Official UC Davis Countdown

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those waiting on Davis,
I interviewed in the first week of April. I got an e-mail from Terri Hall today congratulating me on my acceptance (just under 6 wks, formal letter to follow). This was the first I've heard post-interview. So they ARE STILL SENDING OUT ACCEPTANCES.

I interviewed on March 18th and got an email notification of acceptance (formal letter to follow) on Tuesday. Good luck to everyone still waiting! :)

Thought you guys might be interested.
I recently talked to the Admissions office staff, and they told me that Davis would be finished interviewing by the end of this week.

Congrats to all the acceptances to Davis! By the way, has anyone who interviewed at Davis late last year gotten an acceptance lately? It seems that Ali interviewed at Davis fairly recently and got an acceptance. But are there any movement on people who has been put on hold since Jan?

nope, on hold since Jan. 29 and still no word. Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!

Top this! Interviewed January 11th, NO WORD YET!!

Hopefully, since davis just finished interviewing, a lot of people on "hold" will be accepted soon. Anyone already accepted from that category recently?

I nee ta get me one of dem emails huh, ya know? Excuse me....Excuse me....has anyone seen Terri? Anoyone? Anyone? Well...ummmm...can you pleeeeaassse tell her to email me. What's a girl to do? Terri is showin' me no love.

any news lately? it's may 21st already. What's going on at UCD?

That's what i would like to know. I've been on hold for what seems like forever! Does anyone know if being on hold is a good thing? Is it being caught between acceptance and wait-list, or is it more like being between waitlist and rejection?

Since I'm going to be out of town until tuesday (5/28), I called the admissions office two days ago, and anonymously asked them if I needed to leave an alternate contact number, in case they would be sending out emails between today and tuesday, and they told me that they wouldn't be sending out emails before tuesday (may 28th).

I guess I won't have to resume my ritual of checking my email every 30 minutes until the 28th :)

Best of luck to others in the "hold" category, and have a great Memorial Day weekend!

For those of you that were emailed acceptances, have you received the official letter in the mail yet? thanks!
i'm still waiting for my official letter.

Hello,

Are there applicants that interview in early April that are in the "Hold" catergory? Do you know when they will notify if we're accepted or not? I would appreciate some info. Thanks

Tristan,

I interviewed around then and am still on hold. I wonder if their has been any movement at all.

GrnLt,

By any chance have you talked to anyone in the admissions office? If so, do you have any info?

tristan,

I haven't talked to the admissions office since i was placed on hold. Last thing they told me was that individuals on "hold" would be reviewed after all interviews have been conducted. The last interview at Davis was quite a while back though. If anyone has any information, please let us all know.

Hi everybody,
Just a quick update after calling the admissions office this morning. Like many others, I am in the 'hold' category, and haven't heard anything for a while...

I think I talked to Terri Hall (it sounded like her, at least) and told her that I would be going through military training from 14June-29June (since I am in the National Guard) and would not be able to be reached, either by email or phone during that period. She said that that would be approximately when they would be making some sort of decision on my file (accept/reject/waitlist).

I had originally told her that I would be gone for 2 weeks, and I guess she thought that meant 2 weeks from today, and said that there probably wouldn't be any movement during that time.

So it looks like I'll have some sort of answer when I get back at the end of June.

I also asked her the 64,000$ question (I guess there are two of them)

1. How many people are in the 'hold' category?
She said that most of the people who interviewed were put in that category, and there were very few rejections post-interview.

2. How many acceptances have yet to be given out?
She said that she didn't really know, and it depended of course, on how many withdrew.

I was playing with some ballpark guesses for #1 and #2, and my guess would be ~200 people for the former, and ~30-50 for the latter, so although UC Davis is my dream school, the odds are kind of against me, and I am not getting my hopes up too high...

Best of luck to everybody!

