OFFICIAL: Wayne State Wait List

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I read somewhere that Wayne doesn't want supplemental materials like LOIs, additional LORs, or other such updates. Is this true? Those of you who have gotten off the WL did you send anything extra?
I sent one letter, but if they say explicitly they dont want extra crap, i dont want to piss anyone off by bombarding them with stuff. Anyone know the official word on that?
thanks,
Spin😀

Spin,

My understanding is that they don't ask you specifically not to send in things, but that letters probably won't help you because the list is already ranked. My general feeling is that the letters can't hurt you, and you never know if they see that you're much more enthusiastic than the person ranked ahead of you, maybe they'll switch the order?

I'm no expert--just my take on the situation.

Good luck!

i was under the same impression, that sending things will not help at all...........that right now its all about people who decline.......i dont think they will look at your file unless the guy in front of you declines
i know some people who got off the waitlist last year without sending anything in...so i dont know if it does anything since it is ranked

good luck all

E-spin, check your private messages.

🙂

Also, good luck everyone, and I know people who got pulled off the alternate list as late as July last year, so I'm sure there's a lot more list movement to come.

Anybody know how many were originally on alternate list?

so this past wednesday was the deadline for kids who were accepted on 5/21 to let wayne know if they accepted the offer or not. when i went in to find out about my status on 5/21 (which was waitlisted) they said that they would likely be making offers by phone or email on fridays...and that it would likely happen in a few weeks. and, well...since the 3 week deadline has passed...and it's friday...and i can't help but think some kids are gonna hear from them today! (too bad it's friday the 13th)

so...any news anyone?

So Chopp you were right, they call on Fridays...I got the call this afternoon! My first acceptance..Whew.
Anyway, I am on the "regular" WL so they are done with the HP list I presume!!!

Good luck to all!!!

congrats e-spin!

I will be applying next year and wayne will probably be my top choice. I was wondering if you could post or PM me your stats and extracurrics... if you don't mind. I know that there is no cookie cut pattern to meet or anything... but I have asked everyone so far what there stats were... i just want to get a good idea of what to shoot for and a good idea of how well I am doing so far. Thanks!

hey guys, just wanted to let everybody know that the secretary at the admissions office told me that they've only accepted 15ppl off the waitlist... hopefully there'll be some more movement soon.

BUMP!

Sure Fun8stuff...
I am a nontrad...graduated in 99 with BS bio about a 3.2 BCMP. and 3.4 cummulative. My college ECs are pretty standard...student gov't, tutoring, science honoraries, pres of my sorority, normal volunteering ECs, and misc stuff. Did a non-degree prg at Temple...Bridge to Biomed PhD...had a stint in Public Health and just finished a 2yr MS micro program at Thomas Jefferson in Philly.... My grad school GPA is 4.0 (all science) and my MCAT is 27 (7V, 9P, 11B). That is me in a nutshell.

Oh so HSCCVCRU...the HP list at Wayne must be pretty freaking short if they said only 15 have been accepted thus far because I was on the regular list!!! There is still hope so hang in there!!

Good luck to all!!!

Spin😀 😀 😀

For anyone still interested, I'm not really sure there's any valid way to predict Wayne's waitlist movement. I was waitlisted in March, NO mention of "priority". Then when I called on May 21, I was not only accepted, but I was offered a full-tuition, four year scholarship. I was amazed, and happy about the scholarship, but I was really disappointed in the way Wayne handled my application. I mean, if I was deserving of a scholarship, why did they have me on the wait list to begin with? Was it a mistake? If they were holding my application pending a vote on the scholarship, why didn't they tell me so? I had counted the school out and was focusing on other avenues, and then I got this shocking surprise out of nowhere.

I rejected the offer, declined the scholarship, and am attending U Michigan instead. I just notified Wayne a little over a week ago, so best of luck to whomever gets my spot and scholarship.

I think they're drawing names out of a hat over there.

You can get an acceptance right down to days after orientation. A friend of mine now in second year had that happen to him. FYI

I believe that AA is an important to have, especially when it comes to medical school. Medical schools are one of the most important parts of our heathcare system. Every doctor begins their career in medical school. We should try to have a population of doctors that resembles the actual population. Healthcare would be weakened if 99% of physicians were White, Indian, or Asian.

Since AA began healthcare for minorities has clearly improved (not to mention race relations in general). For these reasons it is important to keep AA until URM's are getting the similar stats. I have no problem thinking that a URM with lesser scores than me may take a spot in a class that I would like to be in.

AA is there not to give favors to URMs but to help improve all of society.

any out of state waitlisters out there?

There's still hope...I got pulled off this week. I think she called Friday but I was out of town. Anyways..don't give up its still movin.
