~Official "It's Thursday, I Should Call for a Loyola Status Check" Thread~

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm currently under review again. :scared:

UJ Hopefully they pull both of us out, and we can interview together😀👍...

...How great was the first 55 minutes of that game last night...Jerry Sloan coached players and Steve Nash's face just simply can't get along

Ha, that would be hilarious. Especially since they only interview a few people per day.

Please don't remind me about last night's game... or any of the last 5 for that matter.

Has anybody who has been flagged for further review before the end of the year call today??

I just called and now they are saying that I will be reviewed again after the new year. Before they said that I was flagged for further review before the end of the year... 🙁

I think they have a magic eight ball by the phone system and whenever we call they just shake it and read us the answer.

I wouldn't sweat it brosef...I just called them about an hour ago and they told me the same thing. I probed a bit more and the lady said that they actually did review us already these past 2 weeks or so, and we're gonna continue to be reviewed when they come back from break...I didn't hear the word rejection peppered in the conversation, so I wouldn't freak out + they're known for really grinding through these packets:luck:

I also was told that I'd be reviewed after the first of the year. I just called and they told me that nothing has changed with regards to my status, and that I'll probably be reviewed close to the end of January. I hate waiting, but the guy was really nice and if you're curious at all it can't hurt to call.

Anybody call today?

Plenty of people called; Are they going to post about it on SDN...I dunno. I felt quite bad for the office staff today, they seemed really frazzled by the end of the day.

I spoke to a woman who was also very nice. She told me they will be making decisions the week of Jan 21st and to call back after that week if i don't hear from them.

i was complete in mid november, and I called today and they said i am marked for further review and I should hear back during the first part of february...and if not to call back.

i dont like the sound of "further review"

I did too 🙄

All week I wait in anticipation for Thursdays. And it helps because both of the people who answer the phone are SO nice, even though I think there must be a bajillion phone calls on this day.

Before break, I was flagged for further review after Jan 1st and if don't hear back by mid-Jan then call them. Now... I'm still under review, if I don't hear back in a couple of weeks then call back.

I'm going to sit on my hands not to call next week. BUT hopefully maybe perhaps I wont be in this predicament of whether or not to call.... if you know what I mean, in a good way!

Loyola 😍

Who's the director of admissions at loyola?

Also, is the schools official name Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago or just Stritch School of Medicine??

are all of these posts referring to getting an interview or a post interview decision?

The website seems to suggest "Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine" but all the abbreviations are "SSOM" (Stritch School of Medicine) so I don't think anyone will mind if you use either of them.

NJDIF - I'm under the impression that everyone is talking about interview invites (just because they tell you when you'll hear back during the interview itself).

so here is a list of loyola's staff....

http://www.meddean.luc.edu/depts/camplife/handbook/directory.htm

which one is the director of admissions or should I just address the letter of interest to the dean ?

I'm not sure who the director of admissions is, but the Chairman of the Admission Committee is Dr. Jonathan Muraskas ([email protected]). He was one of my interviewers and seemed to be a big figure in the whole process, so you could address it to him if you can't find the Director's name.

Ladonna Norstrom is the dean of admissions. Apparently she reviews every single applications submitted. In addition two other staff are assigned to review your file.

I tried calling Ms. Norstrom to see if perhaps there was anything on my application that had brought up a red flag that I could explain, and to talk to her about how badly I want to go there, but it went straight to SSOM office of admissions; so I talked for a while with Rosemary. Rosemary was very helpful and sweet and said she would pass on my deep interest to Ms. Norstrom.

A number of Loyola students and the admissions staff told me to address the letter to the admissions committee, since the dean wouldn't be the only person to read the letter. But I've heard some other people say to address it to Ms. Norstrom. I ended up addressing mine to the admissions committee.

As other people mentioned, a number of names seem to be OK--Loyola, Stritch, Stritch School of Medicine, etc. Personally, I usually refer to the school as Loyola.

Also, is your letter of interest a pre or post-interview letter? If it's a post-interview letter, I'd send copies to your intereviewers as well, in addition to Ms. Norstrom.

Good luck with your letter.

Where did you get this info from? I'm just curious...

Thanks Misty!

KCT15, I got the info that Ladonna Norstrom reviews every application and that two other admissions people are assigned to your file from a current Loyola student who talked with the admissions staff (the people we talk to almost every Thursday!)

Thanks for the info. I was courious because Dean Norstrom checked on my file for me. I got the same...you've been reviewed, will be reviewed again...

I don't think you can actually speak with Dean Norstrom unless she is actually expecting your call.

I think you're right about that--she's awefully busy. I'm sure lots of students want to talk to her and plead their cases and if she talked to everyone, the poor lady would never get work done. But when I tried calling her I thought, "Who knows? maybe there's a small chance she'll be available and chat." I think I've heard at least one person say they talked with her on the phone, but I think it might have been later in the spring.

I heard that when she stands in front of a mirror, you can't see her reflection.

Guys, don't forget to call them tomorrow.
Why thursdays anyone knows? maybe the adcom meets on every wed and the status is updated on thursday for you to check.

when i interviewed, they said my app would be reviewed 1/7, which was monday.

i am starting to get nuts for the mail to come.

mine's up for review again sometime in February. I guess that's better than never again, right?

So they said my review is 'complete' but has been flagged for further review. I'm supposed to call in another few weeks. I keep imagining a manila folder with my name on it with an eight foot flag sticking out of it with the words "REVIEW FURTHER" written on it.

When/how do they send out actual rejections? Mail? Email?

Any help would be great.

I just called and got the same thing told to me. They told me that if I haven't heard anything from them by the 1st week of February, to give them a call :scared:

Best of luck to you all!

gonna be re-reviewed....🙁...pooh!

Reviewed, up for review again in February 🙁

There was an adcom meeting on 1/7, and the next one is on 1/28.

Thanks neuroprotector. I don't know how you got that information, but that is good to know. I also called today and was told that I will be reviewed again between now and February.

I called....

I will be reviewed again between now and the end of Feb, if I am to be invited for an interview I will be contacted by phone.

Sigh... must be patient...
😍

Been reviewed, gonna be reviewed again in February. Call again if I don't hear anything by the end of February. Blegh.

Two Qs.
Does anybody ever get an interview by calling to check on status? It seems as though whenever you call they just kick you around til next month.

What was the number for checks?
Thanks.

I also gave them a call for my app status today- it's up for review in Feb *sigh*

Well I just called.. my file has been reviewed, and it MIGHT be reviewed again between now and the end of APRIL. 🙁

Mine is still under review, but just for the first time because it wasn't complete until a week or so ago! They couldn't find a rec letter, so sad...

anyone who interviewed christmas week, we were reviewed on monday.

anyone get a letter yet?

I'm with you on that, man. What's the point of calling? Perhaps to find out if you have been selected for an interview but they have failed to contact you?

I suppose. I think it's weird that they tell us to call back but it doesn't seem to do anything... If I were them, I'd just say the flagged for further review thing and leave it at that...
