NHSC Scholarship 2018-2019

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the notification from Credit karma but I just received it about 30 minutes ago and it looks like my credit was checked yesterday.

Just curious, those who have gotten their credit checked, when did you submit your application?

Also received credit check. Notified today on credit karma.. but it was checked yesterday 7/16/18 from credco through equifax. I submitted my application on the last day when it was due (triple checking everything to make sure I did it right haha)

I applied last year and received a credit score check but did not get the scholarship so remember there are no guarantees 😛 Best of luck everyone!

I got a credit check from Credco via Equifax. The inquiry was placed on July 16th, and I just received the notification. I know this doesn’t mean much, but I am relieved. I was really worried that I didn’t fill out a form correctly.

I submitted my application the day it was due because I was making sure that I didn’t miss anything.

Anyone know if credit Karma waits u til the next update to notify you via app? Or as soon as you get a credit check, will it appear within a day or so? My next update is in 4 days so I'm not sure If I have to wait

I think you need to wait until it gets updated. That’s why I just saw the notification today.

Not necessarily. When I applied for my home loan, I was sitting in the loan officer’s office after business hours (about 6pm MST) and literally 10 seconds after she asked me if it was ok that she pull my credit, Credit Karma notified me about the hard inquiry. I don’t think it is always that immediate, but I also don’t think it waits until your update.

Ah, now it makes sense. When I visited SDN and saw that someone had a credit check, my credit karma still had two days before an update. The next morning, which was 12 hours later (I’m currently in the Philippines for a family vacation hence the different time zone), I received a notification in my email from Credit Karma about a recent inquiry. I thought I misread the update info, but it seems like it’ll notify you within a day (or a few hours/minutes/seconds) if you have a recent inquiry. I think it’ll do that if you turn on the “credit monitoring” option in the settings of your credit karma app.

I will say that my student loan credit check says June 12th but my notification didn’t come until June 14th ‍♀️

My Credit Karma updated today but I did not receive a credit check

Wondering the same. Either my Credit Karma hasn't updated yet (it updates every 7 days right? and my last update was July 15th). So far I see only one dental student with a verified credit check and all the others are in medicine

No credit check for me either....my last update was on the 14th.....congrats and good luck to all those who received a check.

If you want to just rip the band aid off and stop the credit karma guessing game you can get your direct equifax credit report once per year for free.

Got an email today from credit karma saying credco checked my score! I checked yesterday through credit karma and my capital one credit card feature and I had no inquiries so it looks like they are still working on getting through the credit checks!!!

I know this doesnt mean I'll get the scholarship, just feels good to know I wasnt cut..yet.

does anyone know what exactly theyre looking for in checking our credit? My score was in the good range, but they bumped it down to fair with their hard inquiry. Not sure which score they saw, but if they are looking for "good" credit (700+) I would hate to be out of the running because my score fell one point below the cut off due to the inquiry :arghh:

No credit check for me either. I guess Im out of the game. Anyway, best of luck to those got checked!

Got a credco check on the 17th! Experian sent me an email regarding a hard pull. I checked credit karma but nothing on the app

Does anyone know about how long it takes after the credit check to send out scholarship acceptances and rejections? I know September 30 is the deadline but I guess I’m just hoping for sooner

Do I have to make an account on credit karma to see if I have credit inquiries?

Hi! So you said you got a notification for the credit check on Experian but didn't get a notification from credit karma??

Yea I got an email from experianidworks which monitors my credit. They sent it Tuesday but when I checked on CK, nothing from credco appeared. So I think i have to wait until the next update for CK to see it.

I believe they are only looking for loan delinquencies or defaults, which is why they don’t just do a soft inquiry for an overall score.

For those that are still waiting, Creditkarma just now updated my report saying Credco checked on the 16th. So it can vary depending on when your report updates.

edit:
They checked Equifax

I checked my Credit Karma and after finally updating there hasn't been a credit check for me. Does anyone know if there's actually two cycles of checks? And if the July 16th one would be the first or second one?

My year, there were at least 2 if not 3 rounds of credit checks. Same with award notifications. I was part of the second round of credit checks and second round of awards.

Hi all,
NHSC sent me an email saying that they attempted a credit inquiry on July 16 but that they got an error message saying that my file was frozen or locked. But I've checked online and been on the phone with Equifax for cumulative hours and there was never a lock or freeze on my account. NHSC said they will try an inquiry again tomorrow (July 23) but if it doesn't go through then I will no longer be in the running. Any idea on what this is, what I could/should do, etc? 🙁

I have had the same thing happen to me but it was because I had my credit locked through LifeLock, so if you have an account with them, I would definitely give that a try. Other than that, I am not sure why that is happening:/

I wish--unless someone stole my identity just to protect it (haha), I don't have anything like that. I'm fresh outta undergrad and have basically no credit history to speak of so I am pretty confused. Credit karma says that I did receive a credit check on the 16th--would it say that if it had been blocked?

I received the same email last Thursday. I immediately contacted Equifax and they asked me to send them a copy of my license and social security card which I immediately did. I have been calling them everyday and it was not until this morning that they let me know my credit was unblocked.

FYI - my email mentioned the next credit check would be today July 24th. Also after some research I believe due to the Equifax hack last September some accounts have been locked since then due to a need for "ID verification". It's crazy that we did not get a heads up from Equifax about our accounts being blocked, I took out a car loan last month and they were able to run a credit inquiry without a problem.

That's wild. I can't believe they would just lock accounts like that. But for me, I called and they said that it wasn't locked or frozen so...?
NHSC also didn't send me an email about all this until last Thursday (which I didn't see until Saturday) so I didn't have much time to deal with it. At this point, I'm just praying it goes through today.

Do you think then saying the next credit check referred to checks for those that had frozen accounts initially or like a second wave of credit checks also?

Does anyone know if the scholarship favors applicants paying in-state vs out-of-state tuition? When I applied I was out-of-state so that's what I listed on the application, but I live in a state that allows 2nd years to reclassify as in-state residents, so now I'm going to be in-state next year. Should I contact someone with the scholarship to try to update the information or just leave it as is?

My fairly uneducated guess is that those whose credit checks don't go through the first time just get pushed into the next round of regular checks. However, I do believe that the check today (7/24) is the last one--the person I was emailing said that the 24th was the firm deadline for credit reports.

So if we dont get a credit report we are for sure out of the running?
