OK State c/o 2017 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I think those are for people that didn't meet requirements but I'm not totally for sure on that.

Ya, I received a rejection letter stating I had less then a C in a required course. while I did have aD in Chem 1, I re-took it and got an A. I seriously doubt they wont accept people who screwed up, once, and fixed it so this is probably some sort of mistake? I have decided to go to another school, but I figured I would mention it in case anyone else got a similar letter.

Good luck everyone!

If there wasn't a C- or less in anything, they would average retakes. But who knows what's up - if it's moot now, then might as well not worry about it. Otherwise, Anna is happy to clear things up if there is ever confusion. 🙂

They're making some big decisions about our futures today!!

Does this pertain to OOS too!?!

Yes it does. They were suppose to have their big meeting today to decide and then mail out everything on the 27th-28th. I was talking to Dr. Meinkoth (past admin) and she said that they will send out acceptences for just the top 2/3 of the class and the bottom 1/3 plus a few extras will be waitlisted until after spring grades come in so don't let the wait list discourage you.

So if you are in the bottom 1/3 they just put you on hold until your spring grades come in? I think I'm a little confused.

Yep. Even if you have already graduated they will look at the others who haven't and use spring grades to recalculate the ranks. I guess I should have said the bottom 1/3 of the spots left, too not just the bottom 1/3 of the applicants. They will also send out rejections at that time.

Did they say how many people will be "waitlisted". Plus, do they over accept? I'm still expecting the official thin letter of doom from them though.

Not sure on how many are waitlisted. I don't think they over-accept instate, but they probably do OOS. I know over 600 OOS applied this year and it was the most they have ever had.

According to my acceptance letter, they over-accepted the year I applied (OOS). And I still know of a few people who got in off the waitlist.

So, does anyone know much about the transfer program for OK state? I see that is an option on their website. I really loved OK state, I think I might try anything....

You mean transferring from another vet school? We get quite a few transfers from the Caribbean schools and a girl in my class came from one of the UK schools. I don't know how difficult it is to transfer in but I can ask one of the transfers from my class if you want.

yes please!

Hey, I've posted this in the waiting list thread but here is probably a better place for it. So, I sent in my FAFSA like 4 days ago or so and I got an email from OK State saying that they received my application and they need me to sign into an O-key thingy to provide further info and follow the procedures with the FAFSA application. Has anyone else gotten this before? The last email I got from the school was a reminder to get all my stuff into them so I'm kind of confused by this.

I got the same email but haven't heard anything about my application to OK. I think that it is just a standard email that everyone gets when they send their FASFA in.

Ah okay, that makes sense. I was just kind of confused and thought my FAFSA was approved before I even got my acceptance or something silly like that. At least I'm not the only one who got the email. That makes me feel a little better.

Does anyone know an exact date that OOS receive final decisions? Because I received the open house email and I would absolutely love to go but I don't have the money right now to travel there unless I knew for certain of my status. Thanks!

If you don't make it to open house, not a big deal. I think I heard a few days before the open house when I applied, and there was no way I could fly out on such short notice. I'd say that its more important to have time for house/apartment hunting when you are out here rather than rushing in a quick trip just for open house. If you do visit, admissions is always wiling to arrange tours if you let them know when you will be around, so open house isn't your only chance for that.

They should be sending out letters over the next few days but OK is supposed to get hit with a blizzard tonight so mail might get slowed down.

is there some foreshadowing if I didn't get the open house email? unless something happened when they originally dq'd me... maybe i should stop playing around on sdn and do my physics homework!

What do you mean they dq'd you?

I was disqualified, I wrote about it earlier in this thread. I didn't have physics completed, it was in progress for the spring semester and they disqualified me. I got it fixed however and Anna said I was put back into the applicant pool.

Oh I see...well I'm happy for you that you got to go back into the applicant pool 🙂

In case you're curious, here's what the e-mail said

Greetings from the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences! I would like to formally invite you to our annual OSU CVHS Open House set for Saturday, March 2nd from 9am-4pm. The public is welcome to come see what tomorrow’s veterinarians are learning, discover facilities and technologies available to treat pets and animals of all species, and to experience a variety of exhibits and live animal demonstrations. A silent and live auction will be hosted by the center’s Zoo, Exotic, and Wildlife Club. Proceeds will help fund medical and surgical care of local wildlife. Please note that no personal pets are allowed and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All activities are free and no appointments are necessary. I will also give admission seminars at 10am and 2:30pm in the McElroy Hall Auditorium that day and everyone who attends the Admissions seminar will receive a special, private tour given by our current veterinary student ambassadors . I have attached a flyer to this email for you to distribute as you see necessary. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions and I hope to see you at Open House!

Nothing special. Seems weird to send out such a last minute notice anyway. I would definitely like to visit and take a tour of the vet school if I'm accepted, but even if a letter came this week (which I doubt) making the drive up there on such short notice isn't likely.

I wonder if getting an open house invite is an indicator of acceptance? If decisions have already been made, then why would they invite us if they're not going to accept us? I hope we get letters before open house. I would have to ask people at work to cover for me yet again after telling them there were no more vet school visits, and would be really upset to find a rejection letter waiting for me when I got home.

I doubt that open house invitation is an indication of acceptance. I didn't get one the year I was accepted. Anyways, I wanted to give you guys the heads up that campus is closed tomorrow due to weather. I hope that doesn't delay them sending out letters.

I got the e-mail today. It sounded like a general e-mail though.

Yeah, didn't get an email either, not going to worry about it. Going to symposium in Florida anyway! 😀

Does anyone have a good idea of the chances of acceptance for OOS? I know for some schools it is 1 in 4 chance, etc. Just curious..

Looks like I'm going to Vet school on August 19th! So excited!!

Awww congratulations! Go get your celebration on!
I will! Off work for the next four days (work 4 days on 4 days off) so there will be much celebration!
Any one going to OSU now, what are you doing for insurance? My husband's is really expensive and I know AVMA's was discontinuing because of OBAMAcare and was just wondering about the choices.

I have insurance through my husband's work. OSU offers a student insurance so you might check that out. It is through main campus not the vet school. I don't know how good it is though.

So I applied to OSU then found out they didn't interview OOS, I assumed I would get rejected because I have nothing that makes me stand out from the pack. I found out I'm not so I am coming to the open house, but what is their equine program like especially there repro?

Were you accepted?! They actually have a pretty decent equine repro program, but it is at the vet med ranch so you won't get to see it at open house. Here is a link to the info on the ranch:

I've been waitlisted but thought I should see the school if I do get off it.