Thanks for the update. I've been on hold since my January interview and have been waiting anxiously like everyone else. I'm from Sac originally (Go Kings!) and Davis is definitely my top choice. I called Terri a few weeks ago and she said they hoped to have given all the acceptances by the start of June. I too am going to be gone (out of the country) for six weeks starting in June, so I am a bit nervous about the pending correspondence. It's kind of hilarious because I've given my mom my cellphone, several letters of acceptance and withdrawal to fax to schools if I hear something, plus she is manning my email account.

Regarding the number of slots available. I know they interview about 500 and they give 200 acceptances to fill the 93 spots, so that would mean the on hold pool is about 250-300. When I interviewed in January, they had given 15 acceptances. Based on what I have read from other posts, it seems like would have at most 40 acceptances left and at least 15-20. Of course, they say that 200 acceptances it there target, and so it might take until September for it all to be sorted out.

Good luck to all.

Yippee! I was just granted a deferral from Davis. I really hope my spot in next year's class goes to a fellow SDNer.

Hi English Chick,

When did you request your deferment and what was your reason (if it's not too personal). I requested a deferment on Tuesday and haven't heard back yet. How long did they take to respond? Hopefully we'll be in the same class in 2003!

I sent my letter on Friday and just got an email from Terri Hall today. I pretty much just said I wanted deferral b/c I want to work for a year (in health policy research) and b/c I'm getting married in Aug. I don't even have a job yet and I admitted it. I guess they'll give a deferral to anyone!

Here is some data I just received that might help clear up the questions about Davis. They have accepted almost 160, 90 are currently holding spots. They usually accept about 200 to fill their class of 93.
Also, there were very few rejections post-interview so there are a lot of us on hold. I was told that a waitlist will be made in the next couple weeks.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, Tree for posting that.
The odds don't look so good.
On a side note, the fact that they have given out 160 acceptances tells you a little about how few class of 2006-ers read SDN (or that there are a huge number of lurkers). If there are only 3 people that have posted that they have been accepted (on the accepted thread) while Davis has accepted 50X as many, it confirms my belief that maybe only 10% of the class of 2006 is on SDN.

-ttac•••••i guess i'm a lurker, but probably will be giving up my spot by next week (can u believe that it's cheaper for me to go to a texas state school than a UC even though i'm a cali resident?)

According to "US News & World Report," there was a total of 3,731 (3,169 In-State/562 Out-of-State) applicants for the 2001 Entering Class. Among these applicants, exactly 425 (420 In-State/5 Out-of-State) were selected for an interview and a total of 203 (198 In-State/5 Out-of-State) were eventually offered an acceptance. The total enrollment last year was 93 (92 In-State/1 Out-of-State).

I do not want to pass judgement on these figures; however, it seems a little less than 50% of those who interviewed last year were eventually accepted. So, good luck to all those who are still waiting!

thanx alot california,
any news lately guys?

Hi everyone,
I hate to make a depressing observation, but even though the odds of acceptance post interview were 50% before any acceptances were handed out doesn't mean that they are still 50%. For example, if Davis interviews 400 people for 200 acceptances, and no acceptances have been given out, the odds are 50% that you will be accepted. However, assuming no rejections post interview, after Davis accepts 160 people, there are only 40 acceptances left, but 240 people remaining. So that means the odds have now dropped to 17%.

At this time my best guess is 30 acceptances/200 people, so maybe a 15% chance. Of course, thats just a SWAG...

gave up my place yesterday--hope the spot goes to someone on sdn  best of luck!

most likely will be giving up my spot next week, just got in last week...

Hey guys,

So here's the latest news. I just called about 5 minutes ago and I spoke to Terri. I've got terrible news. The class is now full. She said that in two weeks they will give out the waitlist ranking. All we can do now is hope for a high ranking and hope that a lot of people in the class drop out. Well, I guess that's the way it goes. Maybe I'll have better luck next year. Good luck everyone.

