses will transfer for credit.

thanks!

I did the MBS program at UMDNJ. It definitely helps if you have a strong MCAT and a low/lower GPA. The kicker is though you have to do exceptionally well for it to help you during the application process. Basically, you are studying non-stop as if your life depends on it (technically it kind of does if your life=medicine). If you are even thinking about doing the program as a backup to a rejection this cycle, start preparing your application for either UMDNJ-Newark or Stratford now. As they are becoming more well known, more students are applying to them, thus increasing the competitiveness of each program. Submit your application no later than March 15. If you get in to medical school at RWJ or NJMS as well as the graduate program, then just withdraw from the master's program, even if you don't get in until July. If you don't get into medical school, but into the graduate program, then you don't have to scramble for plan B if you prepared for it early enough 🙂

Check out the Post-bacc forum for more information on special master's programs. Hope this helps!

Anyone heard back recently from NJMS-acceptance, waitlist, rejection? and when did you interview???

Dizzyorange, when did you interview???

and did anyone receive a response from NJMS within 4 weeks of their interview???

I interviewed at NJMS on 12/18 and got the call on 1/20. I interviewed at RWJ today. The latest news on admissions is that they (RWJ) will likely be giving admissions offers until the end of February. After that, they will still "vote" to accept students, but because the class is overbooked these students will be added to a super-high-priority waiting list. According to the admissions representative, all students on the high-priority waiting list have been offered admissions offers in the past (unless they withdrew), since it is used before the normal waiting list.

Congrats Dizzy orange! Has anyone else heard? Its been over 7 weeks for me... and still nada. 🙁🙁🙁

When Dean H. called me, he said there were numerous delays in processing all the applications, and they had post-interview apps from "months ago" still waiting to be voted on. He explained that mine was reviewed quickly because all the "planets were aligned." So keep the faith nervouswreck!

THANKS DIZZYORANGE!!!!! Unfortunately, the astronomical arrangement behind my application was not so ideal!!!! Haven't heard anything yet.. and calling them always leaves me more frustrated than before...

Maybe NJMS will be my Valentine! 😍
