Does anyone know if Loyola will be lenient with their LOR Requirements?

Well, they say that if you don't feel you can meet some of them (i.e., letter from each undergrad institution), you can write them a letter explaining so. Give them a call for other concerns -- today is Thursday, so it's a good day to ask.

Haha, I just called before you posted this, and you were right. They are lenient if you explain the situation, however, you have to call and explain everything and also submit a letter in writing with your application.

What's the deal with Northwestern? Is it, or isn't it, out? And for those who got it, is it working? I recall some mention of technical difficulties. Can someone post the secondary questions? Merci.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered already, but I couldn't find it, so my apologies in advance. 😳

I just got the GW secondary, and I was wondering what year people put for prereq's that they got AP credit for? On my AMCAS, I listed it as my freshman year, but I wasn't sure if that should apply for secondaries as well.

Thanks a lot!

No NU secondary here, yet.

To answer my own question, I just called NU. They said that they just sent out the first batch of secondaries yesterday, and that if they already have my primary app, I would be getting the secondary shortly. She looked me up and confirmed that I should receive the secondary very soon.

So, for an optional "explain a situation in which you were not in the majority" question, what do you think about writing about my experience on an alternative spring break trip, in which my friends and I traveled to a very rural, very poor area of Kentucky and were definitely in the minority being that we all had a roof to go home to at the end of the trip and were going to college and all that... I think I could turn it into a cohesive (and not hoity-toity) short essay (900 char) but it kind of seems like I'm using their poverty in the wrong way... I feel like this is like saying "I went to Africa and was the only college educated one in the village"... thoughts?

got NYMC today. easiest secondary ever. 🙂 I totally needed one of those.

Amen. I got spoiled by some early short ones. This was a much needed break.

For sure. Do you guys know if my advisor letter packet is the same as a committee letter? I tried to call the school but they were closed and I want to get this out asap. Thanks.

A committee letter is written by a pre-med committee at your school, so if you submitted a request to fill out a committee letter, you probably know about it, I would assume?

Just got an email from Howard Uni. which said that the secondary wont be available till Aug 15th.

Got NU just a few minutes ago, put the prompts on the thread.

how strict do you think the 25 line limit is on the loyola app because one of my essays is 27 lines!!

do you think the space between paragraphs counts as a line?!?!

The boxes cut you off, so when you go to preview it, you will be missing part of your essay.

Wow, I just noticed that too, I had assumed they meant 25 lines in the boxes, do you think they mean 25 lines in the preview?

i am doing lines in the preview because that is what they will read

because you have to print it out and send it in

Any word on drexel or stony brook?

haven't heard from drexel either.

can you send more than the 3 LOR's that NYMC asks for? I want to send another professor LOR (i know it says additional employer LOR ok).

In a similar vein, does anyone know if someone who has a committee LOR can take advantage of the one or two "optional" LORs for NYMC? In other words, would they accept a committee LOR + 1 additional employer LOR? Or is that only if you're sending individual letters in the first place, sans committee LOR?

I'm pretty sure it's ok. but call and make sure 🙂

I think it's fine to add an additional letter on top of the committee letter. Especially if its specific to the school, program, etc. I'm having my PI send a supplemental letter to the MD/PhD programs I'm applying to specifically addressing my research.

Hey Guys--

is anyone complete at Columbia yet? I havent heard anything but I sent my secondary, LOR, and picture in earlier this month. Thanks for the help!

i sent my stuff in a while ago as well and have not heard anything from them either.

I got an email saying that it was too early for status checks and they would start looking at applications at Columbia in late August. I also got an email saying they hadn't received my picture and I wouldn't be complete until then, so apparently they have started looking at files at least somewhat, even if they're not totally reviewing them.

can somebody please PM me with rush medical college's admissions phone number? i can't seem to find it anywhere and i've googled my heart out!

I called Baylor today to see if they ever received the optional photo that I sent by mail a month ago, and they did not. However, the woman I spoke to said not to bother wasting more postage, since they don't even see it when they review your file, and you may as well just bring it if you get an interview. She said that they're really on top of opening their mail (i.e., there's no pile of backlog). So, for those of you that haven't completed Baylor's online secondary yet, don't even bother sending in the optional by mail photo. She said that they have actually only received ONE photo this season so far, and that it has no impact on applications whatsoever.

