Not that they'd consider a DPM... but probably a better job/fellowship - and better compensated (real benefits) - than half of podiatry associate jobs. :unsure:

Better overall compensation than the job posted right before it when benefits are considered. And travel…Mineral Wells and Arlington are 70 miles away from one another. All for $120k as an associate in a podiatry group lol

To be fair if the employer does not list a salary some job sites estimate it themselves because adds with salaries (even low ones) get more responses. Then other job sites copy it from the other job site that estimated it etc. Probably what happened with these random numbers.

So this might be what AI thinks an associate podiatrist is worth.

Which brings up another discussion is associate pay so low that they are afraid to even list it and would rather discuss “potential” in person?

Correct: You just get a place to do the work with those time consuming pts not clogging your wait room, less wheelchair damage to your office and more nursing/suupplies help.

You just bill what you do if you're PP. Most of them waive copays as nearly all pts are either MCR/MCA or 'financial hardship.'
If you are hospital employ, WCC might be a place to dump your difficult pts (somewhat) onto nurses.

They will almost surely expect HBO refers, rep lunches, other nonsense in return for WCC staff/space/supplies. Expect that. They obviously charge facility fees, but they want the big $$$ HBO patients. Expect a friendly talk from the WCC "medical director" early and often if you don't refer many. It's a game.

Thanks Feli, that’s what I thought and what I am seeing on my end too, just wanted some external confirmation. Agree on the HBO as well.

Unless you have lots of open space in your schedule, it's a bad deal. I didn't find the patients that time consuming but the appointments take forever because the nurses get stuck logging performance metrics. The patient has a 2h time commitment while you spend 15 min with them. The result is the clinic could only schedule 10-12 pts/day doing 11042s at the significantly reduced facility (not office) fee schedule. I estimated that I was losing $2000/day!

This is likely highly variable. I cover our hospital wound care clinic where I’m employed and I see 15-20 patients from 0830-1200. And that includes TCCs, vacs, grafts, simultaneous treatment for wounds above the knee, etc. So some of them have some relatively complex needs. If you have enough RNs then wound care can be more efficient than most podiatry offices I’ve worked in, considering how much work wound patients can be (mostly for staff).

Where can one look to find a state's fee schedules? I got an offer today and while the salary is ok I'm like 97% sure the incentives aren't achievable but I wanted to try to see fee schedules to see if there's even a chance I could be wrong and it's not podiatric skullduggery

What do you mean? MCR and MCA carriers?
That is pretty standard RVU for most localities, but you can look them up easily.

Private insurance (where you make most of your $ typically... hopefully) is different for every plan, doc office, hospital, group, etc. It's all contracted individually.

Even if you did (basically graft fraud), you will just be furious with how little you'd keep and how much you put into your owner pockets.

A few DPMs do that kind of collections (that'd be ~1M/yr collect). It's not impossible, but they are seeing ridiculous volume ~5-10min/pt or good payers or basically fraud (overutilize dme/grafts/coding/etc)... or doing all of those.

For the DPMs who do that 1M+ collect (legit or more commonly not), they should be easily clearing 500k net. Again, some do... pretty few.

Fwiw, I do about 50k/mo (less early year, more mid and late year)... but I also structure my work about 4d/wk, 15-20pt/d, no weekends, ultra rare inpts, rare wound care, little nail care, 8-4 and 8-3 fri, no sketch billing, etc. People could - and do - work a lot more (and/or bill a lot more). It depends on how you want to practice, but if you're gonna kill yourself, at least work for yourself :thumbup:

Damn it I was rushing to this thread to post this too. How about them apples? Low balling your associates for years only to have them go somewhere else that will treat them a little better.

They were told their practice makes a lot of money but their associates get paid crap. This is the most podiatry thing ever. Then the associates leave to get paid more and this practice cries foul. Again the most podiatry thing ever.

With noncompetes going away this is great for podiatry, underpaid associates have a better chance and it forces the employers to think twice about lowballing their associates. I hope this happens more often

Too bad I already accepted another job

I worked with this recruiting firm. Absolutely awful experience. The salary the job when I finally got to interview with them was more than 125k less than the job posting stated. They also assured me I would have been reimbursed for my travel and that didn't happen. I guess that's on the actual practice but the fact the recruiting firm lied so drastically about the salary put a sour taste in my mouth.

That’s a bummer to hear. I was hoping the salary was legit so we can get these numbers more across the board. The issue continues to be saturation, on any chance it’s legit will get likely filled in 10 secs with someone with a ton of experience/case volume already
 
I think I used them for my last job and everything was just fine.

