yasha83 said:Hmm I was accepted in Late January and submitted my FA papers fairly quickly, hope the letter will be there on monday.
nvshelat said:I got 2 letters from Sallie Mae today telling me my Stafford loan amounts - I think I was accepted sometime in late February...
Marimba82 said:I don't know if acceptance date makes a difference -- i was accepted in late December/early January but I also got my letter yesterday, detailing my Stafford award. I think it all depends on when you submitted your FAFSA and your NYCOM fin. aid papers to their office.
But then today, I got a BILL for the remaining amount of tuition/fees that will need to be paid. I don't understand. Why don't they wait and see if Grad PLUS goes through? Did anyone else get a bill for something around $18,000??
nvshelat said:I got a bill for 17,666.50. According to the other pg included with the bill, this is 1/2 of the tuition, 1/2 of medical insurance, and 100% of dental insurance and fees. Will NYCOM automatically take this amount from Stafford, or will Sallie Mae send me a check and then I have to cut NYCOM a check? Also, whats the process if we're already covered by health insurance through our parents? 😕

HunterGatherer said:I spoke to the person in charge of Health insurance last week and was told that we need to submit everything to them ASAP if using another insurance. Otherwise you will get a prorated portion refunded on what seemed to be a monthly basis.
Sucks we don't know the finalized info for tuition and fees but at least we have the opportunity to secure loans now based on estimates.
nvshelat said:What exactly do we need to submit? This is quite bizarre and suspicious for us to send them forms and have some random person decide whether or not I can opt out of their health insurance. At my undergrad, for us to opt out all we had to do was sign an online waiver...
yanky5 said:You guys shouldn't freak out over the bill. While it says you owe them like 38k, somewhere in the middle it should say your expected staffard / financial aid deduction. Subtract your staffard deduction off the final bill and pay that (or don't pay anything). If your bill does not menchan staffard anywhere, then you need to get it processed soon, before the bill's due date. [IF YOU GUYS DIDN'T DO THE STAFFARD/ FINANCIAL AID PAPERWORK YET, HURRY UP BEFORE THE END OF JUNE]
For some reason, NYCOM puts your financial aid in processing mode for a long time so it only shows up on the bill as a "potential" or "expected" deducton. Don't worry about it.
During orientation, they have a date set up for insurance paperwork if you have private insurance and they will deduct most of the insurance costs if you have a good insurance. Bring a copy of both sides of your insurance card. This is what I remember from last year.
Anyways, NYCOM is finished for us first years now. I PASSED. YEAAAAAY
Marimba82 said:yanky5 -- Congrats on being done!!!! I think the issue is that some of us have sent in our FA paperwork, gotten our Stafford award letters.....but then we got a bill for an unclear amount of tuition and fees ($18-19K?) with nothing included about the potential/expected fin. aid award deduction. That's the weird thing. We know we got fin. aid, so somewhere along the line, the billing people forgot to talk to the FA people........i'll be calling on monday to find some answers as well 😉
Onto more important things.......where are the party hotspots for NYCOM students? Local bars? Bars/clubs in the city? Gimme some names 😛 Where do y'all let off steam?
nvshelat said:Dude I just realized that I can't read. At the bottom of the Stafford award letters it says that the loan hasn't been disbursed yet - once it is, the Feds will send the $ to nycom. I can only assume that nycom will post the $ to our account once they get it. So it's a disbursement issue - the letter just says we're approved, not that we've gotten the money yet. No idea how long disbursement takes.
Mike2010 said:yeah, i have to call NYCOM on monday also,, I got the same bill you guys got but I am on a military scholarship. Everytime I try to tell them this the financial aid letter tells me to call the registrar, the registrar tells me to get a hold of the Bursar..etc. until i get some unlucky secretary from some office there whos brain i can hear catching on fire over the phone after i tell her my situation. Getting the right people at NYCOM and the ARMY to talk to each other and straighten this out is going to be exciting!
Marimba82 said:Right....
but......
the letters from sallie mae or the summary letter from NYCOM's FA office say disbursement is on 8/22/06 and 1/10/07 (i think, don't have it in front of me right now)
but the BILL we all received says first years have to pay up by August 1st.
huh??
🙄

this is BS. i'm mad. any way around it??
I remember a financial aid lady told me that usually they only gave PCL to third and forth year medical school students at NYCOM.jellibelli said:I got my finaid award letter, but it only lists the federal stafford loans. Did anyone here apply for SDS or PCL and have it listed on their award letter?
HunterGatherer said:in less than 11 weeks and we will be sitting in NYCOM orientation. Hopefully nobody's brain catches on fire!![]()
Mike2010 said:NYCOMS orientation is on the 21st with classes starting on the 22nd, the day of my 23rd birthday. Since orientation is on the day before my B-day maybe Ill wear one of those beer dispensing hats to; a)keep my brain cool b)celebrate a little early.
Mike2010 said:Really?? I thought it was one day but i dont know i guess...

Don't ruin it for me! I'm just getting into it - I'm still on Season I. I remember seeing the previews for the show a while back and thinking, wow what a dumb show, it's gonna tank. And now I need my LOST fix. 😎
Icarus22 said:Congrats!! 😀 Hey we tied at the youngest age I think, I also turned 21 in march. Thats awesome!

yasha83 said:Im a bit confused with these award letter posts..did you guys get two separate letters, one a bill and the other the stafford award letter? or were both of these in one letter? I have gotten only the bill, sans award. If they should have come together I fear something is wrong with my staff. paperwork, if not im still wondering when the second letter will come....sigh, this is compounded with the fact that i can NEVER reach the FA office. seems to be the only one that never picks up the phone. Does this lady take 6 our lunch breaks, or what? no matter the time or number of calls, or if i get connected through another office, she never picks up.....ughhhh gonna go vent by watching episode 15 of season 1.
Marimba82 said:Ok so I got TWO separate letters from Sallie Mae (one telling me about my subsidized Stafford award, the other about my unsubsidized), I also got ONE letter from the NYCOM Fin Aid office (it's a summary of the Sallie Mae stafford awards), and i got ONE bill from the BURSAR's office of NYIT.
Try calling in mid- morning, I usually get through around that time I think! Lunchtime is impossible!
I will PM you Clair Jacobi's direct # -- she either always picks up right away, or I've left her voicemails before and she's called me back the next day.
