OFFICIAL TUFTS COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
D'oh. I called at 12:02, and nobody was home. No mail either. Just another day in purgatory I suppose. That your friend was accepted from the hold letter is inspirational. Thanks.

got a waitlist offer today (#10! :D )

good luck to those waiting on them...i'll be declining :)

Assassin--you're on 10 waitlists?? Or is Tufts w/l ranked? I thought it wasn't. I'm in the same boat, waitlisted at my top three choices (Tufts, Jeff, Tulane). I feel like the Diet Coke of medical admissions--good, but not quite good enough.

Last year Tufts took well over half the students that they interviewed. Does this indicate alot of waitlist movement or alot of post-interview acceptances?

Thanks

btw, others anxiously sitting on waitlists, rest assured, i'm not hogging up all those waitlist spots (certainly not tufts) and declined all but a few :)

I got an acceptance to the MD/MPH program about two weeks ago and promptly gave up my place in the class (the same day)...so hopefully that will open up a spot for someone on the waitlist.
Good Luck.

as a Tufts student, I can assure you that there is a lot of waitlist movement. I know of 19 people including myself who came in off the waitlist in my class, and there are probably at least a few more (i haven't talked to everyone about whether or not they came off the waitlist or not to say the least). good luck to all of you waiting; the two periods of greatest waitlist movement are late May and mid-late July (but more so in May).

Accepted today from the "on hold" group...unless some waitlists come through, I'm going to Tufts next year!

Dr. L
I wish I were you.
I'm from New York and on hold, but I didn't get anything in the mail today. Hope that's not a bad sign.

I had received the no decision letter back in January. Today, I finally received their rejection letter, post-interview. I guess I fell on the wrong side of the 50% of the interviewees.

Nothing in WA (although I wasn't expecting anything until Thursday or Friday). I'm becoming tempted to call them.

Good luck, everyone. I'll post as soon as I get the letter.

I was rejected. It's official; Willy will not attend medical school next fall. Thank you all for your support and good luck in your future endeavors.

I got the acceptance letter today in Seattle!!! I am DEFINITELY going. To those on the waitlist, don't give up. Like Katie said, they take a lot of people off the waitlist. Be sure to write an interest letter.

Congrats Otter!! I've been reading some of your posts and knowing how much you love Tufts :) Very awesome news!
BTW, for all of you waitlisted at Tufts, I'm declining my waitlist position. I receive the waitlist letter today, dated May 13th; I'm from CA. Hope that helps you guys!

congrats otter and Dr. L! look forward to seeing you next year. feel free to PM or ask me if you have any more questions about Tufts. and I can't repeat enough that all of the waitlisted should keep hope alive; like I said I know 19 people who were waitlisted and got in, and about only 6 people who got in directly without being put on hold or waitlisted. the other students i don't know about. anyway, back to studying for my anatomy and physical diagnosis finals then i am done for a few days until i get the verdict on whether i passed everything or not... stay tuned.. :)

Thanks•••••During the interview, Tom Slavin (I think that was who) told us that Tufts only accepts as many people as they have positions in their class. What that means is that unlike other schools that accept more knowing that some will drop, Tufts will take a person off the waitlist everytime a student declines their offer. This undoubtedly translates into a lot of waitlist movement.

By the way, for the other person that asked - as of now I am planning on going to Tufts. The acceptance saved me from choosing between the state school where my family lives (MD) and the state school where my boyfriend/partner of 5 years lives (CO.) I was so happy not to have to make that choice. I am on 5 other waitlists however, and I would definitely take four out of the five over Tufts. (The 5th questionable one is Cornell. Loved the school, but I am not into New York)

Doctora Foxy, HansSolo and Katie -- thanks a lot!!!

Katie, I'll probably have to bother you during the coming weeks with some questions via PMs.

Just got news today. What a long wait. Waitlist #7
I am actually very releaved and am pretty optimistic about this school. Over the past two years many students have come off the waitlist and I don't see why this year would be different with the whole AMCAS thing. Even the letter
itself makes it seem like you shouldn't begin to give up hope on them.

i also got the waitlist...it is so stupid that it comes in a big envelope...it was dated May 13th.

I am optimistic about getting off the waitlist too. Tom Slavin said that if you get waitlisted, the chances of getting in are real. I only hope that it happens in the next 2 monthes before I have to register at another school in early august.

Got my waitlist letter yesterday, postmarked May 13. (What's with USPS?) So do you guys think we should write interest letters? Slavin says you really don't need to do anything in the waitlist letter. I just don't want there to be any doubt that I would attend if accepted.

dmbmd,

You will most likely receive a phone call regarding your acceptance, and then they follow up with a letter. The wait is hard, but so many get in this way that it is almost expected for tufts students. I was into four other schools by the time Tufts said yes: in retrospect, i was pretty crazy and risky! Good luck to all, and as Katie said (hello katie:) feel free to email me regarding questions on Tufts.

Well, another spot is about to open up, as I just sent in my withdrawal today.

