I've got a Garmin...I think it was like $120?? One of the lower end models. I've had it about two years. Works like a charm, fits easily my airport carry on bag, and has been dropped many times with no damage done.

We use Tom Toms at work, but I like mine better.

I've got a Magellan RoadMate. I don't know how much it cost since I got it for Christmas, but it works pretty well most of the time. I can be a little slow in recalculating a route if you pass where it wants you to turn. It also tried to get me lost in Kansas, but I hope that was a fluke (I still skim Google directions before going places so I've got an idea of right and wrong).

Garmin all the way! It may seem like a lot to fork out - but after you ditch your car in the middle of winter in the middle of nowhere - it will pay for itself when you can tell your tow truck company you're at --- and ---.

I have a 265WT which is a little fancier, it's my baby!

I have a Garmin Nuvi (don't remember which model) but it comes in handy for road trips and driving downtown.

I used a Garmin Nuvi 205 on the way to my Mississippi interview. It has basic voice turn by turn directions. It was really a life saver on that trip. Planning on getting one of my own in the next few months (used my parents' on the MSU trip).

You can get them for $89.99 on Amazon right now.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 755 which I got for $170 off Amazon, but you can get a 255 (which I had before the 755) for a lot cheaper than that (sub-100 a lot of the time).

They're great. I SUCK at directions and my GPS gets me every where. It got me from Kansas City to Ames, IA, and then from KC to Manhattan. It reliably directs me anywhere I want to go through Houston, and has an option to avoid toll roads as well (big bonus in Houston). I've never had it steer me wrong except for one area where it wants me to exit at a spot where there is no exit, but it just recalculates the path (takes about 4 seconds) and we're on the way again. Miss a turn? It just recalculates to tell you either to turn around, or just lays out a new route for you.

Can't speak highly enough about them.

I have a Garmin Nuvi (not sure which model, I'll post after I see it in my car).
It also has blue-tooth for hands-free calling, and an FM transmitter so I can load mp3 files on it to play on my car radio. I love it!!!

Got a Garmin Nuvi for Christmas, and love it! I found my way into downtown Philly and back all by myself, so I'd definitely say that it works. 😉

I have a Garmin 265WT and I absolutely hate it! It has brought me to dead end streets on numerous occasions (including the day of my Tufts interview)! I used to have a Magellan, which worked much better.
