Pacific University - 2008 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
congrats everybody!

i will be coming down there from Vancouver, Canada probably on friday night... still making travel arrangements!

The actual time that you are in front of the interviewer is somewhere around 15 minutes - but will certainly vary depending upon the flow of the interview. Mine was literally 15 minutes - and then I was done. I think E had a much better interview, which lasted longer. The length is irrelevant though, its the quality of your interview that should be your primary concern.

where is everybody staying?! we got a list of hotels...but are any of them within walking distance to the school? or do they provide free hotel shuttles 🙂

Hey Above or Eddie,

So will the interviews be open or closed file. I noticed that in the interview feedback section, last years cycle had some mixed open and closed. Will this depend on the interviewer's decision beforehand?

Hey Everybody!

Is anyone staying at the Holiday Inn Express for the November 10th interview? I used to live in Portland so I'm getting there on Tuesday. Just seeing if anyone will be in town early.

Also, is anyone already done with their pre-req's? I still have about 5 classes to complete. Just checking to see how everone elses progress was coming.

Wow... 5 pre-reqs remaining and you already got an interview!! That's awesome. Congrats!

Thanks! I'm a little worried about getting put on a waiting list though because I haven't finished my pre-req's yet. I have 2 BA's though so I'm hoping that will help them see that I can finish those classes with no problem.

Hi michelle_is_me,
I rented a car because I'm getting in earlier in the week and I want to be able to get around and visit with some of my friends.

Do you guys know if the interview will be conducted with 2 pharmacists or 1 pharmacist and a student?

I think it will be one Pharmacist and one faculty member.

I think it will be one Pharmacist and one faculty member.

Majority will be one faculty member and a volunteer pharmacist.
Some will get a P1/P2 student and a volunteer pharmacist. It should be closed file although my interviewer last year had some of my info in front of me.

Either way, interview feedback on SDN, practice, and dress sharp!

Hello boys and girls:

Just wondering who are the Pacific U hopefuls here on SDN, where you are in your application process etc etc.

I am currently debating if I want to start on the paper application or wait for the online application to become available. Any thoughts?
What?!?😕 I didn't even know they had an online application. Anyway, I submitted my application about a month ago..I was eager to make it to the second tier.:scared:

erm r u sure ur not talking bout U of Pacific in Cali versus Pacific U in Oregon? Pacific U doesn't have tier systems.....

Could u guys plz share ur stats with us?

I have been reading the thread on stat sharing and it made me feel kind of guilty. I certainly believe that stats aren't all there is to pharmacy admissions, but I'll make the post just to satisfy the inquiring mind (and my own conscience):

Cum GPA: 3.84
Science: 3.77
Last 45: 3.96
Pharm Experience: 50 hours of shadowing and CPhT (though I have never worked as a technician)

Hope someone finds that helpful!

Well I just got rejected! I received a letter in the mail today. To tell the truth, I know how competitive pharmacy school admissions are, but I didn't think I'd be rejected so soon. Pacific was my first choice, but I guess I am glad I know now and know what I need to work on.

Just in case anyone is curious... I have a 3.4 cum. gpa, 3.2 science, and 3.7 last 45 hours. I have been working in a pharmacy since the beginning of August and have a little experience with volunteering by tutoring math. I have many upper division biology courses, which I did well in too. They said I needed to work on completing more prereqs (I only need econ and speech, which I am taking now... I thought that was weird...), gaining more work experience, and doing more ec's. Those are all things that are easily changed with time, so that's good.

The bright side to this is that it sounds like they are weeding through people pretty quickly, so to anyone who has received an interview... congrats and I am rooting for you!

WOW. My stats are almost identical to yours.

I do have a BS in psychology. I am from the Seattle area, and submitted my application I believe in the second week of September (maybe third week).

Don't worry, with your great stats, I am sure you will get into somewhere. Good luck!

Wow! Now I'm really nervous about the interview!

I was talking about UOP in California. Did they already send out the rejection letters? So what happens if you didn't get the rejection or interview letters and you've made it to the second teir?😕 Does anybody know if the interview letters sent out were for the pre-pharm students of UOP or if it were for general pre-pharm applicants?:scared:

Hey PharmaPharma, just to clear up some confusion, Pacific University (PacificU) and University of the Pacific (UOP) are two unrelated schools. So asking a question here about UOP would be like asking a question about UOP in the UCSF thread.

Anyways to answer your question, from what I've been reading UOP has been mainly sending out application deferral notices rather than rejections to the first tiers. Also, from what others have been saying, it seems like they have not started to send interview invitations to the second teirs, so don't freak out yet!

