Hi Guys,

Anyone willing to swap
1. Georgetown university
2. Medical college of Georgia
3. MUSC
4. Uni of New Mexico
5. Uni of Miami

Interview dates? Please inbox me. I am having a major scheduling conflict and any help would be really appreciated.

Just perusing the thread from last year and the year before and saw that a lot of the universities that were giving interviews to visa holders are not this year. Trying to figure out if it is just me not having any luck or does it extend to other people? Appreciate everyone's responses so far and I wish all of you the best of luck !

What visa ru on?...I am on h1b and certainly feeling that way

I'm on a J1 visa. I was really hoping I would have had at least four interviews by now. Been at two for the last three weeks. No signs that it is gonna improve any time soon.

Hmm..interesting to find out what the criteria is..hows your profile like?..

Still patiently waiting. US IMG at mid tier university program with decent amount of research and still sitting at 3 interviews. Hoping it starts to pick up soon.

So I am a US DO, at a university program middle tier, decent research, I am currently at 4, also starting to worry but from what a lot of people tell me is that within the next few weeks and throughout September people are going to be cancelling interviews as they get tired and decide that theyve done enough or other conflicts that affect them from going on any more. I was honestly told that you might get interviews with literally a week or 2 turn around to arrange for travel. So keep your head up, they will come, it just may be last minute!

I have spoken to few faculty members of fellowship programs.According to them they still consider high USMLE scores as one of the important criteria in granting an interview. Ofcourse every program is different and some programs might not give weightage to USMLE scores. But I am personally surprised that fellowship stage too USMLE plays such a big role.I know couple of USIMG who were out of residency for 5-6 years with solid USMLE scores(250's) and minimal research(no publications) getting 9-10 interviews and matching at good places. It sought of puzzles me that even at fellowship stage, usmle scores matter so much.

So now the cycle has been going on for a month between talking to people and researching programs is that there are big programs (>5-7 fellows) and smaller programs (<5-7 fellows). Big programs are generally high-powered research institutions and often proportionally receive more applications (400-500 for a big program and 200-300 for a small program). When you have 400-500 applications, every part of your application that gets screened needs to be strong (scores, residency program, MG status, overall research productivity) to make it through the initial filter otherwise you'll just get filtered out because they can only afford to invite at most 20% of the people that apply (it looks like most programs interview 6-12 candidates per position). As such, scores really matter here because you can't afford for any part of your initial screen to be weak because they can simply take the people who have the whole package. For smaller programs, I think having every single component of this initial screen be perfect matters less because there are fewer applicants (the ultra-competitive candidates looking nationwide probably didn't apply to these programs and thus they attract a more "local" crowd) and they don't need to filter as much; thus if you have some shortcomings you can still make up for them at the interview stage.

That said, I highly doubt there's a difference between 230, 240, or 250. It's probably something simpler like >220 or <220. Also, the stronger the other components of the application are (assuming the score filter is passed if there's one), clearly the better chance one still has at getting through to the interview. Therefore, if one is coming from a smaller residency program or have minimal research, then really can't afford to have low scores.

Did the program coordinator from MUSC confirm interview date for anyone? I haven't received a reply from her for the date I asked for on 8/20.

you should be able to confirm under the interview section in myeras

Doh. Totally missed that. Were there originally more than one date to choose from?

I just noticed it. The only date available was the one they offered me. I did not get a choice of dates from the program

Yeah I couldn’t attend the date they offered me and requested another date and haven’t heard back

Appreciate it, bro.

Same here about requesting an alternate date. My experience with other programs has led me to expect a slow turn-around time. Most eventually got back to me within a week. I went ahead and just clicked the schedule for 9/21 a few mins ago, just to have a solid date while I wait.

Hi, anyone got an interview from Oklahoma University? I'm scheduled for September 21 and would like to switch it to a later date if some is interested in that date. Thanks

Hi Kash_711

If you don’t mind sharing the date of ur MUSC interview? I am looking for someone to swap my sept 28 interview.

Anyone has an interview at SUNY downstate on Sep 28? Mine is on the 21st if anyone wants to switch.

Which of these programs would you guys cut off your interview list? Are any of these programs clearly stronger or weaker in solid tumor research than the others?

MDanderson
Moffitt
Vandy
Duke
NIH
UMichigan
UChicago
Mayo
Roswell
OSU
UPenn
Yale

Hopkins
CCF

Do you mind putting those programs/dates on the list? I see several that aren’t listed.

It seems that research is a large driver in your decision here based on the way you worded this post. If thats the case than mentorship and research opportunities at the particular programs in the areas you are interested in should drive a lot of how you think of the program. Geographical preference and specific tumor interests (i.e lung vs GI vs GU, etc) are also probably important for you. It will depend on how many interviews you want to and are able to go on as well.

Personally, I would drop: Mofitt, Vandy, UMichigan, UChicago, Roswell, OSU, Yale, and CCF.

IMHO

Tier 1. Anderson = Hopkins = Penn (Penn is more competitive than the other 2)
Tier 2. Yale = Chicago
Tier 3. Vandy = Michigan

Don’t know much about Duke.

NIH is phase 1/basic science oriented with weak clinical training.

CCF, Moffitt, OSU, Roswell are not particularly strong. Mayo is very clinical with limited research time compared to the other big name programs.

I'm slowly giving up. Honestly don't know what to do anymore.
Foreign grad, don't need visa, good steps scores - 240/250, PGY-3 at community university affiliated program, few publications (all basic science cancer research in top journals), bunch of poster presentations at AACR and ASCO (first author), doing basic science research at top cancer center, a bunch of case reports - all heme/onc, everything done during residency.
Got 1 interview so far, 3 rejections. Have heard nothing from other programs and judging from the posts so far, most programs I applied to sent out interviews.

How many programs you applied? My feeling is IMG+community program is a big red flag.

Is anyone interested in swapping U Miami (9/7) and Mayo Rochester (9/22) interviews?

I'm slowly giving up. Honestly don't know what to do anymore.
Foreign grad, don't need visa, good steps scores - 240/250, PGY-3 at community university affiliated program, few publications (all basic science cancer research in top journals), bunch of poster presentations at AACR and ASCO (first author), doing basic science research at top cancer center, a bunch of case reports - all heme/onc, everything done during residency.
Got 1 interview so far, 3 rejections. Have heard nothing from other programs and judging from the posts so far, most programs I applied to sent out interviews.
Very solid profile my friend...Not sure if community program training will cause so much impact - I doubt(yes some impact but I would have expected more interviews)...How were your letters?..Do you think any problem with them?...how many programs did you apply?...since you did not get rejections for lot of programs...may be you are on wait list...may be you will get few more during coming weeks.
