Anyone know what the deal was with that supplemental application we had to fill out at the interview? It was exactly the same as what we had to fill out on aadsas...

yeah, it was the same. the supplemental at the interview was just to update what has change or whats new about you since you turned in your aadsas. i didn't put much but some people were writing everything they can think of.

I just added updates on work/dental -related activities. After you turn in AADSAS, you can't update those. Since I started a new job in Jan. I put it on there, as well as volunteering at a free dental clinic every Saturday since Oct.

I actually aked them and they said it was to get our signature since the AADSAS site cant give them that obviously...lol. Guess they can also update the info, but when you think about it, they already had enough info to consider and invite you to interview, so Im kinda inclined to believe the signature thing - makes sense.

Dont know too much about it, but have found awesome apartments in JC. Any thoughts? Is Queens/Brooklyn side better? The commute to JC doesnt seem that bad, 40 min tops. Any native NYers here can shed some light on the subject?
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know more too. This is from a friend of mine who lives in Hoboken:

Okay, so best areas (included in my thinking is safeness, transportation opps and "cool" vibe aka area where you can find good restos, bar, etc.

Hoboken, I think it by far the best. There is a more "shady" side of town the further towards Jersey City Heights you get but they keep putting up more luxury apartments around there so it's improving. So sort of shady streets would be Jackson/Madison kind of Monroe for Hoboken, every other street is solid. Don't fall for postings for West Hoboken either, there ain't no such thing! Weehawken/West New york on the waterfront (below the cliffs) is up and coming but transportation option are only bus and ferry. Hoboken and Jersey City in comparison have bus, ferry, light rail and PATH train.

Now Jersey City there are some super shady areas of this city so you have to be careful but there are some areas that are quite nice, these safe areas are according to Path stops: Pavonia/Newport (there's a mall and target there too), Exchange place, Grove St. (cute trendy Hoboken style but smaller). Probably Journal Square too but I've never stepped foot off the path from there!

Okay hope this helps let me know if you need any more 411! That reminds me type in Hoboken 411 in google. It's a nice blog that keeps Hoboken residents up on what's going on in town.

is anyone going to bring a ps3 to school? i wanna play gta 4.

Ya I didn't write much either for the supplemental appl.

Anyone know how long it should be before I get wrod from NYU? I had my interview on the 25th of Feb.

What's up, everyone. Just sent in my 2nd deposit, so you can add my name to the list of 2012.

When are you guys planning on moving in? Maybe I'm just lazy, but March seems like an awfully early time to start looking for housing. Either way, all this talk of housing has got me a lil worried.

That said, anyone interested in possibly finding a place for next year let me know or PM me.

Hey, good to hear form you again! Congrats! Remember, I said I only speak a little french😀.

I haven't heard yet, but seeing as how you just got your letter from them I should have mine soon aswell. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi,

I just missed a UPS delivery today!!! Does NYU send the letters by UPS or other postal service? I am dying to know the answer!

*they wouldn't send a small rejection letter by UPS, would they??😕*

I thought I recall reading somewhere on the forum that they DO send it by UPS, but don't quote me. Good luck!

Was out of town this weekend (and really nervous bc I knew the letter would come today). Just got home and there it was! Sooo excited! And really nervous too about the financial situation. So my questions are
1. who are the best people everybody has found to go through for loans? I mean private loans (since Fafsa and Stafford obviously won't cover it all).
2. I'm looking for roommates too! Haven't found a place yet though I've been surfing through craigslist a bit since I interviewed. I'm a non smoking female. I'd like my roommates to be nonsmoking as well (at least in the house). Also....and this is the big thing....I'll be bringing a large dog with me. I know. I'm crazy. But I will absolutely NOT leave him behind.
My dog is almost 70 lbs. a mix of Alaskan Malamute and Golden Retriever. Impeccably trained (both by myself and professionally and will go through some more professional training right before we move up to NYC). has his CGC and TDI certificates. Extremely quiet to the point where my current roommates refer to him as mute. very friendly to all (will not make a good guard dog at all though). currently lives with a cat and can easily live with other dogs and cats as long as they are properly introduced. overall an unusually easy dog to live with.
I would love to live with someone else that has pets, just to keep him company while we're in class. have no problem with him being the only pet in the house either though. he should not live with rabbits or guinea pigs that are let out of their cages though (caged little critters are fine as long as kept in separate room).
I'd like to live as close to campus as possible....without spending like 2500 a month or something crazy like that. Commute time and safety are the most important to me. size and beauty of apartment are secondary.

on the other hand, if we find somewhere thats a REALLY good deal, nicer, and very far away, I'm ok with that. if its such a good deal that it warrants my spending the money on a dog walker EVERY day (I already know I'll have to get one a couple days out of the week)

i love your talk about your dog

😍 This doggy kept me sane through grad school. And despite the work and expense involved in bringing him up to NYC, I'm sure he'll do the same for me through dental. well worth it.

and beside, I refuse to turn into one of those irresponsible little **** that has to rehome their dogs because "I'm moving and I can't take him with me". BS in my opinion. every place in this country has SOME form of pet friendly housing

i had a dog for 6 years and she kept me company through the wee hours of the night studying, so i know how u feel

Im sure youre in man - did you take a look at the rest of the applicants that day? We were (along w the chinese girl) the only three non-freak ones, lol. Youll be ok, well have a drink when we meet over there an laugh about this mess we went through to get in.
FYI - cant speak for others, but mine didnt come via UPS, it came standard USPS.
SALUT!

