Hey guys, I will be there with you on Oct. 25th. Where are you guys coming from? I thought I saw the stats somewhere that like 85% of those interviewed are offered acceptance.
yes..wear full suits..there wont be much walking around outside..mainly inside..plus u can always take off ur blazer when u get hot...best of luck on the interview..be sure to check out the interview feedback section on SDN.
Yeah, I will be wearing a suit. I'm expecting to sweat a lot, but that shows I'm human right? Maybe get those botox injections in your armpit...
I'm coming from CA, so I'm getting there Wednesday morning and gonna spend the day looking/driving around town. Not sure where I'm staying yet. I am gonna wait to see if I get the information packet from them (though I've see na few posts where people said they never got it). If I don't get it in a few weeks I'll just do some priceline negotiating.
I've just looked over the interview reviews for NSU and will be prepared to answer the main questions like "what is DO?" "Why do you want to be a Dr.?" etc.
..getting there the morning before is a good idea..ill be getting there the night before, so im not sure how im gonna find my way around. i heard the holiday iinn (and maybe bestwestern) have cheap interview rates for students....check it out.Terry Building of the Health Professions Division. You will enter the main entrace which has motion sensor doors. Go into the admissions office on the right. If you pass elevators, you've gone too far.lol botox..getting there the morning before is a good idea..ill be getting there the night before, so im not sure how im gonna find my way around. i heard the holiday iinn (and maybe bestwestern) have cheap interview rates for students....check it out.
if you get that packet before us, could you post info like the building, room, etc where we have to meet?
👍

The NSU interview questions are "money." During my interview, I was asked many of the same questions found on that site. If anyone has Dr. Tu as an interviewer, he will most likely ask who is the founder of Osteopathic Medicine. I didn't have him as an interviewer, but we did meet him during our tour, and he asked our group that question.
On that note, best of luck everyone.
Never a problem. Medical students do not interview candidates, but feel free to ask your tour guide questions. They are usually an M1 or an M2. Sorry for being vague, and yes, the SDN interview feedback is an invaluable resource for interview questions. Your questions aren't random.thank you so much 👍 do you have any other advice about the other interviewers? are there med-students who interview us?....when you say "money" you mean the interview feedback from SDN rite? lol sorry for the random questions

Advice:
1) Have a list of questions to ask your interviewers. Many of your questions are bound to be answered during the interview itself. Asking thoughtful questions at the end of the interview shows your continued interest in the school.
2) Be sincere and honest. They know when you're not. They've been doing it for many years.
3) Be sure to have an answer to the weaknesses in your application. Be sure to be honest and try to turn any weakness into a strength or rather provide how you are actively working to improve yourself.
4) Have fun! You're in Ft. Lauderdale...well technically Davie, but it's close enough.
The interviews were open-file. It up to interviewer(s) whether they read it in advance or not. Answer your questions as if they didn't read anything about your application. You will usually have two to three interviewers. I was asked rather vague questions along with poignant questions about my application.thanks for the advice. are all the interviews open-file? and do interviewed ppl usually get accepted? Also, i've researched the school as much as i can, and if i take the tour before interviews, im afraid i'll have no other thoughtful questions to ask...i mean, i cant ask them about how they manage their life outside being a doctor...even though it would be cool to know...
I have an interview at Nova on the 25th, but have not received their interview information packet through the mail yet. Can someone please tell me if there's any important information in that packet that I should know? I know that the interview is suppose to last from 9AM to 3PM, but have no idea where to park, or what building/room to go to for the interview. Also if anyone can link me to a campus map of NSU, I would really appreciate it. Also, do we need to bring anything to the interview?
Thanks guys
I'm really nervous too. This will be my first interview, and knowing that NSU has an 80 percent acceptance for OOS and is one of the top DO schools, I really don't want to blow it.
I'll see ya there though, I'll be the short asian guy in the suit 😀
yea, I know DO rankings are subjective since there is no official criteria to rank them by. However, reading the opinions of many others on SDN, NSU seems to be one that tends to be on a lot of people's top 5 list due to it having great facilities, location, and high matching into specialist residencies.
ive still yet to see their rate of matching into specialities as high.. the us news poll has them as one of the highest %s entering into primary care. not that this is a bad thing, but i dont know where everyones getting this from.
mind you im just trying to play devil's advocate, nova is one of my top choices
Don't get too hung up on matchlists, especially at osteopathic schools. 1) IM is considered primary care but alot of people go into fellowships (cardiology, endocrinology, etc) and, 2) DO schools list down only the PGY1 which for many people who want to stay in Fl (one of the 5 states) is the traditional rotating internship. They don't list where they are going PGY2.
At any rate, Nova is an excellent school and there are alot of fantastic reasons to want to go there, not the least of which is the gorgeous beach nearby 🙂
thats exactly what its like here..pretty much one test a week..where as other schools may have a Test week..where every day is a test..but those occur maybe every 1.5 months..
But having one test a week means there is less material right? I mean for that one test. Whereas if you have a test week it would be over everything you've learned for the past 1.5 months. Please correct me if I'm wrong. What do you think are some of the advantages of weekly testing?
It's not a test a week in every subject. For example, this Monday I have a physiology exam, next week its anatomy, the week after OPP, then Histo, then biochem, then phys, then anatomy. Then we get a little breather, lol. They call this stretch black october.

Nova's interviews are C.H.I.L.L. Just relax. A little late to go to the beach now, I guess. Anyway, tomorrow most of us are going to be dressed up. Don't be alarmed. That never happens unless we have to for some reason, and tomorrow's reason is because we have to go to our respective doctor's offices that afternoon(we go once every two weeks to practice history taking, physical exams, etc..) Good Luck.
Dressed up every two weeks? I was surprised when I received my interview packet...apparently the dress code there is slacks, dress shirt and a tie even in the library!? Maybe it's just me, but I've never taken classes or attended any school with a dress code before. Is this the norm for other med schools? 😕
