Well folks, I just got a letter today saying I made the waitlist or rather what they are calling now the "Waitlist pool."

Since I may be the first SDNer to receive the letter I thought it appropriate to start the "official" waitlist thread for Pritzker.

For those that may not have gotten the letter yet here are the details:

1. Waitlist is NOT ranked; that's why it's called a "pool."

2. ~20 people receive offers for admission but could be as high as 25.

3. Offers are made as vacancies open up so I guess it is on a rolling basis.

4. Not everyone that was in the Alternate Pool made the Waitlist Pool. Rejections are probably going out right now as well. 🙁

5. They will monitor your other acceptances and WILL NOT offer you admission if you are within 2 weeks of the starting date at another program.

6. You need to reserve your spot on the waitlist by e-mailing the Audrey Gabriel. If you want to withdraw, you need to send them a written letter notifying them.

Therefore, let's get this thing going all the way through the next couple months, cheer each other on, and see how we all end up faring as we wait.

Good Luck Peeps!

Here here! I second this motion. We've got to keep this bad boy rolling. I'm in for the long haul (hopefully short haul) this spring/summer ... let's do this.

Did anyone else hear? Positive, negative?

Take care, and good luck to all.

Gumshoe

ps- which do you think, closer to 20 or 25 off the list?

I'm jumping aboard the waitlist bandwagon....seems to be the cool thing to do these days! Good luck everyone!

Hey Pritzker peoples -- I missed hearing about you! I want so bad to ditch work and go home to see if there's a letter waiting for me, but I know the only thing sitting there will be another credit card offer. Silly, stupid credit card companies... 😡

Ah, well. The home stretch is upon us. Good luck to all y'all...

Hey all, I just received the letter today!

Man, I really hope I get in, I love CHICAGO!

good luck to everyone,

I just received the waitlist letter from Chicago.

I am glad to not get cut off and make the waitlist. This is my #2 choice and I would love to go there...😀

Count me in too. So I know SDN is always a "positively biased" sample, but does anyone else think that Pritzker didn't cut too many people in going from the alternate pool to the waitlist pool?

not really, my friend and I were both on the alternate list and she got a polite rejection from them today. don't know how many, but the cut was made...she is in other schools so she's like "whatever"

I think they look at your acceptances so far and see if you are still interested...the may reject you before you reject them, just to feel like "they won." LOL😛

As I have just now pulled my waitlist letter from the mail box (no telling how long its been sitting in there), I am proud to say that I am in the esteemed company of waitlisters.

Happy waiting and good luck to us all!

hey kids - well, it's been swell, but i'll not be joining the ranks of the waitlisted. probably a good thing, in retrospect. i wish you all the best, and i hope to hear some good news from you in the future!

good luck!

Badgergirl, I'm sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing. I know it was probably tough. Where will you be going in the fall?

Best of luck in the future.

hey guys, congrats to those on the waitlist...i'm also playing the waiting game...

before i start, let me preface this by asking that no one flame me for putting a "this school vs. that school" post; i don't have very many pre-med friends and i need some honest opinions from those in the know...

that being said, I wanted to know if y'all thought that Pritzker would give us a quality CLINICAL education. I guess that's always subjective, but I will contrast it with my other option, USC in Los Angeles. I'd get an incredible experience there because of the affiliation with the County Hospital, the reliance on med students b/c it's a county hospital, and the international patient population/pathology.

That being said, does Pritzker's clinical years compare? Or would I have to go hunt for it through the community projects?

Do y'all think that Pritzker is worth giving up the easier "in" to a So. Cal residency (by virtue of networking through USC)?

Of course, all these "what ifs" may not be necessary, but hey, i'd like to be prepared just in case...

thanks for any input...

Nameless, it really depends on what you want.

If you want to stay in So.Cal., stay at USC, it's a great school, in beautiful LA, and I don't think the prestige difference between the two is substantial.

Does anybody know how many people were placed in the alternate pool, and how many were cut to make the waitlist pool?

as far as i understood, a third of those who interviewed were accepted, and the rest of us were placed in that acceptable pool (i don't think anyone was flat out rejected). I don't know exactly how many were interviewed, but i'm assuming between 500-700? But maybe i'm wrong.

as for my post, l.a. is home but chicago is just so damn cool. and i'm not talking about the weather. But i just realized that i may not have asked the best crowd; y'all probably want my ass out of this wait list pool!!!

good luck to everyone...

I don't care if you're in the waitlist pool or not. You have to ask yourself where you'll be happiest, which could involve cost, location, curriculum, etc. For me, location is a big factor, and I would like to stay close to home and match into a residency close to home. I applied this reasoning to your situation.

