Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just make sure that you've done all you can. Grad school, post-bach courses, get to know your home admissions people. Leave it all out on the field.
I did grad school, I have so much research, I have so many volunteer activities, I did EVERYTHING. Like, if I don't get in this cycle, I have NO idea what else I can do to improve my application besides retake the MCAT. Getting to know our state (for New York) admissions people doesn't do ANYTHING. I know for other states it does, but NY is so huge, and honestly, it's really annoying because even though NY should be taking their own state applicants, they end up taking a lot of out of state applicants as well (those with higher stats probably), while other states really focus on their state applicants(even if they have lower stats).

I'm not in NY but I remember looking at MSAR, getting excited seeing I was above the averages for some certain schools, and then seeing that they accept ~90% in state. And then thinking "why doesn't my state do that!?"

I just thought the same thing! ( just got off of MSAR 10 minutes ago looking at the data and graphs for New York).

Well you're doing it right. If it doesn't happen this year I'd sit down and apply to all the DO programs that you meet the grade and mcat criteria for. Literally...all of them. Then filter through MD schools that you feel you fit the mission and values and have a relatively decent chance at getting in. I didnt have a stellar undergrad and that's how I had to overcome it.

Ever consider PA or DNP? Like I said earlier I got into PA school (applied because I didn't think med would work out)
I applied to DO and am just waiting to hear back. My stats are really great for DO, and if I get in, I am going cuz at the end of the day, a doctor is a doctor. I know we ALL want the MD, don't get me wrong, I even do, but I am also tired of all these rejections and not knowing what else to do. I don't want to do PA or DNP. I definitely want to be a doctor, and MD or DO, I shall be one =)

In your off year get an apartment in Texas, become a resident, and presto! haha
I actually know someone who is doing that lol. She wanted to leave the cold, got a job in Texas for a year, becoming a resident this year, and applying this year for the incoming class of 2017 for med school. her advantage is of getting texas and AAMC schools!

Perhaps this is the problem. Similar to how people are more likely to identify with and prefer a superhero with a particular niche or characteristic they like, maybe your robust app, while awesome, also makes it hard to understand what makes you unique.

Just trying to offer another perspective. Maybe you DID theme your app to something like geriatrics or deep sea fishing or whatever.

Thanks for the perspective, but my application is really unique. Didn't theme my application to be any way at all, but I do understand where you're coming from.

Keep the faith. Fourth year applicant here. Got four interviews this year (1 is auto interview if you live in the state) 2 acceptances and waiting on the other two to tell me if I'm in or not. So technically this year is the first year I've ever gotten an interview that I've earned. Don't give up. It's been a long three and a half years, but it's all coming together now.
If you don't mind me asking, what changes did you make on your application for this cycle?

Starting to feel very stressed out that these silences could just be rejections :\ UGH THE PAIN

Occasionally some of the schools will allow phone calls for status updates. Not necessarily what the decision is, but may let you know whether or not they've made a decision on your application and if you haven't gotten an interview and they've made a decision, you probably know what the decision is. One of my schools surprised me with an unintended status update when I called to ask about something else.

Hmm thanks,

I've recently called most of the schools about sending in an update which I did earlier this week (Monday) and they all seemed to have received it by now. I guess I will wait till next week to call to give em a chance to look at my letter? All you did was ask for a status right?

I saw on this school's website that they said it would take up to 8 weeks to determine if you were going to get an interview. It had been longer so I asked if that meant anything. The person I spoke with, then looked up my status.

I probably wouldn't ask directly for status, but maybe something about their application process that might help clear something up for you.

I've been waiting since like 9/14, no hold or rejection

Take that as a potential good sign for Albany. I got put on hold, and they only consider holds after they've reviewed everyone else for II and have found they did not interview enough people. And apparently some people have been rejected pre-interview already so that's something.

Even more silence for me 🙁

no news = better than rejections guys it stinks getting these rejections like no tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that. How many? And how many schools do you need to hear back from? I just called a school for an update and they told me that they "see the same thing I do." Thanks a bunch, that really helps.

Rejected Upstate..post interview..IS..been a bad 2 days...

Eliminated from Rochester

Not too much of a loss because I hear they don't have recorded lectures

I'm sorry. I haven't even heard a word from any SUNY yet. No II or anything
better to hear nothing from any suny than rejections. the last sunys I have left is buffalo and downstate, but I don't even think downstate is going to give me an II cuz they wont look at my new MCAT score since it was taken a week after their cutoff date 🙁

I'm sorry doc, any more interview invites that you currently have / did you learn anything from the interview as to why maybe you got rejected (not trying to rub salt in the wound, I am just trying to see if this is something you can learn from and use it on your next interview that you'll get this cycle!)

I have 10 rejections already without any II invites. I still have around 15 more to hear back from, minus four, so make that 11. (Minus four because one school is a reach, GW is holding me for re-review, VCU I still haven't heard back from yet on giving me a secondary, and SUNY Downstate won't look at my new MCAT score cuz its a week past the date of the scores they take.) So about 12 schools.

This process is horrible. I haven't heard anything from Albany. No II or hold or anything. Just like the other 10 schools
better to not have heard from Albany, they can invite you for an interview later in the cycle. My friend got invited in March and was accepted on April Fools Day, so keep hope!

I was put on hold for them today. I'll keep my fingers crossed for us that people withdraw from interviews due to recent acceptances elsewhere! I guess it's better than waking up to a rejection. I reviewed my secondary for them today and was like "oh yeah, they're the app I struggled the most on".

Yeah I got put on hold like, immediately. I found it so strange that they were able to make an almost immediate decision but not a strong enough decision to either II or reject me.

When were you complete, if you don't mind me asking? Out of all the secondaries I wrote, Albany's was the only one that I felt comfortable being whimsical with. I'm quite curious to see if it paid off.

I was complete very late. Like I would say early November. I was fine with their questions I just felt like they were asking similar things with each question. Plus I always had a problem with the apps with small character limits haha.
