any others after that or was it indeed alphabetical and we have reached the end for the day?

can any current maryland students tell me how much tuition is average per year?

I'm pretty sure it's the 16th because that's a business day and the 15th is a sunday

People who were accepted - did you get an email? On Aadsas it says offer made but I never got an email from them.

Got an email with an attachment that had all necessary documents. Aadsas updated shortly after.

How many people are accepted on Dec 16th?

If anyone here knows that answer, that means they are from the Admissions Committee haha. No schools will tell you how they exactly operate. 🙁

Does anyone know if they send out supplementals and interview invites post-dec? Or has that ship sailed?
I haven’t heard from them since I submitted my application in July.

I know friends in the past that have gotten interview invites post-dec, so there's still hope. Also, this is just my opinion, but I don't think that many acceptances were sent out on December 2nd just based off of facebook groups/sdn/friends in the cycle compared to the number of responses from people accepted to other schools, which I think makes sense since UMSOD has 2 dates for acceptances in December alone.

Yes they do. I have an interview there on 12/10!

When did you send your secondary? Still hoping for interview invite

Congrats to everyone who received an acceptance this week!
If you haven't yet, FEAR NOT. Relax and enjoy your holidays. Historically more acceptances go out in a week or two.

Will be checking a few days a week. Message or reach out with any questions.

This is the online resource to look at. If you want a breakdown of is optional/overestimated/underestimated/etc. Let me know

Since you’re a student I would love to ask you about around campus. I loved the area but I’m a little worried about walking home at night and things like that, how is your experience? And which apartments would you recommend?

yes pleae! a breakdown would be great.

I am a practicing who graduated in 2018 🙂 sorry, but don't want to relive that dental school life haha
Crime happens especially in downtown Baltimore. USE COMMON SENSE is my biggest piece of advice. A few students have been jumped in the past and their phones stolen; in one case, the student was playing a game on his phone. Don't leave things in your car. Don't walk around late at night, use police escort and/or walk with friends if you leave the library at 1 am when it closes.

Popular Apartments that dental students live in, based on my old experiences and feedback from current students (in no particular order)
The Redwood
Marlboro Classic
Redwood Square
The Zenith
Camden Court
2 Hopkins
Centrepoint
Student Housing is available, but overpriced in my opinion, especially after 2nd year

Popular areas for rentals (usually houses) for D1s
Ridgley's Delight
Federal Hill
Otterbein
Camden Crossing
Barre Circle
Hollins Market
Pigtown
Mount Vernon - this is usually once you get clinic

yes pleae! a

Mandatory expenses in an academic year (*will increase each year). This is just estimates for first year
Tuition*: IS $40,077; OOS $74,508
Axillary Fees*: $1918
ASDA: $125
Breakage Deposit: $1250 (refunded after 4th year if you didn't break stuff)
CMS: $5631
Equipment: $3300
Uniform: $133
Tech fee: $608
Various Insurance to cover the school's butt: $2050

Please note I am going to make assumptions for this - that you are single and live with at least 1 roommate.
These amounts are estimates per person (school listed this in their ppt)
Rent: $550-800/month ($1500) - rowhouses are cheaper than fancy apartments
Utilities: $125/month ($250) - gas, electric, water
Parking: $30/year for Balrimore City street parking, garages are significantly more expensive $125ish/month ($150)
Food: $200-300/month ($500) - use coupons, pack snacks
Misc: $150/month ($250) - share netflix/disney+ with others, get student spotify WITH HULU for $5/month, budget and don't live outside your means
Transportation/Commuting: it will vary depending on your travel habits, traveling to visit family across country is expensive, take advance of going on ASDA and school org trips ($2000)
Health insurance: ACA, stay on your parents plan for as long as possible, there is a school plan available once you hit 26 for $300/month ($3600)
Books: hahaha PDF online if you want to read the book, most exams are based on lectures, invest in a decent laptop - see below ($3500)

Other expenses throughout school
Laptop: $800-1300
External hard drive: $60 (GET ONE)
Board and Licensure exams: $4000-5000
Vacations: $1000 minimum for D1 spring break (Take the break!)