Lastly, I believe that UOP Pre-Pharm students don't go through the application/interview process until later on in the school year (though, many of them are practically guaranteed a spot in the program - i.e. 140 applicants for 100 spots).

I'm renting a car for the November 10th interview date. Does anyone who is going have any idea where they are going to park or how they are going to get there? I heard parking at the school is limited so I was just trying to get an idea of what everyone else is doing. 🙂

HAHA!
I know. I found out a few minutes later after I've posted my question. 😀
I feel stupid, but u don't understand how glad I am! Hehe. Thanks for the reply though and good luck.

So for this incoming class they are going to cap off enrollment at 96 students, correct?

I was curious for those who've interviewed in previous years, about how many questions will they ask you during the interview session... 5, 10 questions??

Hello Caretpotpie:

it seems like they're looking for more well-rounded individuals? your gpa is way higher than mine...and I am also finishing up quite a few pre-reqs still.... but i do have almost 3 yrs of pharm experience + 3 yrs working in hospital + many other extracurricular stuff under my belt. If Pacific is the only school u wanna go to....get some experience ASAP for next yr's cycle.... but if u dont really mind the location..apply to some other schools NOW! it's still a good time in the application cycle.

Don't worry... persistance will pay off. One year is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.... good luck to you!!

Yes, I do think they want well rounded individuals. I was especially confused on why they said I didn't have enough prereqs (I only need econ and speech, and I am taking both now). I e-mailed them and asked, and they said that I have mamm physiology and they want human. I knew that, but I also thought they evaluated situations like that on a case by case basis. They ok'd my mamm physiology when I sent in my unofficial prereq worksheet. The e-mail said that since then, they changed their mind and didn't want mamm phys (even though they previously ok'd it). So, oh well... I'll have that all worked out next time around. Good luck everyone!

they ok-ed my mamalian physio too... BUT some other school won't allow it so i'm taking human physio allllll over again 👎thumbdown👎

but that really isn't fair if they ok-ed it then took back their agreement... that's why u gotta get everything in writing so they can't go back and change their mind!

I have the same question as well. For those who have interview on November 10th, could you guys message me if you want to go check out the school on Friday on the 9th? I know i have talked to couple of you; let me know when and where you guys want to meet up. Have a nice week!

I think I'll be using the MAX light rail; I don't want to be playing weekend traffic (if there happens to be any). 😀

im going to be staying at the Holiday Inn Express and taking either the MAX or a cab to the school on Saturday. BTW even though Holiday Inn has shuttle....they can't shuttle us to the actual interview day b/c their shuttle only runs M-F... wtf.. they told me that AFTER i book the hotel lol

Well...it is in writing on the unofficial prereq worksheet I got back from them. Lonnie said that since then, however, they have changed their minds. The annoying part is that I would be taking human phys right now if I had known!

Is anyone checking out the school on Friday, Nov. 9th? It'd be cool to see other SDNers. 😀 Msg me!

I decided to stay @ the Red Lion Hotel in Hillsboro and not at the Red Lion located next to PDX. For two reasons: #1. It is quite a distance from PDX to Hillsboro. #2. It might be quieter, meaning good night sleep... b/c it is away from the airport!

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn in Hillsboro. I would love to go check out the school on Friday, November 9th. Let's all set up a time and place to meet. 🙂

what time is everybody arriving at their hotel and what does everybody want to do? I wouldn't mind chcking out the school quickly to find the whereabouts..but we're gonna get a campus tour the next so don't want to spoil the fun for the nxt day 😉

i feel like dropping my luggage off at the hotel, MAX train it back to downtown and do some sight-seeing haha..... as long as it doesn't rain tho :scared:

I AM FROM VANCOUVER AND I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN ANYMORE!!!!!

That's a good point. I like your idea of going downtown. Maybe we can all grab something to eat. Kinda like the last meal. hahaha:laugh:

lol well, i found and uploaded the Portland travel magazine so maybe we can go thru it and see what interests everybody.

http://www.travelportland.com/visitors/images/travel_portland_mag.pdf

also, myself and Bab3 are staying at the Holiday Inn Express and we'll b calling a cab to the school on sat... it wouldn't be more expensive than the MAX if we split it...anybody else interested?

Is anyone taking their luggage with them to the interview? BTW we should all meet up on friday&Saturday for dinner or something... I think Lonnie listed a lot of restaurants around the school.
