Official 2019 Step 2 CK Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats!!! Awesome work!

I'm hoping I have the same mentality when I take it in a few days lol. Any last minute tips/things to look at or do for my last few days? My practice scores were similar to yours so I'm hoping I'll be able to crush it like you!

It’s nothing like UW so just do your best, and forget the rest.

Basically trust your scores and your prep

I wonder why it felt like there was such a disconnect between Uworld information and what was actually tested on the exam.

Questions were reasonably similar, but I felt like UW gave you 2 possible answers with one that clearly stood out. The real thing was like 3-4 reasonable answers without a clear favorite

Everyone said this going in, and I think knowing it screwed with my head on test day.

I ended up focusing too much on the distractors rather than just picking my instinctive response

If you read their own internal documentation they claim you should be able to come up with the answer without even looking at the choices

On uworld it's easy to reason through why all the distractors are wrong. On the real thing better to just pick what you initially thought even if looking at the answer choices raises doubt

So basically do exactly the opposite of what you would do in real life i.e. act without being certain

Where is says registration? I'm not sure, but I think mine has said that for a while. Would be nice to get it tomorrow though.

Mine shows this as of this wk. I spoke to a friend who took it the same date as you in another state and he says that his registration still looks like yours.

Looks like you might be getting it tomorrow. I've heard people say they got their scores when print permit went away. Good luck tomorrow!

Maybe I'll get mine next week.

Yes , I’m so afraid that I failed it .. why it’s coming out so early ? Is it really related that when permit disappears that the results are coming out ? 🙁
I think everyone feels like they failed it. You probably did fine! And now I have no idea. Seems cruel to make me wait two months while someone gets theirs in two weeks. Not that I hope you don't get it!

Edit: And I'm totally not refreshing the USMLE website every 10 minutes hoping my permit disappears.

I totally get what u mean , it wouldn’t be fair at all .. but no result there yet , we just have to wait . Maybe it is not coming out tomorrow who knows ?

Still gonna check my email 15 times tomorrow
Hey sorry my apologies , I just searched what does permit disappearance means exactly . Cause In my case I can’t open the link says “permit is not available “ . but what everyone is explaining is that the link should disappear . So no worries I don’t think it’s coming out TMW! Sorry again

I took CK at the end of July. As I am waiting for the results at the end of Aug, I have become increasingly worried in the past week. I know it is a common feeling that most folks feel like they fail after they take the test (but most still turn out ok when the scores come in). But my problem is not that I felt I failed. Quite the contrary, I felt it wasn’t that bad as I walked out of the center. Now that I think about it, maybe that’s because I screwed up so bad that I didn’t even know I messed up. Anyone who felt ok with the test and scores fine at the end?

Wow I literally had the same feeling as you did. I felt fine throughout the exam and also afterwards. Then I spent the next 4-5 hours looking up the questions I remembered and getting A LOT wrong (so far I'm pretty sure I missed 20+ questions). Officially worried that I screwed myself over as well...

I guess you could say that makes this a common...reaction?

Took the exam yesterday. Was very exhausted but didn't feel as bad as with Step 1.
Non-US IMG studying in Australia, had a low Step 1 (low230s) hoping to match anaesthesia this year.

Total pre time: 3 months with no dedicated. On rotation for the entire time.

Resources:
- 1 round of Uworld only - 73% average untimed tutored system over the course of 1 year after my Step 1 last June.
- Uworld incorrect for only OB/GYN, surgery and paediatrics .
- Reviewed my own Uworld notes twice (205 pages)
- MTB2, MTB3, Secrets selected chapters.

Self-assessments:
- UWSA1: 250 (4 weeks out)
- NBME 7: 235 (3 weeks out)
- UWSA 2: 260 (1.5 week out)
- Free 120 right after UWSA 2: 83% (1.5 week out)

Test day experience:
- Overall felt like a mix of NBME 7 and UWSA 2. Long questions were longer than Uworld, and short questions were only 3-4 sentences/incomplete clinical pictures or testing very specific knowledge.
- 2 blocks of 38 questions, no drug ad questions but got 2 abstracts. They were pretty easy once you know what they are actually asking- similar to Uworld.
-Biostats were not too bad. Uworld covers it all. Had 1 per block I think?
- Theres this new questions format: it's like a discharge or admission summary, super long and detailed but organised.I'd suggest reading the HPI only and then jump straight to the question. I've never seen those before!
- Yes, immune deficiencies, lysosomal storage disorders were heavily tested.
- ID: Sketchy micro is not enough. The presentations were atypical, and the images were not the usual ones you can find in most study resources. Honestly I'm not sure how to prep for this...
- 3 auscultations , lots of x-ray and CT. Yes know your abnormal heart sounds and chest sounds.
- Some of the diseases were not included in any of the resources, including Uworld. I got them correct only because I rotate at an academic tertiary hospital and go to medical grand rounds....
- I took break after each block. Fatigue kicked in by block 7. Eyes were blurry.
- Didnt have time to review any questions. 1-2 minutes left for most blocks. Randomly clicked at least 4 questions in some of the blocks 🙁

Tips:
- If you can take Step 2 right after Step 1, do it! Got at least 10 questions on specific pathology findings, genes and inheritance patterns.
- Uworld covers 60-70% of the knowledge base.

Counted at least 15-20 questions wrong. Any chance I could score >250???? Will update my score when it comes back in 3-4 weeks. Hopefully I can have my report back before Sept 15th!

I think (with the disclaimer that I’m also waiting on my score) that you’re definitely still able to make it over the 250 mark. People have counted 20 wrong and ended up with 270 sometimes, it’s not linear relationship.

Also, come join in the anesthesia app thread!

This is literally exactly how I felt.

I did fine (depending on how your standards are)

Did anyone here studying for CK notice how much overlap there is between CK and step 1 in the cardiology section?
Sometimes I feel like I’m studying for step 1 all over again.
Is it going to be same in the real deal?

Thanks 🙂 already posted under that thread

Hey y'all. Just want to complain to the internet that it's incredibly scary to be getting a score on Aug 28 that could undo everything entered into my ERAS app right now.

Can someone potentially make me feel better about the contingency of "what if Step 2 CK score is terrible but Step 1 is OK".

I just can't get over how difficult that test felt to me.

I think it depends. What specialty are you applying to? And what is your Step 1 score?
