Oh, Columbia...

Congrats to all those accepted! Yay!

So, being the impatient person that I am, I contacted Columbia to see whether or not all decisions were sent out, or if other decisions (e.g. rejections) would be sent out at a later date (for those of us who interviewed).

Now gather round, kiddies, 'cause here's what I learned:

The letters were mailed in rounds. Some letters were mailed on Tuesday, some on Wednesday, and some even this morning. All post-interview decisions have formally been rendered, and the timing of when one receives a letter is not necessarily indicative of post-interview status (i.e. acceptances weren't all mailed out on Tuesday and rejections on Thursday).

So, regardless of where we live (even if it's in NYC. COUGH.) we should all have our answers soon!

Thank you, drive through...

and you're still at fly? i thought you'd move to scrum or something.

i'm at inside center so i'll be looking for the ball. i got to get in some summer leagues.

Yup, whats great about being at Fly is that my most important assets are still OK - my brain and mouth.

Im still loud enough to bark out orders to the rest of you backs.

I played soem outside center at the end of this Fall Season and into the playoffs. Im also playing in some 7s tournaments now and we have the annual Spring Championships here in NY as well. Ive been practacing away from Flyhalf and at Outside Center...I got sick of assissting all the trys and not scoring myself, so Im stealing some glory while I still can. Who knows where I end up next year on the back line. If they need a 10, Im there...need a 13, Im there...so its all good.

Not sure if people wanted stats, but I can list mine if they are wanted:

University of Rochester C/O 2005
3.94 GPA, 3.97 Science
B.S. in Cell and Developmental Biology and a Minor in Art History
35R MCAT
Two Years of Research at the Trauma Dept at the Univ. of Miami Med School working at an Injury Research Center (filmed actual trauma surgeries and made interactive web-based assessmenets for med sstudents to use, the system is now being used at UM Med School)
4 year starter on the UR Rugby Team (2x NY Western Div 3 champs)
Bio TA
Volunteer at a Study Buddy Program for Underprivaleged Kids of Abused Families
Renaissance Scholar at UR (Full Tuition Scholarship)
and other random things

Thanks for giving us all the heads up, ajt, and for at least temporarily controlling the madness around here!!! You rock!!! 😉

Holy Crap I just got in! I'll be seeing you guys in the fall.......so happy 😀

so i went to my mailbox, and low and behold, in it was stuffed a huge white envelope. i let out a disbelieving squeal, grabbed it, and just as i was about to swallw my tongue in excitement, i realized it was actually an interview invite from Teach For America.

which is, you know, cool and all, but AAARRRRGHHHHHH. TFA, COULD YOU BE ANY MORE CRUEL IN YOUR TIMING?!?!!? 😱

I got my acceptance letter in the mail in the big white priority mail envelope!

I live in Texas, the envelope was postmarked 3/1/05, I never sent a thank you letter, and I don't play rugby!

Good luck everyone!

Okay, so does anyone know if Columbia's rejecting post-interview? Maybe this year because of AMCAS? Or did they always (pre-AMCAS)?

I thought Columbia (like Penn) was one of those different level/teirs waitlisting schools (1st, 2nd, 3rd) - and didn't reject post-interview.

Alas, perhaps I am mistakin'.

Sigh.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I think this question has not been answered (possibly the most useful in the whole thread) .

Does anybody know the answer? Is this a race for accepted or waitlisted? Or the wait will be over for some?

Why, thank you! And yeah, can someone answer? Please?

Sarah, where are you?! 🙂

I understand the concern some have over being waitlisted, but imagine how those of us feel who have yet to get in anywhere. I would give anything to have an acceptance somewhere.....come on Columbia.

They have to reject, how can they waitlist like 800 people?

Congrats to the '09s! Come visit us in April!

I have never *heard* of anyone being rejected from Columbia post-interview, but then again everyone here got IN, so... perhaps you can sample a bunch of mdapplicant profiles? Don't they have a category for "rejected post-interview"?

I got my acceptance letter today!

I am from Texas and I never received any of Frantz ridiculous letters.
Good luck to everyone!

the very first person from Amherst that comes up when you search for columbia interviews on mdapplicants.com was rejected post-interview last year.

assuming it was reported correctly by that person, they have rejected applicants at this stage.

Yeah, you're right. It's just that I don't always trust mdapplicants. But after having gone through about half of the list of those who interviewed at Columbia, looks like a couple were directly rejected post-interview.

So, looks like it's possible. Grreeeeaaaattt...

Thanks ms2209! and hang in there, you'll here pretty soon and I'm sure it will be good news.

I've been sneaking looks at this forum all day and it's killing me cuz I'm at work and I have yet another half hour before I can check my mail! ARGH! I would call home, except I'm too nervous...so basically everyone is giving me weird looks because I'm really jumpy and kind of out of it worrying about this letter. And yeah, I'm nearly burnt out having been on a rollercoaster thinking that I'll get in...but no, probably not...but maybe cuz other ppl with my stats have...but then again so many people interviewed so probably not. I don't think anybody has played me so badly as Columbia is right now. No boy could ever compete with this, haha.

Anyway, a HUGE CONGRATS to everyone who's been accepted. You have got be on top of the world right now. And to everyone who's waitlisted, if I end up in the same boat, we can dance for Frantz together. 😀

Hey DCham -

I just checked out your applicant profile. When were you interviewed and accepted at MSSM?

Congrats on Columbia too 🙂

Does anyone have any idea about what percentage of the "list of alternates" that end up getting invitations? I know some schools have stats from past years, such as first 1/3 or something like that. Received the alternate letter today in Boston, postmarked March 1.

I don't think there's been a steady trend here. Last year had the fewest people to come off the waitlist in recent memory, if not ever. But the year before was markedly different. I don't think the school publishes stats of any kind; I'll ask.

Anyone who got in, what is this fellowship page? What is an interschool fellowship? Do you think non U.S. citizens/residents could get in on all that good stuff? Is it just for your tuition or for general living expenses. Can you do with it whatever you want? I'm talking about the Ellis fellowship. Thanks

Good luck to those still waiting. Columbia is fabulous.
wow, and I thought that letter meant a sure thing. sorry, but the alternate list is still something

I live in North Carolina and did not receive a thank you for my thank you from Dean Frantz (just in case some people thought that was some sort of bad sign).

This certainly tempers the cold shoulder from some other schools that will remain nameless at this time . . .
yea same here in NY and I definitely did think not receiving that letter from Dean Frantz was the kiss of death.

I am in manhattan and still no word....I don't have a good feeing about this 🙁

May the force be with you.

And yet another day of agonizing wait...Good luck, everyone! :luck: :luck:

Yes, the force! Luck! Star allignment! Magic 8 Ball! All that jazz.

As someone LIVING IN NYC, I can't take another day of waiting (sorry to all you West Coast peeps!)...

Columbia, it's now or never. YOU HEAR ME!?

But, again, let us remember my earlier post - ALL decisions have been mailed out - some as recently as YESTERDAY (which, I was told, did not necessarily correlate with the admission decision) - so, y'all, we're gonna know one way or another very soon.

Can I be honest? I'm still holding out hope for a large envelope. But, it's my party so I reserve the right to cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to...should I receive other news.

LUCK!

LOL! I love the ultimatum 😉 ! As for "theme songs", I like your "cry if I want to", but my lyrics of the day have got to be:
"Maybe, maybe, maybe you'll find something that's enough to keep you
But if the bright lights (i.e., Columbia and NYC) don't receive you,
You should turn yourself around and come on home 🙁 "
