No phone call today. Been staring at my cell the whole day and now I'm mentally and emotionally drained. The waiting process is a pure torture.

if you received an interview from NSU, your chances are pretty good. good luck!

Scorching and Olivetofu, when did you interviewed? it took almost two weeks before I received my acceptance package.

I interviewed on the 18th...almost two weeks. I'm not in a panic, but I can't stop thinking about it...it's addictive.

I'm just worried that they didn't get all my materials on time for the adcom meeting. Does anyone know how much longer it takes, in that case?

i'm in the same situation as you are..... all i do is wait for my phone to ring and continuously check the mailbox for new mail.... so sad 🙁 we should all commiserate 🙂

I interviewed on the 18th as well. And I can say that the interview was not my shining moment. :scared:

can anyone tell me about the curriculum at Nova? I never received my interview packet, and all I can find on their website is this "integrated" approach which doesn't explain much of anything. Any other info you could share about the school, etc would be Great!

thanks

Hey MikeMD, I interviewed on the 25th, but also did not receive a packet. My understanding is the admissions office is a little slow, because I was not the only one. Annoying, but don't let it ruin your interview day. Beyond that, I was impressed with the program. The curriculum is nothing short of ordinary. Nothing special. Your typical run-of-the-mill lecture style courses...some small pbl style sessions, etc. Good luck!

Hey, MikeMD. During my interview, they explained that the classes were mostly lecture-based with a little PBL. It seemed like the med students there liked it. Don't worry about knowing too much about the curriculum before the interview. They have a Q&A and intro video (which my interview group never saw due to technical difficulties) before the interview. I found out everything about their curriculum primarily through the interview day and some from SDN.

As for the interview packet, I received mine a little before the interview. It takes a while. You basically meet inside the Terry building by 8:45am, meet Rachel Weiner around 9am to receive the video intro, then split into two groups for either interviews first & tour later or tours first & interviews later, break for lunch at 12, have a bus tour of the rest of the school, and finally chat with the Dean. My day ended at 3pm.

Good luck. Relax. And eat a good breakfast. I was really hungry and tired by the end of the day.

MikeMD, one more thing...

The packet includes a parking pass...I had to get one from the office when I got there. Just park in the parking garage and go get one off the secretary. I think her name was Linda. That's really the only important thing that comes with the packet.

Again, interview was cake...you'll do fine. Just relax.

whining on SDN with you guys already makes me feel better.

anyway, i know you, cheez5000! from the interview and your sn.

good luck, scorching and cheez5000. given how nerve-racking that day was, i'm sure that we all did fine from the perspective of the interviewers. i've heard of great interviews ending with a rejection and vice-versa.

I parked without the parking pass. Probably wasn't the best idea, but it's not like the parking garage gets full.

Hey...Has anyone who interviewed on the 22nd heard anything yet? How long does it usually take to hear from them?

It took 2 weeks for me. No call... just received a package via certified mail.

Hello pre-NSU-meds, just wanted to drop you a note, I will be giving the tours tomorrow for anyone who is interviewing. Also if you are interviewing you can park in the garage without a pass and no one will bother you about it, there are cars in there everyday without passes.

I will be the guy in the blue shirt, I think the only guy giving tours tomorrow. Good luck everyone, and remember be yourself, be honest, and relax.

Interviewed the 18th as well and nothing. I don't know if I can survive the weekend not knowing....

just got a call from rachel. stuck waiting another ~2 weeks. admissions office didn't see my letter packet until today even though arrived awhile ago. oh well...

I wonder why their admissions office can't get their stuff together. 🙄

Friday...mail has already come and still nothing. No call. No letter.

me too! today is exactly 2 weeks since i've interviewed... :scared:

I'm really not too worried about it until someone here that interviewed the 18th says "I got my acceptance call/letter."

Not saying I wouldn't sleep a little easier, but worrying won't speed up this agonizing process so...

well just had my interview at Nova today and I can definitely confirm the ****ty organization of the admission department! My name wasn't even on the interview list, so the secretary just had me "write it in." I hope this doesn't affect my file at all. They also told me that I didn't have one of my science recs, but I stayed after and talked to an admission rep (Linda) and had her go back and check. sure enough, the letter had just arrived 2 days ago and ofcourse was not processed yet.

Anyway, school looked pretty sweet. Going to be a tough decision if I get in, but the weather definitely helps.