You will have an easier time matching into So.Cal. if you go to USC, but in any case, you will have to do well once in medical school to match, period. Doing well at either school will give you great options; however, at USC you can probably network yourself to something you want in California.

Just my 2 cents. 🙂

Hmmm....curious.

Didn't seem like you were interested in Pritzker from our previous exchange. Having a change of heart or were you just trying to needle me a bit last time?

Don't flatter yourself Explosivo, just seeking another's opinion.

Don't worry, I wasn't trying to be like you. Self-flattery is what you're good at or have forgetten your final condescending response to me on the UIC thread a couple weeks ago?

Hypocrite.

Umm, looks to me like FF was just trying to help Nameless. Don't really see what the big deal is. 🙄

You started this thread, why create tension?

You know I don't really know what the big deal is either. 🙄 My response had nothing to do with Nameless' question and if you believe that you should go back and read the first page.

The guy accused me of flattering myself when all I did was ask him a legit question about his interest in Pritzker given his outspoken "lukewarm" interest in the school from our previous exchanges. He could've answered my question but instead he chose to insult me. Tell me again how I "created" the tension?

Look, lets just discuss the thread. Anyone is allowed to ask/post/show interest regardless of previous posts.

Exp-have you EVER changed your mind or wanted to find out more information to make a well-informed decision?
If someone on this site wants to spend their free time needling you, believe me, they could do a much more thorough job. Just ask Phar (RIP).

Hey, I agree with you. Yeah my mind changes too but I was still a little miffed by his response to me on the UIC thread a few weeks ago. I let it go then and perhaps I should have let it go this time as well. Doesn't matter, I hope he goes wherever he will be happiest. He's certainly free to post whatever and wherever he wants.

What's your situation? Have you been accepted/wait-listed at Pritzker or are you looking at other acceptances?

Um, one more question. Does anyone know how many of us are on this waitlist?

Hey Explosivo, congrats on getting in!

also i'm bumping this to see if anyone else has been contacted...so we can keep biting our nails by the phone...

congrats again explosivo!

Thanks nameless! I was gonna bump this up today also but I guess you beat me to it. 😀

Yeah guys I got a phone call friday and I couldn't be happier. Dreams can come true, what more can I say? I'm glad this 4 year ride is finally over. I was starting to get a bit nauseous from all the ups and downs. 🙂

I think I'll stick around and pull for all of you now! 😎

Anyone else? I would like to reiterate the inquiry about how many are on the waitlist that has been contracted.

Anyone have any idea? If you figure there are 25-30 that could come from the waitlist, is there 50-80 total on this one?

Gumshoe

Well, I can't believe it, but it happened. Thanks for all the help. Now that I am in, I'll strive to be more humble --- not get caught up in any bad business. I know where I came from.

THANKS again. Pray that I touch other people's lives as I dream I can.

CHEERS!😉

Gumshoe

ps- i'm pulling for you guys now, keep the streak going

Hey everyone,

I'm new to SDN and I just wanted to say hi. I'm an undergrad at the University of Chicago right now and am also waitlisted at Pritzker ... if you haven't done so and are curious, you should contact Sylvia Robertson or Eric Lombard to ask what doubts or concerns they have about your application -- Sylvia, at least, is SO sweet and will be honest with you. I was told why I was waitlisted and have now written them a letter explaining/defending myself, so hopefully they will be convinced and an acceptance will come through for me.

For anyone who has any doubts about Pritzker, you shouldn't!! Although I never would have thought that I'd want to stay here, I definitely do. Pritzker is awesome, especially the people that make up the school and community. Since my interview, actually, I've befriended a ton of med students and they are every bit as inspiring and impressive as you'd want your future colleagues to be.

If you have any questions feel free to ask ... and congratulations to those who have been accepted already.

Gumshoe,

You rock man. What can I say? I sent you a PM you lucky malaka. 😛

Welcome vscarlet27! Hopefully you'll get to stick around (and I mean that in a good way). 😉 I definitely second contacting Sylvia. She is a wonderful person who is incredibly helpful.

 congrats explosivo and gumshoe! i've been rooting for you two for a long time, so i'm happy you guys got in! i'll be way way west of you at loyola, but here's to chicago anyway!

 congrats!!!

I posted this one originally in the "Pritzker 2007" thread, then I remembered that there is only one "OFFICIAL" thread. I got a call from Sylvia this morning with great news. Would anyone like to take a stab at what that good news might be?

The postdoc that I work under gave me the afternoon off to go celebrate.

And celebrate I shall.

Congratulations and good luck to all!

I got in on Thursday...am withdrawing from everywhere except Sinai.

Anyone have any more comments on this?

I cannot believe I got in, I love Pritzker and met some great students when I interviewed, Explosivo was there, we were like the last ones interviewed too. 😀
