Just submitted my deposit....unless I get a call from Western Pomona about an interview, I'll see you guys next summer in south beach 👍
Hey guys,
Just a quick question. I got accepted and was wondering:
I don't need to submit anything to them to hold my acceptance right? Beyond the deposit due December 14?
I guess what I'm trying to ask is now that I've been accepted the spot is mine until Dec 14 right?
Thanks,
Chris
I'm pretty sure the deadline for deposit is Dec 14th. Other than that, I don't think we need to do anything else. We will have to submit the technical standard and official transcript but that's later. Someone please corrects me if I am wrong 🙂
I have also been accepted since September. I sent in the letter of intent without the deposit just so that they would be aware that I planned to attend and that they could expect my deposit later.
Gosh I'm so late in the cycle. I just got everything submitted minus my committee letter so far. Did everyone else get an email from them about filling out a FAFSA application? I would think that financial aid stuff comes after acceptance...? I'm sure everyone got that email but maybe they just really want me 😀
Do we have to send in the letter of intent right away? I think we could wait till dec 14
P.S. Anyone know why my signature on the bottom of my posts sometimes shows up and sometimes is missing? Strange
It only show up on the first post in a page. 😉
love at the interview last week that another interviewee walked in the room in the morning and said, "which one of you has a really funny name on SDN?"
hahaha... i liked our group, lots of laughs on what normally would be a somewhat stressful day... thanks for keeping it loose everybody!
for those of you unfamiliar with the etymology of the name, here it is:
Turd Furgeson
I'll be interviewing here soon.
Is the interview a group interview (2 or more students being interviewed at the same time)? I believe I read that somewhere.
So no wonder why I haven't heard anything from Nova in like a month...they don't even have my MCAT scores from September! I called them a MONTH ago to verify that they got my score, and got the email with my NSU ID right after my MCAT scores were "received." I called again today since it's been awhile and "mysteriously" they don't have my score even though I authorized AACOMAS to release my score the same day I found out what I got.
Anybody else had this sort of problem with Nova?
Hello all. I just looked at stats from the US News Guide to Medical Schools (the new one) and it appears that if you have an interview at NSU, you are very likely to get accepted !
Apparently last year 2651 total students applied, 508 out of those got interviews, and 458 out of those were accepted ! 458 out of 508 is a very high percentage (90.1%) ! (Most schools have around a 40% interview acceptance rate). So, it seems they screen very hard before the interview and only choose to interview those people who they really believe are good candidates.
Things like this have happened in last year's thread. Be diligent and make sure they have everything in order with you.
Oh trust me, I immediately called/emailed AACOMAS to verify everything - they quickly responded back that the scores were indeed sent to Nova on 10/12....soooo tomorrow someone at Nova is going to get a "polite" earfull as to why my file wasn't properly downloadedI even went as far as calling ALLLL of my other schools that I've applied at to make sure they got my score - they all did on the 12th, minus Nova...

Serious?! That's awesome! Takes a bit of pressure off ;o)
Yup. If you trust US NEWS then that is what the numbers are.
It certainly was exciting to hear for me, as I have heard great things about NOVA and would love to attend school there.
Does anyone know how NSU determines where you do your clinical rotattions? Is it easyto stay in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area all 4 years without having to move? Do they make exceptions for those with families if not?
what is the letter of intent? - the packet only seems to mention deposit, technical standards, and transcripts..?
There is one lottery, that lottery is for rotations in the state of florida. There are a lot of core rotation sites in south florida, a few are outside of it, such as orlando, naples, largo. Most people will remain in south florida, some won't by either choice or bad lottery luck. We submit a list ranking all of the florida core rotation sites, get assigned a lottery number and are placed accordingly. All of your 3rd year rotations and your 4th year ER rotation will be done at the core site assigned to you in the lottery. There is an opportunity to swap your placement with other students, also to appeal the lottery result. If you have kids enrolled in school or a spouse with a job who needs to be in the area, they will work with you. As they put it they aren't in the business of breaking up families.from what i have heard from M3s is that there are basically two lotteries: one for Broward county/Miami area, and another for sites in other parts of the country. you get to choose which to be apart of. last year it was pretty easy to get assigned into the Broward area (the main hospital is Broward County). keep in mind that we do have to conduct a rural rotation no matter what lottery you choose. hope this helps

