ok cool i'll just go ahead and do that then, how is your credit if you don't mind me asking? im a bit worried cuz i pretty much have no credit, i only just got my first credit card a month ago, luckily though i have no outstanding loans at all so hopefully there won't be any problems right?

I have good credit, and have been using credit cards for several years. You might need a co-signer because I think I remember reading that this is the case if you have not had an estabilished credit record for at least a year....but I'm not completely sure. Best wishes!

I just got my finanical packet too. Seems confusing...but I'll follow what you say ducksoup. Thanks.

Hi, what's the financial packet like? How long after the acceptance letter did you get it?

Thanx 😀

I got the FA packet 2 months after acceptance letter.

hi ducksoup,

if don't mind sharing, can you say who did u choose as your lender for stafford loans. trying to figure out who gives the best deal out there

I was accepted in dec and got my packet this past week.

I talked to a person from Financial Aid about 2 weeks ago and she told me that packages are sending out now.
But I haven't gotten mine yet.

I just got my packet, Im not sure i understand how the stafford loans work, am I going to be borrowing the stafford money from citibank or NYU? If all of it is fromm citibank does that mean after graduation I'm going to be sending one big check every month to citibank? Also does anybody know what happened to the HPSL loan? its not listed in my packet. Thanx

Stafford Loans come directly from the school, they will be subsidized or unsubsidized, you will not be able to get these from any other source. What ever the Stafford Loans (38,500 for whole 1st year) do not cover you will have to make up with a private loan from CitiBank, which is most of the tuition. Stick with CitiBank because of their excellent rates, but feel free to look at other bank private loans for Dental Students. There are other banks comparable to CitiBank like KeyBank's DEAL loans.

--Thanx for responding--
so if the stafford loans come from the school does that mean that every month (after grad.) i'm going to be sending my check to NYU, or will i be sending it to the fed. govt? also after i'm approved from citibank are they going to send me a check for 30,000, or are they going to be sending it to the school, which will then give it to me?

You'll be sending your check to the government for your Stafford loans. Private loans from Citibank will arrive at the school to pay your tuition bill, and after 2-3 weeks of starting your classes they will cut you a refund check for any difference. Because of this process it is important to come to school with some start-up money for the first few weeks.

Hi all,

I was wondering what were u told about the current situation of seats. Are they all filled or people are getting waitlisted. My brother interviewed recently and he was told that the school will get back to him in a few weeks. I was curious if u were told the same thing. 😕

I think I'm just going to buy an IBM from the school's store. I know there are cheaper laptops out there but they seem to fail more frequently, and my IBM thinkpad from back in HS is still ticking !

hey mvs...when you did your hep vac. how many were there and in what intervals. Thanks...I just got my packet this week and june 1 is right around the corner. thanks

they're 3 shots, you just have to have started the process prior to 6/1. There's a long gap (a few months) between the 2nd and 3rd shot I believe. I went to my doc to get it and then apaprently i had gotten them back in high school....

Usual dosing is 0, 1, and 6 months, so there's 3 shots all together.

My brother and I have opted for the IBM too. My dad had a ThinkPad that would never cease. I've also had the opportunity to fiddle with the new T43 and I must say that I'm more than satisfied with its performance, it's solid.

speaking of tech stuff...a PDA will be issued at orientation...are we really going to need it for first year? or is it of more use in 3rd and 4th year?

Hey, I just heard that I got into NYUCD about a week ago... yeah that late. I didn't even do an interview, and my DAT scores seriously SUCK. My GPA though rocks and the classes I took were tough and worthy like a year of biochem, a year of pharmacology (my major), genetics and a bunch of other sciences. So, about housing, I would like to live in the dorms on 26th street right next to the school, but I have still yet to recieve any information about housing from NYU. How long did it take to get the info pack? Oh yes and if there are any students going to NYU that are from California, please e-mail me so we can chat. My e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks.

RxTech since you're not the girl in the picture... (disappointment) who is she?!

I was also accepted late. My pack came this week, which was around 2 weeks after I sent them the deposit 😀

Hey Fruity Congradulations!

Anyway I don't know if any of you read the Columbia '09 thread, but we your uptown buddies would like to play you in a host of intramural sports over semester (years). Obviously this is highly informal, but how many would be interested??