Hahaha. I wasn't on the list either! Then I was interviewed last. I told the interviewers they were making me late for lunch...which was true. Then the interviewers said something like "so you haven't submitted your letters yet," and of course I had. They were like 3 sheets down in their little file. At that point I was thinking..."Oh, Good Lord." But after that the interview went smooth and it seemed they knew a few things about me without reading them right of the app, like they had taken some time to look it over before hand. Anyways, I kinda got that unorganized feeling at first too. But after you listen to the dean you kinda forget about that stuff. Awesome guy.
Well, good luck!

umm yeah the Dean wasn't there. Literally everyone I have talked to said how amazing the Dean was. I was really lookiing forward to hearing him speak. We got the Vice Dean instead. Still good, but not the same 🙁

I'm sorry. I don't want to rub it in, but you really did miss the best part. Hopefully you'll get in and get to meet him. Seems like he would be a blast to go fishing with or something. Ok, I'll stop.

I agree, the Dean was awesome. He really knows how to inspire you to attend NSU.😀

So it seems like the majority of people heard back around the end of the second week after their interviews, right?? Starting to get nervous now because the end of this week will be exactly 2 weeks since my interview. Does the admissions office tell you anything if you call them? Did any of you get a call or is everyone pretty much getting a letter now??

Also, off-topic: sucks that my group didn't see the Dean either, was really looking forward to hearing him! Oh well.

Congratulations to everyone who got in, and good luck to the rest of us!! 🙂

Friday was exactly 2 weeks for me and I still haven't heard anything. I'm thinking it's 2 weeks give or take 2 or 3 business days. Or something like that. And I've pretty much given up on the whole phone call thing...

When I called admissions, they would tell me only if my application was complete, when adcom was meeting, and other harmless things like that. They do not give the status (accepted/not accepted) of your application until the Dean has given the final say. This is my understanding of the situation.

I think some applicants didn't receive a phone call because Rachel was out of the office from the 21st to the 25th. When I spoke to her on 2/1, she said that she personally calls about acceptances.

I interviewed on the 18th, but because of some letter of rec mix-up/delay, my app was not seen the day adcom met, so I was told that I'd wait another ~2 weeks. Others who interviewed should be hearing very soon unless they somehow ended up like me, having to wait.

I agree with everyone else. Dean Silvagni was awesome, and if accepted, I am sure that won't be the last you'll see of him. The student tour guides raved about how student-oriented and how involved he is. He definitely inspired me to go to NSU too!

masalamonkey, it is ridiculous how nerve-racking the two-week wait is. I think it was more stressful than the pre-interview. That's when SDN becomes even more addictive. I hope you find a way to keep your mind off of it, unlike myself.

Hi everyone, I decided this was the best route for me since I need help.

I am a high school senior from Chicago and applying to Nova Southeastern University's DUAL ADMISSION PROGRAM FOR OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE, this can be in 7-8 program and it involves 2 applications with specific requirements. Well now it is time for the interview and I am nervous.

What type of questions are asked, has anyone been in the program or is in it right now? Do we need to know about current health care system, HMO's, medical ethics like abortion, stem cell research, cloning, or is the interview more about personal questions, any examples?

Because I do know BS/MD interviews include the stuff I mentioned above, but I hear NOVA is more relaxed, any comments/details?

Please give an AIM scree-name or email if you are a NOVA dual admit student and can help or anyone else so we can talk/email!

Please help me,
future osteopathic physician! (ignore the futurepharm thing-its my brother)

I don't need to point you to the NSU Dual Admissions forum because I see you're already there.

I can't give you specifics about the Dual Admissions interview, but my DO interview was really laidback. See the interview database on NSU and you'll see the most questions are just "Tell me about yourself," "Strengths and weaknesses," and typical stuff like that.

Since you're young and applying for a long commitment, I think it's important for you to appear mature and ready to take on the long journey of medicine during the interview...yeah, I think this can be tough. Be prepared by knowing your app and transcript inside out.

I also looked into the whole medical ethics and healthcare politics stuff, as well as Floridian politics (I'm out-of-state). None of that came into the interview. If you feel it's really important, I just picked up a copy of the AMA (or go to their website). It doesn't take long to read. What I really gained from all these resources was realism about the field...the HMOs, the long hours, etc. Enthusiasm for the field is important, but I believe realism is an important component too.

During my interview day, everyone from NSU emphasized the diversity there as well as their passion for international and rural healthcare. Admissions was a little disorganized. Some people missed their lunches or tours or waited forever for their interviews. Just relax and be ready for small delays or mix-ups. Try chatting with other applicants nearby. They also offer a lot of information about the interview too.