There are core sites in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and New York. If you want to go out of state you tell them where you want to go and that is where you go, you don't take part in the lottery. No one is made to go out of state.
4th year aside from your ER and rural rotation, it is completely elective, you choose where and what you want to rotate through.
For the rural rotation is it possible to do it somewhere near the Miami/FLL area or at least somewhere where I could drive back and forth? I ask because I have a wife and she will most likely work in the miami area so it will be hard to just move for 3 months.
They're actually rurual/underserved rotations and there are three of them. If I am correct that means you can do it in inner-city type situations. What I'm not sure of is how those are defined or if there are any in Miami.

I don't know how they choose where your rural rotation is or if we get to choose, but they told us the closest one to the school in davie was 45 minutes away. They did mention underserved urban areas count. For the rural rotation is it possible to do it somewhere near the Miami/FLL area or at least somewhere where I could drive back and forth? Does anyone know what the deal is with on-campus housing...specifically couples housing? I have been on their website trying to find information, but there isn't much. Also, does anyone know if it gets filled up quickly and when that application needs to be filed to get a spot. Thanks.
I just flew down to nova this weekend to look at some housing options and Rolling Hills looks really nice, free shuttle service to and from campus, comes fully furnished and they have a resort style pool in building c. They hold the place down like it's the Pentagon.. you can't get any access to it unless you live there which is reassuring as well. It looks like you have the option to be paired up with other med students if you decide to live in a quad apartment rather than a studio. I visited some other places that were decent but it seems you want to stay on the side of 595 closest to nova to dodge the traffic by the highway. What caught me off guard is that alot of the apartment communities close by were filled with more families or other non-students rather than actual nova students. Glad I went down to check it out in person though it's def. different to see it in person rather then relying on the photos of the apartment websites....oh yea and Dtown Fort Lauderdale looks awwsommee, can't wait to get down there this summer!
I have a three bedroom rent is ~1350, cable/phone/internet bundle is 125/mo, electricity is about 130/mo (We keep the ac at 78 during the day, and 70 overnight), water/trash/sewer is ~55/mo.How's the rent/utilities/electricity(for ACs) cost like at these different places?
A few people have asked about research at NSU, and I ended up PM'ing one, then realized it'd have been useful for me to have read this before I even went down to NSU, so here it is if you're interested:
I was recently admitted to NSU and now with some time to kill, have been f'ing around on the NSU thread here.
There were multiple research labs in the Health Professions Buildings when we were touring the building. My guide didn't give us much of a description of what goes on there, but they were pretty standard looking biochem-ish labs. The dean had something really nice to say about research in that "we will never be only a research oriented school, as I want to be known for our teaching. However, I do consider it a shame to have so many smart people in one area and NOT to be contributing as much as we can to the scientific commons." He went on to say that they had just gotten (either 3 or 7 million, can't remember!) from NIH ("Which isn't much, but it's a great start"), and there are two research fellowships given each year for students between 2nd and 3rd years. It was fly- if you get it, you get tuition for the 3rd and 4th years waived, and a stipend on top of funding for whatever project you proposed.
They're definitely trying to up-their research output, and I got the vibe that if you just poke your nose around enough you can even go above and beyond this, especially considering the size of a few of the rotations sites (in Mt. Sinai and Palmetto in particular). There are also Osteopathic Principles and Practice fellowships, but that's another beast (that is funded...).
Does anyone know when transcripts need to be sent in by?
It says in the acceptance letter "within 90 calendar days from the date of registration".
Yeah, I am also confused by this word "registration". Does that mean from the day we received the acceptance letter or from the day we pay the deposit?
I just interviewed here recently (early Nov), and was pretty impressed with the school. I'm really hoping to get in, but I just got an email saying I don't have enough credits of physics. I've never run into this problem with any of the other schools I've applied to, but apparently I need 2 more credits. Does anybody know if this automatically makes me ineligible for admission? Or would they either make an exception or allow me to take the 2 credits at a local college?
