Nova Southeastern University MD Program

What do you guys think about Nova Southeastern University adding an MD program to their school? I'm an undergraduate there and the president just sent us an e-mail stating that they are in the process of establishing an MD program in addition to their DO one.

*Not one of the first.

Reply to the email and tell the president that he/she is wrong haha.

(The news said "NSU will be the only university in the Southeastern United States and the first in Florida to house both an osteopathic medical school and an allopathic medical school" so maybe you just paraphrased it incorrectly.)

I feel that having both MD and DO programs is rather redundant especially considering the upcoming residency merge. Sadly I know little about how DO schools function, so I request further insight from @Goro and @touchpause13 and others.

DO= different philosophy of how to practice medicine. A different doctrine, if you will. End result is the same: taking care of patients.

It's probably the first step to change to only-allopathic, like UC-Irvine did many years ago. Would take at least a few years though to jump through all of LCME's hoops.

Michigan state and Rowan has both already

Rowan is kind of a special case though given the shakeup in the former UMDNJ system... MSU is the only thing that's really comparable.

I have a friend who currently attends Nova and is not impressed.

@freemontie I had the same thought as you, but the current president apparently looooooves moniez, so I'm thinking he'll keep both schools open if it means more students at the same tuition rate.
