I remember that my college mail room closed at like 4:30 or something, so I thought maybe some people in college might be getting letters early this morning when their mailrooms re-opened.

There was this one time when I knew I had an important letter that was a "flat" and couldn't fit in my mail slot, so I woke up at some ungodly hour to get it right when the mailroom opened.

Nah, you're not the only one...I think the anxiety is inevitable for anyone who clicks "submit" on the AMCAS. Kind of like watching the videotape in the Ring (without a crazy long-haired chippy trying to kill you...bonus!).

That kid is definitely creepy! I have to say, I was disappointed by the first one. All my friends were telling me how scary it was, and when I watched it, I didn't find it either frightening or interesting. One of my friends said that right after he finished watching it though, his phone rang, so he was thoroughly freaked out!

awww carlene, you've gotten some great acceptances, mcgill is a great school and i think you'd like montreal. i know it sucks and its hard to appreciate what you already have, i know i dont at all, but take time out to read all your acceptance letters and that should put a smile on your face.

Two other acceptances - rugger81 (or some number) and lulubean...both nearish to NYC. Congrats to everyone!

Katie, I'm sorry to hear about your WL letter - I'm sure you did have a great interview. Columbia's just one of those gamble schools where there are a LOT of qualified applicants. If it's a top choice for you, let Dean Frantz know!!!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. After a bunch of acceptances, I feel down in the dump with all these WLs, which are coincidentally, the same as yours: NYU, Columbia, and presumably, Duke.

Didn't you both get into Pritzker? That's really, really good. You can't get into every school. I have also been waitlisted by a few schools lately but have been ok with it. Of course, it would be nice to get into every school, but you can only choose one. Good luck with HMS if that is your top choice! I am sure you will hear more good news by the end of the month.

hey guys and gals, thanks for all the kind words of encouragement! And sweatybrain, it is a little freaky how much of a parallel post-interview experience we are on. I had a really good interview at columbia and am very disappointed. I went home from work to check my mail (30 minute bus ride each way) and promptly called my mom and started crying. then i got myself together and went back to work, where i started crying again when someone asked where i was. i don't want to sound ungrateful for the acceptances i have but i also can't help feeling like absolute **** right now. here's to hoping next week is better.....

I really have to second that opinion.

Each school has its own criteria for acceptance, and each member of the adcom has different criteria for recommendation as well. I think almost everyone on here has had some unexpected WL/Rejections and some unexpected interviews/acceptances.

Most of the people who post here and who have mdapplicants profiles look like amazing people who will be amazing doctors. So you should all have faith that things will get better, despite some setbacks along the way.

I got the alternate list in the mail today (I am in Boston) - Also, to crush the letter theory, I got the best kinds of letters from Dr. Frantz (strongly in mind, personal point of view, blah blah) and was not accepted.

Good luck to those still waiting. Columbia is fabulous.

I think it depends greatly on where you live. Plus, individual post offices vary greatly in the speed with which they get mail out. In Boston and Cambridge, certain local post offices are much better than others.

My letter hasn't reached my parents in MI (where my mail goes), but I also know of another med school letter (an acceptance) that was sent Monday from the East Coast and hasn't arrived yet. So I'm not assuming the worst (yet!).

Let's not give up hope. It's only been two days, right? 🙂

I live in North Carolina and did not receive a thank you for my thank you from Dean Frantz (just in case some people thought that was some sort of bad sign).

This certainly tempers the cold shoulder from some other schools that will remain nameless at this time . . .

All of us ruggers arent very bright. Why else would we play this sport?

Torn my ACL, PCL, MCL and ruptured my rotator cuff twice. Not to mention a broken lip, a couple nice scars from stitches...and a permamnent scar on my STOMACH from a bite mark. (Very interesting story....never ever get near a drunk female rugby player with raging hormones)

Got the good news from my parents in northern NJ this morning. Ridiculousness, to say the least. As for the previous letters from Frantz: one "very much in mind" (not handwritten) letter after my post-interview thank you note, and one very similar "very much in mind" (also not handwritten) letter after I sent in my LOI; nothing about "...on a more personal note..." or anything like that. I'm not a rugby player... yet. Good luck to everyone! I am drunk.