Good luck everyone!

just a heads up on what neel said (hola neel;); i received a phone call and e-mail. though people who get in in may off the waitlist may actually hear via snail mail. neel, can you believe we are STILL waiting on our anatomy test results? i called the OEA on Wednesday and they said no later then Friday, then I called today and they said sometime next week, probably early in the week but maybe late. What is up with this; Dr. Rufo told us that the purpose of the Scantron forms was to get the exams graded sooner, and we have had exams hand-graded that have come back to us in less time. ARGH!!!! Oh well, sorry to intrude on a pre-med thread with my ranting; good luck to all of you still waiting. It seems that Tufts is very good in general about making people wait (although the same can be said of other schools I'm sure).

Katie,

I would rather them take their time then hastily fail anyone :D I was close, i need the 55 but still, i think it might too close:( I was close on physio too...Are other grades out?

Everyone else, i remember now that I also was emailed. In fact they tried my cell phone, house phone, and my email...but unfortunately i was in a client meeting so i didn't get any of it until several hours later...no worry though, i was ecstatic either way!

I called Tufts a few days ago and asked when the committee would be meeting to discuss waitlistees. The woman in the adm. office said they'd be getting together during the 3rd week of June. That seems a bit late (especially to someone waiting :) , but who knows! Does anyone know anything more about how the committee goes about meeting?

dmbmd,

From what the woman I spoke with said, it sounds like the adm. committee will be meeting for the first time (to review waitlisters) during the 3rd week of June. Have you (or anyone) heard differently? I haven't heard of anyone getting off the waitlist, yet.

I'm having trouble making a decision. What do you guys think about UVM vs. Tufts? I like them both for different reasons. Is one better than the other? Any input would be great.

Okay so I need to send a deposit by Saturday to another school so I cracked and called the admissions office..and, my heart is still pounding, Angela told me an admit letter was sent my way on Friday!!! so there appears to be movement! :)

Can everyone please post when they get their letters from Tufts?
Thanks

thanks dmbmd...I'm still debating what I want to do. I liked both BU and Tufts and hate that I have to decide between them, but I am ecstatic to be in this position. I'm still holding out for UMass but am going to have to send in money to one of these two schools by week's end. So I have some thinking to do...I find BU and Tufts to be quite comparable and can't force myself to pick one right now, but I suppose I have to soon!
Once I got the waitlist letter, I wrote an email because they said that was the beest way to contact them, but I got an automatic reply saying that the address would not be monitored because someone was on vacation. So about a week later, I wrote a letter and mailed it snailmail saying essentially the same thing...Good luck to you, but if you haven't, I'd advise writing a letter to let them know you're alive and interested!
Good luck and I'll let you know what I decide, if I ever do decide!

gooseHC, congratulations!!! A while back, there was a thread on Tufts vs. BU. Maybe you can find it through the search function.

To those on the waitlist, I would thoughtfully express interest (addressed to Dean Slavin) via email.

Congratulations, Goose. I called Tufts today, and, unfortunately, I'm still on the waitist.
On another note, have you called UMASS to inquire about your waitlist status? I, too, am on UMASS's waitlist, and am wondering if they'll release any info about a candidate's status over the phone. Thanks.

Otter, thanks for the congrats and the help. I think I actually started that thread with the hopes of having this decision..but still seeing if anyone could help me make this decision! :)

dancindoc, i tried calling UMass, but the woman said that nothing had changed and told me to hang in there..but Tufts was a bigger one to hear before I sent money to BU, because I would be upset to lose $500 and go to a school with similar tuition, but if I lose $500 and end up going to UMass, I'll make it up tenfold over the next four years..so I'll hang on UMass til August!

and thanks Foxy for your congrats too!

Still indecisive though... :)

GooseHC,
Flip the coin-head=BU and tail=Tufts! Let "the higher being" decide it for you! :D And good luck!

Congrats GooseHC!!
I am actually in the same situation you were in before you called Tufts and found out you'd been accepted. I am wait listed at Tufts and into BU. So when I heard that the wait list at Tufts would not move until the 3rd week of June I just sent in my $500. I don't want to waste $500 but I did not know what else to do. we'll see what happens - as I am still waiting to hear from Tufts. Did you get your acceptance letter in the mail yet?

Also, have you come any closer to a decision as to which school to attend? I don't know which one I like better myself. They both have good match lists. I hear the curriculum at Tufts is moving to lectures until noon, and both have good teaching hospitals, although I really like Boston Medical Center. What considerations will you make in deciding between the two? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Congrats again!

I got a letter last night via snail-mail from Tufts accepting me off their waitlist.

I received an acceptance off the waitlist via snailmail on Wednesday the 12th. I have until the 21st to decide between Georgetown and Tufts. Any ideas?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by dmbmd:
•as i understand, otter got accepted outright in may after a late interview in march. he was never waitlisted.•••••Yes, you are right, dmbmd.

Looks like there's big-time waitlist movement going on with Tufts!!!

Any news regarding movement??

Can someone recap who is definately going to Tufts?

Anyone have an idea of when the admissions commitee is going to meet again to review the waitlist?

Got in off the waitlist on the 13th, but withdrew. I decided Tulane was more my style. Good luck all!

Any new Tufts movement?

Got a personal email from Mr. Slavin today that began with:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
