wow........thank you so much rosewater. I am actually a first time applicant. I just wanted to say for all you who were disenchanted by your low MCAT score there is hope. CONGRADULATIONS TO EVERYONE !! And for all those who didn't match this year don't lose hope !! I wish everyone the best !!

I'll be headed there, too. Has anyone gotten their information in the mail yet, though? Anyone know where to live down there? I've got a dog, so i need a yard. I don't know if I'll be able to afford that much land on the island. Anyone know anything about LaMarque, or Texas City, etc?

my brother inlaw owns the long johns silvers in galveston so make sure to eat there at least once a day so he can get that plasma tv he's been wanting

man galveston has a bunch of good cheap places to live...theres a neat little neighborhood with houses and condos and stuff next to utmb where all the street names are "tuna" or "swordfish" or something like that and it is called "fish village." i think a friend and i are going to look for houses there. theres also condos and apartments along parts of the seawall and a little more inland. be careful though, because a lot of galveston is "the bad part of town" but i'm really not sure if its truly unsafe or if its just kinda gross.

I'm from Lubbock, but am staying with a friend in Kansas City for awhile.

If you live around right around campus in Galveston, it is not dangerous or unsafe at all. I walk to school everyday and there are a lot of other people who also walk to school. Renting a house here on the island isn't that expensive either. There are several people who live in houses in Galveston.
 
I am going to UTMB as well - Thank goodness- I am so very excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i applied back in 1999 very late. i only got one interview (UTMb). but i wasn't accepted. anyway, this time i applied very early, improved my MCAt, beefed up my appl, and presto 5 interviews with acceptance to my #2 choice UTMB. i am elated. have fun at Tech!!!!

I still am interested in UTMB (I'm just a pre med), but does it not concern anyone that UTMB only has an 82% pass rate on the boards(vs. the national average of 93%)?

from what i remember on my interview date and according to the utmb website. the pass rate in 1998 (when imc started0 was around 90%. last year (2003), there pass rate was in the upper 90's. check it out!!!

Well that is a very reassuring thing! I've read 2 interview reports that referenced the school's low pass rate. Thanks for the information 🙂

it used to be lower but theyve really gotten it together. ive read that only 2 people failed last yr (i think that would translate to a 99% pass rate!) and that utmb average score was a 225 which is 10 pts above natl avg.
 
I got my official acceptance offer in the mail today. It was accompanied by a letter informing me that I got a scholarship, allowing me to pay in-state tuition minus $1000! I am so excited 😀 I can tell you one thing; any state willing to give me an opportunity like that can count on a lifetime of service from me as a doctor.

i got a scholarship too. did everyone get one from utmb?
 
yea i got two of them. I called them in regard to it.....first of all, it depends on what scholarship you got and secondly, no obviously not everyone gets it !! so congrats to everyone here. For example, one of the scholarships I got (I called them in regards to this) I know about 50 poeple or 1/4 of the class got it!!

ya i got some scholarships too but i dont know why.

Hi guys,

There sure are alot of SDNers this year, last year it was like me and a couple others. If you are looking for places to stay, I say stay close to campus. I live right down the streeet, and I can literally walk to class or go to the gym in like 5 minutes! Very useful if you wake up late!!! If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. Check out Quest too, the new student orientation you'll get info on later. Good way to meet all your classmates and have alot of fun, you'll see me there too mooching off the free food and drinks 🙂. Well the books are callin me again, and soon you'll hear it too heehee, but don't worry if you've made it this far you'll do fine. Congrats guys.
