Yes, the miraculous paradox of podiatry:

Podiatry = ultra easy to get accepted... hard AF to get a decent job afterwards.

MD, DO, CRNA, = hard AF to get into... good jobs abound for grads.
 
Well it goes to show you can move out to bear country and still get a low-paying job offer
 
For a medical pedicurist in the suburbs of Philadelphia, $20/h is pretty low. It's one thing if they're working in a salon. It's another thing if they're working in a doctor's office where--whether we like it or not--the lay public will have higher expectations of the person doing the care. You would need someone who is going to take accountability for the work they're doing and has the organizational skill to show up on a scheduled basis--not guaranteed for $20/h.

It's analagous to how legal secretaries get paid a lot more than other secretaries. At a glance they're doing the same general work, but legal secretaries are responsible for much more sensitive information, so law firms pay higher salaries to retain individuals who know how to handle that info responsibly.

This is why I'm very much in favor of foot care nurses and I believe they should be able to bill insurance. Otherwise the economics don't work out. The amount you have to pay a pedicurist to treat patients in a clinical setting (consistently, conscientiously) doesn't offset what people would be willing to pay out of pocket for nail care.

What a confidence boost for the inaugural LECOM podiatry students who just started a year ago. I wonder how they are spinning it to them.

I think these pod school dean and faculty jobs will be posted more and turned over and more frequently in the coming years. I would be pretty uneasy sitting in most of those seats right now. We are basically 10 or 20 years behind the pharmacy schools' glut and then break point and then pullback.
