This is why I try to tell people who are in college to not underestimate how important your MCAT score is. It has the biggest impact on your entire application out of any 1 thing on your application.

Thats why I said its the largest PART of an application. Other stuff is obviously important. Idk what is going in your case.

Do you have an IA or something? Someone with a 37 MCAT and no interviews makes me think there is something glaring on your application. Maybe there is not. I have no idea.
 
Waitlist from my interview on 12/3.

Happy to have an II but wish it hadn't been from a school that waitlists almost all OOS applicants first 🙁

Well I have exactly 1 interview. I think it's the GPA though. Downward trend averaging to a 3.5 cumulative.
 
Nothing except for 1 MD II taking place in mid-January this cycle... It's rather sad to be at this point.

Yeah I felt the interview went really well and my interviewers made comments about my application (positive ones). I think this particular school just has a particular way they deal with OOS applicants, which is fine. Hopefully will hear good news later on!

And I am excited as well, especially since rejections have been coming out at all of my schools

Your right but I cant leave this thread..alot of us dont have many or some not even one..but I like to see that some of us are getting them even if just one or two..and lending support to each other..and 2 interviews can turn into 2 rejections and 2 wait lists so easily.

Does this school take people off the wait list? If so, great!

Just want you guys to hang in there. I remember how antsy/scared I was before I heard back, so I cannot imagine what the prolonged wait does to the body and the mind. Remember, all it takes is 1 school, 1 II, and 1 Acceptance! :xf:

Guys I'm so worried that I won't get in this year. I'll apply to DO next year but I'm worried I won't get into a good DO school as well 🙁. Do you guys think a 3.5 and 37 is good enough for a Canadian applicant for DO schools in good locations like PCOM, Turo-Harlem, or Western?

probably. DO schools dont seem as preferential towards domestic residents as MD schools seem to be.
 
I have a question for you guys. I'm really worried that I'm not going to get in this cycle (worried enough that I actually made an account instead of just lurking like I normally do). I have a 3.9 and a 32 with a lot of research experience, I shadowed a pretty decent amount, but I haven't had enough time to commit to volunteer at the hospital near my school. I volunteered at a hospital every summer when I was in high school though, and I have some other non-medical volunteer experience. I also have a bunch of extracurriculars with leadership positions. All of my applications were complete by July 17th (and it wasn't just to top schools, I applied to a really wide range). I feel like I did everything I was supposed to do, so I don't understand why I don't have anything. Any suggestions for what I can do better if I need to reapply next cycle?

Just doing a quick 30 sec glance, I would say clinical experience actually caring for someone (like working with people in clinical setting, being a care attendant in a nursing home or with those with disabilities). Some ideas: volunteer with special olympics, homeless, or an underserved area that need a lot of help and you are passionate about. Disclaimer: I am also a current applicant and am not on any adcoms... I have just read a TON of sdn threads.

It's really hard to say without knowing the list of schools you applied to. Do you think you had a strong personal statement telling your story? What about good LOR's? I agree with @robin911 should you need to reapply next year I would up your volunteering - local free clinics are also an excellent place to gain some volunteer experience. If you are a current senior in college and would then be taking a gap year, consider getting a job in a more clinical setting such as a medical scribe perhaps.

It's probably lack of clinical experience. Any experiences done in high school that weren't continued in college aren't even considered by adcoms.

Edit: by clinical experience I meant clinical volunteering, sorry.

How were your LORs and interviewing skills? Also, your app seems to be a bit light on recent clinical volunteering.

I have very similar stats and pretty similar experiences - but I have done recent clinical volunteering. Like others have said, recent clinical exposure is key to showing that you are interested in working with patients. I thought that I would be able to do pretty well this cycle, but so far haven't heard anything good whatsoever except from one school (albeit, I am extremely grateful for that). It could be that you have some other kind of red flag on your app - maybe your letters of rec were lukewarm. For me, I suspect that it was my personal statement. The cycle's not over yet, but you have some things to think about should you need to reapply, and you could always contact receptive schools at the end of the cycle for constructive feedback.

I would go so far as to suggest that lack of recent clinical exposure is a red flag. Depending on the 2015 pool, this could be quite a downer on your app even assuming everything else is decent.

Yes, bunch of OOS waitlist movement on May 1st so it's not like a silent rejection. And they also rejection post interview frequently.. So all good signs!

Yeah I would basically agree with what has been said. Barring some sort of weird red flag on your part (like a bad letter of rec or some very egregious spelling errors throughout your personal statement) I would put all of the blame on your lack of clinical experience. Based on what talking to someone high up in admissions at a very prominent school told me, things you did in high school do not matter unless they continued throughout college. That goes doubly for clinical experience in that it is the most important part of your application aside from stats and completion date. Without a good amount recent clinical experience, you will not even get a look at most schools, nor will you have good enough experiences from which to pull when writing your essays for the most part. Best of luck to you on this cycle, but if things do not pan out your way at least you have a very simple problem to solve when reapplying. Much better than a low GPA or MCAT!

Im sorry about your wait list...But you still have a chance. I hope UCONN gives you one soon. I only had one invite from a bunch of my instate schools which is annoying. We are still alive at alot of places..lets pray!! I completed both my II's I dont expect to hear anything until Feb. 🙁....we really need II's for all the nice people in this thread!!!

I'm hoping Creightin sends out their next batch of II soon because the admissions guy that reviewed my app said I had a good chance at an interview. Fingers crossed.

I have a question about UCONN, I didn't apply there this cycle but if this post-secondary rejection trend continues for me, I will be applying there next cycle...Anyway, both of my parents went there for undergrad and I have a lot family that lives in the area. I would be an OOS applicant, but I was curious if UCONN was one of those schools where on the secondary they ask if you have family who went there or lives there? Not sure if you would remember that, but I figured I would ask!

Haha true. I have half or so that I expect to hear something from, but the remaining ones could easily be silent rejections. I still remember my joy being saved from Brown/Stony/GWU/NYMC rejection waves, but in the months/weeks of silence since, my joy has faded. So it goes! It's only Tuesday. Yay?
 
I'm scanning these rejections so closely for IS vs OOS, complete date etc its not even funny. One of the schools that I thought I escaped a rejection for( I hope I still have,haven't heard anything yet), I just realized that the II's are passed my complete date but the rejections are not passed my complete date ( IS), they are passed my complete date for OOS applicant rejections. I am IS. I need to get a life,ignorance is bliss.

I'm in a similar boat. 519 mcat, 3.9 gpa, one interview invitation in home state and silence from 7 others. I completed fairly late, late sept/early October, but I don't think I can chock up the silence to that any longer...
