Oregon State c/o 2023

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS Rejected :/ Congrats to everyone that got accepted and alternate seats!!

For those waitlisted:

Last year, they had approximately 110 OOS people on the waitlist. Tess told me they would complete a ranking after the 4/16/18 acceptance deadline if they had spots still available. They had 9 spots available for the waitlist and they made preliminary offers to the first people on their list on 4/19/18. I'm not sure if the rankings were released after that first round of offers as that's when I got off the list. The year before that, I don't believe they called anyone off (don't quote me on that though). It is pretty variable between years but you have a better shot with the increased class size from previous years. Good luck! I know how stressful it is so wanted to give you all a general timeline. I'm not on admissions so this may or may not be the same time frame this year.

It looks like that based on the c/o 2022 thread some people were offered admission as late as mid-late June

Yes, classes of 2021 and 2022 have larger class sizes and you are more likely to be called off the waitlist. not saying it's a fantastic chance, but there is more of a chance than before they increased the class.

Update for those of you also OOS waitlisted....looks like there's no getting around the incredibly long wait. I emailed Tess and she said they'll start ranking the alternates closer to April, and we should hear something by April 15th.

OOS rejected.
Best of luck to the alternates!
Congrats to those accepted!!

Interviews are tomorrow! Only mildly freaking out haha. Good luck to any fellow IS peeps who may be lurking on this thread like I’ve done in prior years 😀

Good luck! You'll be fine. Depending on what time your interview is, there may be some friendly dogs to relieve your stress! Are there any events on the schedule besides interviews?

Thank you! There weren’t any same day events listed in the schedule I got, but there was an open house yesterday. Having dogs there is a great idea!

Any thoughts on when we’ll hear back for IS?

Tess said by early February. The first years said they heard back 9 days after their interviews last year, so could potentially be sooner!

Decisions went out today! Waitlisted but hopeful. Does anyone know if it tends to move much for in state? 😳

Did anyone receive any kind of acceptance letter/packet in the mail? I did from my other schools but nothing from Oregon State so far...

Did you receive an acceptance email? I think they sent out an official letter a week or two after I was accepted. They didn't really provide more information until mid-May when they started giving us class schedules and other important info.

Do you know what spot you are on the waitlist? I know several of my IS classmates were accepted off the waitlist, but I would imagine this depends year to year and also would depend on your spot.

I’m OOS and I was accepted in December and didn’t receive an official letter in the mail :/

The letter I received was dated March 2. So it may come in the coming weeks.

Edit: The letter I received was to ask me to send in my transcripts, which I later found out there's no need (as they already had everything thru the VMCAS application). But the letter starts with "Congratulations on your admission ....." so it also confirms the acceptance.

I haven't accepted my OOS offer yet.
I just want to have a better idea of the program, tuition, cost of living, etc. I'll be visiting in March for the tours and I have gone through the website and stuff, but I'm kinda getting anxious and want to know more from current students.
Thank you for any help!

Feel free to PM me any questions! I'm OOS.

I'll send you an essay I accidentally wrote when someone asked me some questions about the school... I like to write way more than actually necessary, but feel free to ask me anything that the response doesn't cover.

Can you send it to me too? I’m accepted OOS and have the same question

Any suggestions for OOS students on which airport to fly into/hotels to stay at? I will also be visiting in March for tours and the "Open Day"

Most people fly into Portland, but Eugene is probably a bit closer if you can get a cheap flight going in there. Any of the hotels in the area should work just fine as any downtown are going to be ~2 miles from campus max. Stay away from the Rodeway inn though. That place is an absolute dump.

Amazing, thank you so much!

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook page for class of 2023? If I’m heavily leaning toward Oregon but haven’t accepted my seat formally, can I still join?

It doesn't look like there is one yet but you can email Tess since she is the one who makes it usually.

You've prob booked this already but PDX would be your best bet. You could get on a bus or rent a car to get to corvallis.

I think we were only allowed to join after accepting our seat.

yeah I booked my trip already, but thank you so much! I am flying into PDX, Eugene does not have many options haha

OOS waitlisted! Hoping I get an acceptance around April. Does anyone have experience with the OOS waitlist? I know online it says they accept about 30 but I also know that quite a few from this forum were accepted right away rather than being waitlisted which makes me nervous for myself.

I was accepted off the wait-list OOS in April last year and a number of my classmates were as well. I think they had like 7 OOS spots still open after the acceptance deadline so there's hope! I have heard that this is variable though so I wouldn't necessarily count on that many spots being open for sure. If you weren't accepted elsewhere, start working on improving your application immediately (you can set up a file review with Tess if you're waitlisted) and hopefully youll get some good news in April! If there are still spots available in April, Tess will likely tell you when they will be extending offers to waiisters.

Great, thanks! Based on what my other school said about me being waitlisted, it mainly had to do with my GRE scores not being the best and my shadowing hours being a bit low, around 300 hours but I have a ton of animal experience and other types of diverse experiences.

For those in the C/O of 2022, was there a deposit that needed to be payed promptly or mailed in to confirm your seat? Is the acceptance binding (if that makes sense)?

I don't remember paying a deposit...
How to confirm your seat should've been provided in the email you got

What do you mean by binding? It is not legally binding. but I dont think it is allowed to confirm at multiple schools. You can confirm and then remove yourself later if you are accepted off a waitlist or something

from my other pre-vetters at my school, many of them payed a deposit so I was just wondering for OSU.

I am on a couple waitlists for other schools and was considering taking if called off; just didn't know the details of accepting/committing. (1st time having to decide for vet schools 🙂 ). Thank you for the clarification