Funny, but she mentioned that she remembered creating my application file, and hopes I get an interview. It means absolutely nothing, but still nice of her to say. Very nice admin staff there.

Interview invites will start to go out by email in about a month.

Which essay are you guys doing? The volunteer experience or the list + explanation of qualities?

I just got the UASOM secondary and am filling out but I kind of hit a roadblock. I am sure there are similar questions on other secondaries so if you can give me some advice that would be great. The question is: Is there anything you would like us to know about you that isn't listed on AMCAS?

While I am sure there is something I should write about I just can't seem to think of anything. I mean I listed all my activites, and said a whole bunch about myself in my PS so I don't really know what else to put.

I feel ya.. mine's been quiet for 2 days lol not fun

Ditto. I'm waiting to hear I'm complete at schools at this point, since the state schools I applied to are taking their sweet time sending out secondaries (but, to be fair, I'm fairly certain 2 of them screen).

Which essay are you guys doing? The volunteer experience or the list + explanation of qualities?

Congrats on the invite. 🙂

has anyone received any word from utmemphis yet, other than the "we have received your amcas app" email?

Received an e-mail yesterday, but it took almost a month after my amcas was verified (6/28). Yay for no essays and only $50!

IL Rant: Irked that I still haven't received NU's secondary. I know that they just started sending it out in batches a few days ago, but still. What's the rhyme or reason for who gets it when? I don't believe they screen. And I was verified on 6/6. I live a few blocks away from NU. Think if I call and heckle them my proximity will count for something? Hah. "But really, can't I just walk over and pick it up?" Ditto for Loyola. My MCAT score came out 10 days ago. Email me the secondary! Oh, wait, they send it by MAIL? It's like the dark ages. And I don't even want to talk about Rush. Their secondary doesn't even start to come out until July 31st. Why are IL schools so slow on the uptake? Jealous of people in states with med school admissions on the ball.

And of course, kudos to UofC, UIC and RFU for getting secondaries out promptly.

Does anyone know if receiving a secondary from UNC means that you will be interviewed? Their website and the email we received seem to conflict on this issue. The website seems to say yes, but the email maybe not.

hiya...

so has anything heard from einstein??

I received a call from them today but I was in lab so she says to call back on monday... I can't believe I missed it by five minutes...🙂 so I just have the whole weekend to freak out about what this call could be... I doubt they are calling for an interview...so I wonder what I did wrong with the app🙂....oooh the craziness starts now!!!
I think this application process reveals reveals hidden quirks in our personality...

Mel🙂

In-state, yes. Out-of-state, no. According to the website, anyway, only those invited for an interview in-state will receive a secondary. Since OOSers are in fiercer competition, that's not the case.

What did the e-mail say?

Dear Applicant,

The Office of Admissions has reviewed your AMCAS application and based on the strength of your credentials we are delighted to invite you to complete our web base supplemental application, which can be found at:

http://www.med.unc.edu/wrkunits/1dean/ome/admit/suppapp.htm

Please return the completed supplemental materials to the Office of Admissions within two weeks after receiving our email invitation. Your prompt response is appreciated.

Thank you for your interest in UNC School of Medicine. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions
UNC School of Medicine

So basically nothing that helps with determining my interview status...but I'm in-state so I have my fingers crossed. Just receiving the supplemental made me jump up and down though, so I'm quite excited!

It also says on the website that they'll contact you about an interview date 2-4 weeks after you submit your secondary. I assume they make it vague so that if people want to withdraw, they can (though after the screening process, I can't imagine many people wanting to withdraw).

As those of you who have applied know, NYU has no status page. I just received an email from them today saying that my file is now complete. I submitted the secondary on 7/19, with all LORs available via VirtualEvals download. Here's what they sent (not much in there):

Dear Applicant:

This will inform you that we have received all forms and credentials required to complete your application. The Committee on Admissions will notify you as soon as any final action is taken.

Thank you,
Admissions Office
NYU School of Medicine

Has anyone received info from UC-Irvine or UC-Davis indicating their primary has been received?

Hi..i just received the invite for Wake Forest's secondary..for those who have completed it, is there a word limit? I must have overlooked it.. appreciate the help!

They don't specify a word or character limit, but the instructions do contain the word BRIEF. I settled on a paragraph or two, I think it ended up being around 200-250 words.

yeah, mine ended being around 200 words. Thanks for the help =)