Here is another resource: https://www.umaryland.edu/media/umb/af/sa/dds.pdf

Note financial aid and student accounting did not update their site and put Fall 2019, so the above amounts are based on Fall 2018

Class of 2018 supposedly graduated with 235k of loan debt. Some of my classmates did not take out loans, thus skewing the average. National average is 280k. Take out the maximum amount offered and return what you can prior to the deadline the office tells you, especially if the rate is 7-8%. Most of your loans will have a ton of interest building from day 1.

Is the portal for deposits working for anyone? When I try to pay, the portal bugs out and I can't input my payment info

Accepted on Dec 2nd at 2:15
My AADSAS changed to “offer made”

mine worked fine, sent today morning

Anyone knows how hard is it to gain Maryland residency after one year? thank you

It is fairly easy as long as you check all the boxes. You have to live in the state for 12 months: living in state and switching your license over to a Maryland over will start the clock. Then you spend 12 months volunteering, work part time so you can file taxes, show you are part of the community

I think it's a problem with google chrome bc i used IE and it worked fine

If I get admitted on the 16th but I'm not doing well in one of my classes this semester, would they rescind my admission? Make me retake a class? I might have some type of C in a science class that's not a pre-req/degree requirement and I'm freaking out.
On the acceptance forms, it says you just have to maintain a C in all classes until you matriculate, so you’re good don’t stress

Thanks! Do they say if a C- would count? I don't think it does for the pre-reqs but this class isn't one.

Anyone with questions about in state, how to apply, when to apply, what the requirements are. See below

Try to raise it up as high as you can. I only know of one case where an offer was rescinded, but you want to avoid that question as much as possible. They may ask why you have a C, especially a C-, in a course you decided to take on your own free will

To those who have emailed admissions the first deposit confirmation and forms did you hear anything back or an email confirmation?

for those who already got accepted, what prerequisite English did you take? will English 100 and 102 look good, or does it have to be 200 level?

my guess is that whatever English is required by your undergraduate institution is fine. At my school we have English 1105 and 1106 called First Year Writing. They also accept AP credits if they appear on your official transcript, which is what I used to fulfill my English requirement!

I have not submitted my deposit yet (waiting for paycheck) however I did email about when classes start so I could make sure my honeymoon does NOT interfere and have not heard back yet. I assume they are insanely busy between the holidays and admissions

Yeah I think they are super busy. I called about a question I had today, and they said it was an interview week.

Is there a facebook group for accepted 2024 students? I'd want to meet everybody!

I also have about 50 questions and feel bad blowing up this thread

It's not legit, made by people in the cycle right now/who've just gotten accepted. There's also another group by the same name that I think is made by a current UMSOD dental student, but idt they're accepting requests to join right now (probs will after Dec. 16 when there are more people accepted)

My deposit went through and I got an email. I think they are super busy right now so it took about a week, but my status on ADEA changed from offer made to offer accepted.

Dose anyone know which dates in January there is interview (if any)?

I’m waiting on that Facebook group to start looking for roommates but if any girls are interested PM me! I’m hoping to get a 3 bedroom along the shuttle route.

Hey guys I also got an acceptance offer and have some questions regarding this school. If anyone with any knowledge could answer I would really appreciate it.

1: How hard is it to get in state residency? I heard it was possible and almost guaranteed when I interview but it sounds too good to be true.

2: I notice that Maryland is not in the ASDA background check; the PDF doesn't even mention one as well. Does that mean they do not conduct one or do I have to go to a separate website/service?

3: Where do people live? I never lived in an super urban area like Baltimore; is it easy to find cheap housing close to the campus?

Thanks to those who reply!