Hey everyone,
This is where I'm at: lifelong Cal resident in fear of moving out of state, still on hold from Davis, and facing an aceptance to a school in Mass. and another in Miss.. Should I keep holding out for hope that I can stay close to family and friends or just bite the bullet and withdraw? I really really want to stay in Cal for personal reasons, in addition to the price-break in cost. Also in posession of waitlist letters from other UCs, but Davis was my top pick. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Um, there's no reason to drop waitlists! Just...wait. And don't get too attached to northern CA, there are a whole lot benefits to heading south of Bakersfield.

thought u guys might be interested. I talked to the admissions office and they said those on the hold list should hear in about two weeks.

I was starting to get optimistic since i noticed that some people who got accepted to Davis were accepted to other schools that they plan to matriculate to. Well....now that the class is officially full I suspect most of us "on hold" people will get rejected or waitlisted. 30/200 is not looking good to me. I guess I'll have to get my masters and try again in a few years. Despite the frustration and inconsistencies in this process I will not give up. I know that being a doctor is what I want to do so by god, I'm not going to stop until I get what I want!!!! I hope you guys feel the same way. Good luck to everyone. Hopefully we'll hear soon so at least if we get bad news it won't take forever to get it. Actually, it already kind of feels like forever.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

When does davis' orientation and class begin?

I believe orientation is Sept. 16-17, classes starting on Sept. 19.

any new news?

I'm starting losing hope here, guys!!! Anyone knows if this rule applies to UCDavis: once you enroll in a med school, you will automatically be kicked out of all other waitlists.

My guess is that it does. I belive this rule applys to every school. I hope i hear good news from Davis soon.

wait a sec ... I just want to clarify that. My understanding is that once you BEGIN ORIENTATION, then you are kicked off waitlists. But you can stay on other waitlists even though you've accepted a spot at Davis, as long as neither school has started classes. Since Davis starts later than most everywhere else, you can keep other options open, if you so choose.

Sorrento,
You have it right. You would only get kicked off of waitlists if you have accepted admission to a school and have begun that schools orientation/classes. So, yes, you could wait on other waitlists until Davis starts. Which is pretty late so you would probably hear from most schools you are waitlisted at before Davis even begins.

Hi again. I hope all of you get into Davis! I just thought I'd pass some info along about the pre-matriculation program there, if you haven't already heard about it - it is a 2-week program, right before regular classes start, for people who need a little extra time to get into the swing of things in med school (nonscience majors, students with families, those who didn't do so well on one of the premed reqs, etc.) The whole class is invited to apply and 21 are chosen. I don't know how it works for people on the waitlist, but if you're interested in the program you should contact Gail Currie via the Admissions Office and find out if you can apply from the waitlist/hold list. The deadline is July 1, and who knows, showing interest in the program might be another point in your favor. good luck everyone. Hope to see you in September!

It's already June 12. Does any one know if Davis is still making up their waitlist or if they are sending out the letters already? It's been quiet for a while, so I thought I ask to see if anyone else have any news.

She seems quite responsive to students' concerns/questions. Good luck.

for those still waiting on UCD,

i just e-mailed terri hall today and declined my acceptance. i hope one of my fellow SDNers gets it. keep your heads up! most of the people accepted to UCs have multiple acceptances (many to other UC schools). despite the fact that the class is now full, there will be more people declining their acceptances. good luck!!!!

Anyone recieve any news from Davis yet?

Just got the bad news email a few minutes ago from Frances. I was rejected after being in the hold category for a while. I guess the adcoms couldn't look past my terrible GPA.

Best of luck to those of you still in the hold category, and I hope you get accepted...

-ttac

I just got my rejection email, too. It's too bad, but life goes on. I'll have to retake the MCAT this August. Good luck to all.

hey!
I will be dropping my UCD acceptance today, so more spots are definitely opening up. Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone,

For those recently accepted to Davis, did u receive the news via email or snail mail?
