2024-2025 Nova Southeastern (MD) Secondary Essay Prompts (4000 character limit each) (1-4 required, others if applicable)

1. Please provide an example that indicates your ability to function effectively as a productive member of a team working toward a common objective. Elaborate on leadership roles you held in this capacity and how you solved problems that arose. Indicate highlights learned from this experience.

2. Please share some personal examples of problem solving in a team environment and/or leadership experience that would lead to your success in a Problem Based Learning environment.

3. At NSU M.D., we value the unique perspective that each applicant brings. Identify any traits, life experiences, or interests that a professor or advisor would not normally know about you.

4. How has your academic work beyond the “traditional” pre-medical school requirements (i.e., introductory biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory physics) prepared you for medical school and for a career in medicine? Please highlight any service-learning activities that align with humanism in medicine.

5. Do you have any gaps or inconsistencies in either academic or standardized test performances throughout your undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate career? If you answered yes to the previous question, please explain. (Optional, if applicable)

6. Is there a time gap between earning your last degree (baccalaureate or other) and the expected time of your medical school matriculation? If you answered yes to the previous question, please explain. (Optional, if applicable)

7. Were you employed full-time (or part-time) during your undergraduate or graduate years? If you answered yes to the previous question, please explain. (if applicable)

8. Have you previously applied to any medical school (M.D., D.O., international)? If yes, please explain what steps you have taken to improve your overall application profile for this admissions cycle. (if applicable)

9. Do you believe that you are an individual or a member of a group that faced adversity, which influenced your goals for a career in medicine and service to others? If you answered yes to the previous question, then please explain the impact it had on your future life events. These may include, but are not limited to, challenges due to the quality of your early educational environment, socioeconomic status, cultural background, access to resources, or other significant circumstances. (9999 chars for this one only) (If applicable)

Has anyone gotten these secondaries yet? Are they the same as last year?

Hi, NSU didn't send me the option to pay the secondary fee after I submitted the application. Do you know how long it takes for them to send it via email or text? This is what is said on the application:

"I understand that my secondary application is not fully submitted until I remit payment, unless I received a waiver from AMCAS through the Fee Assistance Program (FAP). Applicants will receive a link to remit the payment via email and text message. Failure to remit payment will delay review of your application until payment is received."

Their secondary portal seems to have a bunch of mistakes/typos. Maybe this error is related to that.

Hm I am hoping for other people to comment here about the fee. Maybe if I don't get an email from them by the end of the week, I will email or call them. There is no place to pay the fee on their secondary portal, and they did say they would email requesting the fee. Was hoping it would come instantly.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. I am thinking to wait until next week before reaching out. At least it's clear it's not just an issue for me.

Has anyone’s portal updated after paying the fee so that it says paid and completed instead of submitted?

paid on 16 July yet my portal still says incomplete and that it is missing payment. Anyone else?

I just got the same email and came on here to see if I was the only one. I'm not sure whether I need to call or not but hopefully they catch the error since it's likely happening to others too.

+1 I emailed back and gave them my confirmation number. Definitely a fluke so my guess is they’ll fix it! If I get a response I will put it on here

Yup, literally came here to see the same thing xD. I called them, no response, and just sent an email telling them about it. Hopefully they realize they’re actually dumb and rescind these emails and address their stupidity. I’m honestly done with this school because they also had typos on their application, didn’t send the application fee link, and now this. I don’t even wanna go here anymore just because how dumb they are with these things. Get your things straight, this isn’t a baby process, we worked hard and am paying hundreds of dollars individually just for you to tell us to pay again. What a bunch of *******es. Sorry, rant.

the fact that u guys have gotten yourself to write 4 4k character essays is impressive. been putting this one off forever

I just had the same issue so I emailed them. The response stated they acknowledge that my application is complete. I’m sure it was just a glitch or error on their part

Did you just reply to the email itself or to another email address?

They literally just sent me ANOTHER email asking for me to pay a third time ……..

I got the app fee email after submitting yesterday. It asks for my NSU ID and my AAMC ID, but the email they sent me doesn't include the NSU ID. It has the field and then where it is supposed to have the number, it is blank. Did anyone else have this issue?

Ah hell nah why did they just send another app fee reminder. Holy cow, why are they so dumb, how can one institution be so dumb. I am def not going here.
This seems like an extreme response. Considering that Johns Hopkins also had an issue with its payment portal, I don't think the quality of this administration process is a good indicator of the quality of the school.

I emailed them and called the school just now and was told to call back tomorrow morning. From what I was told, they are aware of the problem.

Yall think we should sit and wait to see what happens or start getting the pitchforks and emailing to see what’s going on. I got my receipt for the first time I paid sooo i’m not too stressed.

I emailed and called. I'll call back tomorrow and see what the word is.