A soccer Darby would be my first choice.....

hi
anyone want to meet up and look at apts with me near school in june. i want to find a 2 bedroom apt to share. i dont live far from nyc and i am in contact with real estate agents.
PM me and lets talk.

Hi everyone,

I'm headed to NYC on Tuesday to look for an apartment (I am hoping to move July 1...my wife got a research job so we need to get there ASAP). Anyway, I'll let you know how everything goes. Hopefully my experiences will be insightful for those of you in a similar position (i.e. a student with no income looking for a place to live in Manhattan).

Can't wait to meet all of you soon!

Does anyone know what the dress code is for D1's? I'm assuming we won't be wearing scrubs until our 3/4 years.

Do people dress up? Wear jeans?

just curious....

For the first week they require that it be business casually dressed....pants and a shirt for guys and the equivalent for girls.

After that, when classes start, you notice a gradual decline in the quality of dress. You can wear scrubs, jeans, t-shirt, sweats (although most ppl dont because it looks so un-professional). But its not really a big deal what you wear in 1st and 2nd year. Youre studying....they dont care.

But 3/4 year is mandatory either scrubs or formal dress in the clinics.

hey eveyrone.
thanks for the congrats..and yes i'm attending nyucd 😀

as for intramurals...bring it on...although i'd prefer a sport that's less physically taxing on my shoulder because i used to dislocate i a lot, although i play squash competively 😛...it's a long story...

soccer hasn't been my forte...but it's never too late.

hope to meet all you SDN nerds.. i'm one too! lol

what were you STATS?

STATS! haha are u excited about that word?..it's all in CAPS! lol j/k

@ the time i applied: ~3.27..18/18/21

I interviewed really late in May. Do you know the current status of the seats left. I see that you were waitlisted. Did u keep in touch with the admissions office after u were waitlested. Did they assure you about a seat. I believe the waitlist moves really fast starting May. I am also crossing my fingers.

I havenot recieved either an acceptance or waistist letter after my interview, not that I am waiting for a waitlist letter. My question is Do they automatically waitlist everybody who interviews really late or Should I still hope and knock on the wood for acceptance? :luck:

Hi,
I just went to the hesc website and signed my master promissory note that way (I think the letter said you could go to the website and check it out). Also, I applied for the citibank loan too, and it was really easy. Just go to the website that the letter provides for the citibank loan, and it is fairly easy. You'll also be given an answer (regarding your status) within a matter of minutes.

I figured it was better to go ahead and take care of it sooner rather than later.

Good luck!

Ducksoup, Did you have a co-signer? I have basically no credit so should I have my Dad to co-sign?

.. that they most likely waitlist nearly everyone that interviews, especially this late in the game

Hey,
If you don't have credit, you will probably have to have your dad sign. I am a non-traditional student (will be 27 when I start in August), so I have established some credit.

Good luck!

Somehow when i went to sign the e-MPN it has my name written wrong...so i tried to sign it with my correct signature and it wouldnt let me. I sent an email to them to see whats up. Just another pain in the ass. Also does it matter when we sign and fill out the loan stuff? Would it matter say if i did it this month or late next month?

Hello,

Have any of ya'll received a class roster? Just wondering...thanx

Hey, Congrats to all those who made it into NYU class of 2009! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I really want to go to NYU (It's actully my first choice - that sounds wierd, yeah, I know), but in reality, it is also probably the only school that I have a chance - my Bio GPA is 3.40, but everything else is around the 3.0-3.1 mark.

I would appreciate it if anyone could give me their STATS, so I can see where I fall! Thanks! 🙂

And Congratulations Again! Well done, and good luck Class of 2009!
WOOO HOOO! 🙂 🙂 🙂

sorry for the late response!! i don't know why i missed this one.
ok, i interviewed march 18th...and i know ppl got ACCEPTED after interviewing around that date...so during that period, it wasn't automatic waitlist.

i did NOT keep in contact with admissions, because i assumed i was NOT going to dental school for 2005 sept....nyu also doesn't tell u much over the phone...so i don't know how that helps.

i don't know if they automatically waitlist everyone....since spots are opening up and u're a SUPERB applicant, i don't see why they can't accept u right away..but those are just MY thoughts.

gdluck
