You could fly out at night. i think the interviews go until 5 PM at NOVA, not sure about Bradenton; I think they are all day everywhere. I was told it was an all day process at NOVA. It's real close to Ft Lauderdale airport; I'd fly from there.

Unless it were an 18 hour interview, you should be more than fine. You could probably get to Ft. Lauderdale by 7 or 8 p.m. after LECOM. I recommend the Ft. Lauderdale airport. The miami one is a little far and a pain in the arse a lot of times. Ft. Lauderdale is pretty easy and nearly impossible to have difficulty to get to. You just kind of follow the interstate and you get there.

According the NSU schedule, the "wrap-up" is at 2:30 p.m.
You could theoretically be pretty comfortable with a 4:30 or 5 p.m flight. I'm always paranoid of things popping up, so I tend to allocate a little more time.

I'd allow even more time than that. Whereas the airport is fairly close to Nova, if you are renting a car you got to get it back and then take the shuttle to the airport from the rent-a-car place. Then you are supposed to be there an hour before departure. If wrap up is at 2:30, I would not book a flight until at least 6 PM to be on the safe side.
 
before I submit my AACOMAS application, I went on NOVA's website and got to this webstar login page : https://webstar.nova.edu/pls/PROD/bwskalog.P_DispLoginNon

And then clicked on First time User link and made an account. And then I went through the application for DO and filled the whole thing and even got a email confirmation that the application was submitted and a copy of it is available.

That is why I was wondering if what I filled out was in fact their secondary application. Because since then I have not received any other emails from them.

Is there anyone who have done the same thing?

Yea. I was sent an email with a printable parking permit and the basic schedule.

Does NOVA accept interfolio? Do we do it from interfolio's website or NOVA's?
 
A few questions:

1) Do they have a screened secondary? The guidebook says "by invite only" but if I've got above a 3.0 GPA and > 23 MCAT, is it safe to assume I'll get one?

2) I know this is way premature, but once you're complete, can you call and say "I'll be in the area if you wanna invite me for an interview?" I know some people do that for MD schools. My issue is that I live 1,000+ miles away and if I could travel to FL once for interviews that would be way easier on my schedule/wallet. Just curious if it's totally not kosher to do that.

If I were to try the technique, it'd be after they offer an interview. You simply try to ask politely if they can make an exception an add an extra interview for the specific date. Don't make it sound like it is you trying to kill two birds with one stone as much as previous obligations. Make sure you emphasize how badly you want to come and all that stuff. The lady that scheduled me seemed very nice, so I'm sure if you are able to come off polite and explain in a reasonable way they will try to accommodate you. The worst thing they can say is no.

How do I know if they accept it electronically? When I put in the school's name, it asks for the address; does that mean they don't do it electronically and it will take longer to get to them?

Yeah you can check the link I gave. Nova isn't on that list. That means they'll mail it, but it really won't take too long. Schools still have to download letters, even when they're electronically received. They'll have them in your file within a week or two after you tell Interfolio to mail them.
 
nova was probably the best school in notifying me when they received stuff. I had little emails about everything
 
Its kinda funny looking at all these posts and remembering when I was asking the exact same questions myself...like one year ago!

1) Listen to ANYTHING HemaOncoDoc says!! He is AWESOME!!! Very few people are as well connected as him at this school!
2) LIST ALL OF YOUR SCHOOLS ON THE SECONDARY! They don't actually care where all you applied. I applied to about 50/50 DO and MD programs. They asked in my interview why I applied to both, I explained it, they moved on. Don't get hung up on it...but DON'T LIE!
3) Without Dev being in the admissions office, I'm not sure who to direct you all to. If this year is anything like last year...you will all be wondering if you REALLY want to goto NSU because the admissions office will drive you nucking futs! Just remember, its ONE department in the school. The teachers, for the most part, are amazing! Nearly everyone here is very supportive of the students, and will really work with you! Also...anytime someone tells you something is required...check with an upperclassman...preferably HemaOncoDoc...Also...they will lose things, and they will NOT contact you!! Continually check on your application status! You'll have to do this with your financial aid as well! There were a number of people who were missing items from their file and didn't find out until orientation, and we have students who STILL don't have their financial aid. If you stay on top of things, this will not be you! Call...and then call again...
4) Hurricanes...yea...Fey...more of a tropical hissy fit! Honestly...I've seen worse storms back in Colorado so I was VERY disappointed! That being said...they canceled classes for it (actually the entire campus closed). Kinda annoying because it put us behind a little, but the rescheduled all of our lectures and caught us up! They will NOT require you to cover the material on your own if class is canceled (at least they didn't for the one day we missed). Everything seems pretty well built down here...honestly, I think the only REAL thing you have to worry about is the freaking people...DUMB PEOPLE ARE EVERYWHERE!
5) As for stats...let me make you all relax a little here... I had a GPA of around 2.9. I had a really good MCAT score and lots of extracurriculars, but many other schools would not consider me at all because of my GPA. Nova REALLY does look at the entire applicant! Remember, if they offer you an interview, your statistics are good enough, you just have to prove to them that you have the desire, will and mental stability to make it through ('cause you'll need it!!).
6) Interfolio is fine.

Alright...back to freaking out about biochem....

It really does seem like just yesterday that i was sitting EXACTLY where you guys are. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, I promise, and NOVA is a great place to direct your attention. 🙂

I see that you guys are fortunate enough to have HemoOncoDoc lurking around your thread, HOD is probably the coolest person on SDN, a real calming presence and a great source of info...I mean, not that I was freaking out or anything...:idea: calm, cool and collected. That was me. Yup.

