My hotmail chose to crash at the worst time. I know... I know... Who still uses hotmail. I wish I could change to my gmail account. But I guess it's too late.

me too....looks like its a generic e-mail...may be its their version of "pre-rejection" message.

Seems as though season is going slow on the GI side. I've spoken to friends at other univ and the most iVs per individual is 4. Here in the northeast big programs have not even sent IV invites. My prog coord mentioned there are a lot of applicants this year. 😱

Is it quiet with everyone of just me?

So far 3 rej and no Iv.

IMG/ Greencard/ Grad 4 yrs ago from a Univ affiliated comm prog
5 pubs ( 4 case reports + 1 research - all first author)
Posters- 20+ ( mostly 1st author)

Not just GI, it is a slow season for Hem/Onc too. Prolly PCC is the busiest so far this year. There could be more applicants this year for many subspecialties because there are prolly still many unmatched applicants from last 2 years (there was that change in application cycle too).

It doesn't make sense though that more people want to go into subspecialties than ever before at a time when there are deep cuts to subspecialists and primary care reimbursements are going up! There will always be those who specialize because they love it, but that number can't be too much higher than before.

I did not apply this year to pay the bills for a year and am already getting offers in the 330k+ range with 20-40k sign-on bonus in the Northeast!! It's even higher in rural areas obviously.

330k+ for Internist/hospitalist in the northeast region seems confusing. Because pay is pretty low around that region.

Not at all! Tip: don't listen to recruiters or believe what you see on the Internet (those websites that list salaries). Of course, prolly not in Manhattan (I didn't look there), but 330+ is totally possible! I know a Hem/Onc in the 390+ range in a big city here and a GI further down this coast in the 330+k range. Ain't kidding!

I think once Obamacare takes full effect, IMs won't be getting all that much less than the specialists. Specialists in private practice are already freaking out and getting creative! 😉

Folks! Don't give up.
I made it from three interviews last year! The secret in fellowship is getting an "INTERVIEW" . Even one interview might be enough.

From a personal experience; what will get you an interview in a decent place is in this order: 1. AMG > 2. University Residency program > 3. LORs > 4. Research/Abstracts > 5. maybe USMLE scores!?. On my three interviews 1 & 2 were almost 90% accurate. You will be surprised you're meeting with some candidates again and again at different places.

To give you hope! I'm an IMG with basic research , Community/Univ base residency . And I made it to a decent University program in a major metropolitan city,

I was watching this forum few times a day last year and I was about to loose hope.

GOOD LUCK! 👍👍

Cleveland Clinic interview! Dates 9/16, 9/23, 10/3, 10/7

I think the major problem is we "IMGs from community hospitals" get filtered out just based on where we came from interms of med school and residency program. The secretary/coordinator who is reviewing our application does not go any further in your application if you dont meet her basic filtering criteria. For example, he/she will not see if your letter is strong or not, he/she will just see if you have 3 letters or not, he/she will not see if you published in NEJM but they will just look if have > 5 publications or not, and so on...

Been lurking around here for a while, but it's been so quiet this week, no interviews or rejections. I kind of expected things to start picking up by now.

Anyone get any invites or rejections this week?

I haven't heard anything. Looking at the updated list only 31 programs have sent interviews!!! I find this very hard to believe. Other specialties have more than 60 programs on their list. Is everyone posting their IVs and rejections?

NYU interview today. First NYC program I've heard from...

On my end, I haven't heard anything from any other programs as well...

Brigham Women's Boston IV today

University of Pittsburgh IV last week (not on list)

To add to the list of invites- SLU, University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin

I disagree, even if it's N of 1. Publications esp. 1st authors in big name journals (ie. Nature, NEJM, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, etc.) is weighed very favorably at my program, most likely leading to an interview, regardless of IMG status or community hospital residency. The question is how many people actually have these?

but is it a university program?....

Yeah, talked with Iowa last week and was told they were starting to review apps this week. When did you hear from Wisconsin?

Hey guys I have 6 interviews thus far for which I am very grateful, but I have not heard from any program since 1 week now. Is it too early in the season still or are we already past the peak of the interviews?

For those of us who dont have any interviews so far, is it over for this match?

Interviews are not over. Many programs are still reviewing. Hopkins has not sent out. I doubt BWH has sent out interviews I just spoke to someone couple days ago they are still reviewing.

Anybody care to rank NY and California programs.

No. A lot of people are taking vacation this time of year. If you don't have at least 1 interview by 9/1 then I would contact the top 3-5 programs you desire to go to.