Just skip the recruiting firm and contact practices (including the ortho group) in Klamath Falls directly (way more remote than their post would lead you to believe). Practice saves money on recruiting fees and you might not get stuck in a huge stack of applications.

Have always wondered if that is best way to do it. Makes sense obviously

Unfortunately A solid job is not going to be presented to you on a golden platter
Too many residents wait until march of their graduation year to start looking and end up with crappy PP jobs.
Start your 2nd year.
Apply broadly.

I always wondered how applying during your second year works. There’s no weirdness when you tell your employer btw I can’t work for you til a year from now?

With how competitive good podiatry jobs are why would they wait for a new grad for a year when they can hire a 5-10 year board cert grad immediately?

Exactly. When you have some reasonable City that can't even get a ob/gyn no matter how hard they try, they will pay for that. Absolutely not the case with a podiatrist unless you're talking BFE and you personally know somebody at the hospital. That being said, and I can promise you this the more you interview the better you get, so start now practice you never know, and then it only helps with establishing relationships and you never know.

I started reaching out to places at the end of my 2nd year. The place I am now employed by took about 9 months to offer me the position. Part of that was they had to get their budget approved by the tribe (tribal IHS job) that included my salary in it. Other places I had interviewed started reaching out in like mid May of my 3rd year.
 
What can we do to start early?
Not just applying to jobs. But looking into places to create jobs. Look for a place that never had podiatry before that you could be a useful in.

The jobs are out there my friends. Good jobs Hospital employment full scope no competition. I will go to my grave that doing a few years coming out and critical access or rural hospitals is the key. Get your loans paid off, make some money, start a family with less stress and a less busy schedule. You learn incredible skills in these settings. You see all your patients all the way through the post-operative process. They don't get mad and go to somebody across the street because they're not going to drive one or two hours just cuz their toe is swelling 6 months out from surgery. You shoulder the load on everything you develop your skill set without other nearby specialists to fall back on and rely upon and learn what needs to be referred out and what doesn't, you learn how to recognize things that previously would have been picked up by other specialists but because they're not available you are making the initial diagnosis. You learn how to be a member of the community relate to people and these are places where your attitude your availability your personality matters in growing your practice. when you go and talk with administration at other opportunities they eat all this stuff up. Like shooting candy from a baby in a barrel. Translatable skills easy to sell yourself. And then go look for other opportunities. Board certification and rear foot certified, yes you are going to hear some nos but a tremendous amount of opportunities are out there for you. Rearfoot certified and I maintain this, Private practice only and you have minimal chance at these good Hospital employee jobs. And again to be clear Hospital employment is not for everybody. Nobody bats an eye honestly at my short employment status at different facilities. All easily explainable. But they see Ortho group, Hospital, they know you know how these environments work.

Keep applying don't limit yourself in your skill set continually grow. It's a process.

Edit - also don't be an employee and be master of your domain and an owner.

Have a colleague at a rural hospital probably an hour from there (different direction). The usual great pkg of 4 day work week, insane PTO (7-8 weeks), MGMA salary, etc.

I’ll echo @air bud … go rural. Especially if it’s not BFE rural / still close enough to family.

I have always had autonomy. Autonomy is great. Build it how you want to. Dont know what you are doing? Great nobody here does either so no stress..Have built pod service lines at 3 different locations...also a huge marketing technique for yourself....and I am going to do it again. To repeat what have said in the past. Nobody cares how good you are a surgery. Nobody asks in interviews what would you do for this flat foot (unless interviewing with other pods for highly surgical position). Do you know how to run a clinic? Do you know how to market yourself in the community? Do you know how to grow the service line? Do you know how closely interaction with other physicians? Do you know how to be a member of a community? Rural makes answering these questions a slam dunk. Then guess what? Loans paid off, money in the bank, few small kids...easy answer for leaving and going to a metro area - as my kids grew needed more cultural and educational opportunities. I learned a ton in rural medicine here is how I would apply it to this situation...

Anyways this advice and more coming in an eventual epic post.

Also, the key to getting your foot in the door is a good cover letter.

Nobody cares how good you are a surgery.
So true. Not necessarily job related, but a lot of surgeons (not just pods) think they're hot stuff and think everyone in the OR is amazed to see their work. In reality, as long as you're nice to people and don't yell at them, and you don't waste time or put people's lives in danger, and you move consistently through your cases, you'll be regarded as one of the best.

Its interesting because that's not posted on USAjobs.

I have a friend who is a dentist in there and they definitely take advantage of the local recreation, fishing etc.