Anyway. I was a re-applicant to NSU. The first time I applied (2 cycles ago) I didn't even get an interview. I applied last year and was granted an interview in February. I should mention that the only reason I got an interview (I'm pretty sure) is that I was pretty on top of calling and checking on my status. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of being on top of the admissions office (this really goes for ANY school). Now, because I know how paranoid and literal you all are, I'm going to say this as well: I am not advocating harassment of admissions staff. One phone call an hour will be PLENTY. ( ;-) )

If you have a question, call and ask. If you feel like you haven't heard from them in a while (a week +) call and check in. Being interested is NEVER a bad thing. The one thing that did come up in my interview is "what did you do with your year off in between applications" Be prepared for this question. While you may not have changed much on your application, is IS important to highlight that you've grown as a person. It doesn't have to be in a medically related field either. I worked in education for a year.

I wrote a different personal statement, but other then that my application was exactly the same (no re-takes of classes or MCAT or anything like that). While I don't RECOMMEND this course of action, if this is how you re-applied you haven't shot your self in the foot.

I think it is hard to be scared by hurricanes if you are a florida native. The vast majority are inconvenient more than anything. Most of us won't live on the water, which is where the real issue is. The biggest problem with fey was that I was stuck inside for 2 days while it rained non-stop. The storm surge was like 4 feet. It got to about a 1/4th of an inch from the top of my sea wall where I live.

I got an interview at NOVA, which is 9/11. So, you guys that are there peep in and say hi. I'm always game for meeting new people. Anyway, I don't like saying I "lied" about my schools but I did only mention the schools I submitted a secondary to on the list. At that point I had just kind of clicked a bunch of schools and was kind of feeling what kind of reception I'd get. If asked, I'll come clean but it seems like an arbitrary point to me.

I'm excited for the interview. It'd be awesome to wind up down there. I'd probably come a few months early and work, sail, fish, and be an all around badass.
 
I've never seen a really BAD storm. I lived in orlando when Andrew hit down here, but that was far removed from us. Charley was pretty rough on us, but that's about it.

That stupid storm (fay) has dropped something insane like 25 inches of rain in melborn and about 17 or so on my house!

I'll totally stick my head in and say hey if I see you on your interview day. the interview day was pretty neat when I did it (waaaaaaaay back when in february heh). very chill. It really is a great school. Like Nate said, don't let the admissions office turn you off to the place!
 
Hurricane Andrew was my worst storm ever. But I was only 7 so i don't remember it too well, just the carnage afterwards. I hope if we get hit with the storms they take care of the zoo animals cuz I don't want any monkeys in my backyard.
 
Hi everyone. I really need some advice. My GPA is a 3.00 and science gpa is a 2.5. I have great letters of recommendation, employment in healthcare, and DO shadowing. I take my MCAT in January and I plan to graduate with my BS in April 2009. My number one school is NOVA! Since my gpa is not high and I have not taken the MCAT should I wait to apply for the next cycle, or go ahead and try for this one. Ideally I would not want to wait and be a year without school (working arg) but I do not want to get rejected and have to apply as a reapplicant. Any suggestions!!! VERY WORRIED 🙁 If you could please reply to me in private if possible just because I do not check the site very often.

I can't believe after I finally submitted my secondary on-line and sent some stuff by snail mail; I'm told to print my secondary/charge verification, sign it and mail it to them. They won't look at anything until they receive that. None of you warned me about that. Now I have to wait another week before they even look at it. Am I really late? :scared:

Wow. I ...huh...I totally don't remember that.

Oh wait. Yes, yes I do. It got me too...I submitted my secondary in...um..September, but I wasn't complete until November 29th (Holy delayed application batman) . the real kick in the pants of it was that I kept getting these e-mails telling me I was missing something, but when I'd call/e-mail, nobody could tell me what I was missing.


It's only September 2nd. I PROMISE you, you aren't late. You might be later then SOME people are, but you are by no means "OMG LATE". Keep in touch with admissions and make sure they have everything else they need.

I know how stressful this all is. Don't worry, you're operating within a reasonable time frame still 🙂

While this has been an effective distraction from reviewing all the structures innervated by the radial nerve, I should probably get back to that...

My signature page was missing...
I have no idea how long it will take you to get complete. At least as long as it takes the signature page to get there. Using interfolio at least guarantees timely delivery of your letters! So that's good.

Good luck on your MCAT! You couldn't have *paid* me to retake that thing (though, in retrospect, in order to have a little more of a "safety net" I maybe should have).

Yikes, seems crazy for them to expect that after doing the app on line.

Why shouldn't the signature page get there in 3 days?
What was your MCAT score? If you don't want to post it, can you PM me? Also what was your gpa? Thanks!

I used interfolio.

What's a good way to call the school and ask about my status? I know I'm complete but after my experience with admissions last year i want to stay on top of them.

MSUCOM and NYCOM are the only two DO schools who don't accept VE. Check here if you want to see the list, which includes MD schools who don't take it.

My biggest issue is that it is my first interview. I wish I could put a school I'm not as interested in first for some practice!
 
has anyone been able to reach someone in the admin office about their status?
... i've had no luck for the past two weeks...so am wondering if it's just luck that gets you through or if i should just wait it out

Our class is REALLY diverse (as far as stats and as far as backgrounds and ages and all that fun stuff). I think that's one of the main strengths of NSU. Lots of schools may SAY they look at the whole applicant, but I can honestly tell you that NSU means it. 😎

I'd be willing to guess that there are liberal arts majors in our class. I was looking for an e-mail that was sent to us a while ago that had everybody's majors from undergrad in it...for the life of me, I can't find the dang thing. I do remember that it was a pretty interesting list. Lots of people who majored in things other then biology/sciences.