That's a cool mixture, would love to see a pic! 😉

Waterside Towers MAY sound and look nice online, but ask around, most people that have rented there say its horrible. They say only like 1/3 of the kitchens are actually the way the webside depicts them, that the noise is unbareable and the mng staff is horrible. On top of everything, they said the building is not secure and is almost dorm-like. Add to this that there is no light-rail (or any rail for that matter) nearby and only the M16 bus goes through there. Plus, they dont allow dogs (a guy even said the staff is "hostile to dogs") - so the whole thing doesnt sit well with me. But I guess seeing is believing huh. Just thought Id share. Anyone heard similar?

Ok guys, dont want to seem ******ed, but do we just send a check to them w our first deposit by itself? I ask this because I sent a deposit to CASE before I got accepted to NYU (NYU is my first choice, of course lol) and they included registration papers to fill and include w my check n stuff. I didnt find ANY registration paper w the NYU packet - do we write our name on the check and send it by-itself? I find this very odd. What did you guys do?

just send the check. I think I might include a Thank you letter or something too....in case they decide to change their mind? LOL. I'm so paranoid about this.

but yeah, include your social, maybe your AADSAS, and your cell number.
And KEEP A COPY of your bank statement that shows it was cashed. Both times I applied, the sent me e-mails that they'd lost my secondary check and I had to send them back proof that they'd already cashed it.

chodog. you have a sick icon.

Haha, thanks. Most ppl are scared of my icon and think that they are just some random group of thugs. Little do they know that they are the greatest hip-hop group of all time 😀

hey everyone, how long was it before you found out you were accepted after your interview? also, did you guys have a good feeling after the interview or were you unsure as to how you did?

I interviewed at NYU last week and I think I did decent, but who knows since it really is up to the interviewer!! ick!!

anyone know how many seats are still left?🙄

they were pretty prompt. I intervied on the 14th of Jan and recieved my acceptance letter the 22nd. They mailed it out the 19th. I felt pretty confident. Maybe thats cuz i barley answered any questions and most of the interview was the interviewer selling me on the school.

let us know how it turns out 👍

anyone at nyu recently or have interviews coming up?

Ha ha! That's exactly what I thought it was! I'm too old and uncool to know otherwise! 🙂

I'm hoping to get a bunch of dog owning students together so we can either rent together or close together. or at the very least if we have to board or get dog walkers we can get discounted rates by taking multiple pets. Oh and for transport too bc PetTaxis are expensive. and so many other things.

PM me if you're interested and I'll give you my e-mail

Musl, That is exactly how my interview went, I sat there for about 30 mins before I said a word and even then he didn't really ask me much about myself lol. Who was your interview with? Mine was with Kosofsky, who did a very good job presenting the schools + &-'s. I still haven't heard anything from NYU, and I had my interview on Feb 25...🙁

I had loads of questions at my interview! Interviewer didn't try to sell the school at all. He seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me. In fact, he said I should go for a job in the ministry of health, in Pakistan! lol
Maybe I will. 🙂

yea thats who i had. He was awesome. Anyway hopefully you will get something in the mail soon. He seems too nice to say no to anyone.

I didn't have that interviewer, I had a gentleman by the name of hittelman. so most people found out within 2 weeks after they interviewed if they got accepted?

i meant to also ask, anyone get interviewed by hittelman and get accepted? how did you think the interview went?

I had him and I got in. It was the toughest interview I had. Ever. Job or professional school.

Hey, Give them a call, I just called this morning and they are going to express mail the packet to me.

WOOT WOOT!

I`m so excited, I just got off the phone with NYU to ask if they had mailed a response yet and not 2 minutes after I get off the phone I get a knock at my door. It was the UPS guy. I`m in!

Can't wait to meet you guys. I'm probably going to be back and forth to NY and here a few times, perhaps I might be able to meet with a few of you.

Just got acceptance letter today, man that was quick... I only interviewed March 7th
Pretty sweet unconditional with some money
Its going to be hard to turn this one down.

Ok so there was this page in there that says the following...

To secure your admission in the dental program, you need to meet all of the following conditions:

-Obtain a BA/BS degree by Aug 1 08 if not already obtained. This includes the successful completion of all prereq courses by NYUCD
An official degree-noted transcript must be submitted
-Maintain a satisfactory academic record that is expected to be of the same high standard as those upon which we based your acceptance.
-Meet all applicable deadlines

and then ig goes on about the fees etc...

so my Q is this,

I have completed my BS degree last year, and was taking a couple courses in the fall for personal interest (I didn't want to have to get a job in the real world 😀) and a few more in the winter term. None of these had anything to do with any prereqs, those were all met in the degree...

In the fall I decided to withdraw from a statistics class becasue it really wasn't anything that I thought it was supposed to be an wasn't enjoying it.

Then in the begining of Jan of this year I decided that staying in school and shelling out more $$$ just to put off growing up😀 was a bad idea and I dropped all classes and have been working.

The thing is that as far as I know the aadsas and NYU have all my info from early september when plans were that I was still taking Statistics and enrolled for winter semester....but none of these courses were of any significance to my application...

So is this page they included a conditional or unconditional acceptance?

Forgot to add that I had my interview on Feb 25 and just got my acceptance letter today, so it's not like I ditched all my courses cause I knew that I was in....