PM me if you still have questions. I'm not an NSU student, but willing to offer any insight about my interview.

It's definitely on my mind all the time. Really waiting for that call/letter. Good luck to all of you and to those who are interviewing soon, don't be nervous. The interview day is really nice and they don't make the questions too hard generally. I suggest taking a pair of flip-flops to head out to the beach after the interview if you have a few hours. My flight out of FLL wasn't until 8PM so one of the other interviewees and I drove around Fort Lauderdale a little and went to the beach. I was barefoot and in my suit still (bc I had already checked out!)😀 So really recommend taking flip-flops!

Good luck guys.

Yes, according to the NSU website the MCAT is 24. From what I understand most people are within a few points of that +/-. Good thing is they really seem to care about non-academic stuff as well so if you get an interview be prepared for that!

yeah, i got my "24 MCAT" value from their website...but i wasnt sure if anything LESS than 24 meant that you could not get an interview.
from your response, it sounded like you could be below 24 and still get interviewed.
I am wondering if they have a minimum cut-off, not an average.
thanks

A guy in my interview group at Nova scored 23.

did anyone from jan 18th interview group hear anything yet?

did anyone from jan 18th interview group hear anything yet?

Not yet. Still waiting. Not to sound like a cocky bastard or anything, but I stopped worrying about it when I saw that they accept about 90% of in state interviewees. Being that I'm a FL resident with a 32 MCAT it's hard to imagine I'd be in the 10% rejected. Still, nothing is guaranteed so I'll feel a lot better when letter is in hand. But I'll post something as soon as I know either way.

I called this morning to check if the adcom had all my application materials and in my voice-message I mentioned that this is was the start of the 2nd week since my interview (1/25). I got a call back from Rachel saying that the adcom was reviewing our applications and has not made a decision yet. It would take up to 2 more weeks because they were backed up. Just wanted to give you a guys a heads up so you don't worry too much if you haven't heard back because most probably no one from your group has heard back yet.

Now I have to find ways to stop thinking about this for the next few days!!!!😱😱😱

hey all.....interviewed yesterday 2/4

they start you off in the front office, have you sign in, then wait for a decent while..

you then go upstairs to this board room and watch a dvd that is actually pretty good, then have the director of preclincal education talk for awhile about some boring but important stuff.

you are then assigned groups, group 1 or 2....(we had about 10-12 kids i think)
one group interviews first while the other takes tours. they say you will be done by noon but it takes longer than that. you will then eat lunch with some med students and they all talk the school up etc etc....we had 3 real cool guys talking with us.

then on to the bus tour. the campus is absolutely gorgeous and the rec center is amazing. its nice to have buildings that are brand spanking new....and the girls suntanning in the 80 degree weather outdoor pool area doesnt hurt either 😀

after this the dean will come and talk to you, we got lucky bc he was there yesterday. im going to say what the everyone else has said...this guy is flippin awesome. he sat done and talked with us for at least an hour and a half, probably an hour 45 minutes. he really gets you wanting to goto the school, and if his talk doesnt gets you very excited about being a doctor, you shouldnt even trying to be going into medicine.

thats about it, we will hear back whether we got in in 2 weeks... the committee meets on wednesdays. good luck people.

Anyone hear back this week?? I was told that the wait for my group (1/25) is extended by up to 2 weeks b/c of a large number of applications being processed.

Hey folks
Im currently a first year at Nova Southeastern and I've been running some of the tours recently. I'm glad to hear lots of positive responses about interviews. Just want to say, hang in there. I interviewed in February, didn't get a status update until April or so, then didn't get accepted until 4 days before school. The process sucks, but try to stay positive.

I hope most of you got to hear Dean Salvagni speak, because that was a huge deciding factor for me. If you have any questions, feel free to post, and Ill hopefully remember to check the site every now and then. I wish the best of luck to all of you. Take care.

Andrew

Were you at the interviews today 🙂 ?

Man. I wasn't nervous before I went there because I'd already gotten into a school that I'd be really happy going to, but the more I saw the more I absolutely *loved* NSU. Now I'm all nervous. Hurmph. *if* I get in there it's really going to give WVSOM a run for it's money (what with the instate and all on top of how awesome it is).
Do you know how their interview/acceptance ratio is?

Anyone hear back yet from the 1/22 or 1/25 interview dates? No news on my end.
